Map
In Conil with a coastline of 16 km, we find virgin beaches, coves, cliffs and coastal pine forests. The climate is Mediterranean with mild temperatures throughout the year and absence of extreme values in summer and winter. It has an average temperature of 17º C, about 3,200 hours of sunshine and 700 mm of annual rainfall.
If you want to know more about the town and its people, I invite you to spend the afternoon at the daily auction of vegetables at the Nuestra Señora de las Virtudes Agricultural Cooperative that supplies most of the supermarkets and fruit shops in the region , Conil's tomatoes are famous !!!
There is also a daily auction at the fish market in Puerto de Conil where you can see the arrival of the boats and their catches, take advantage and learn to distinguish a sea bream, an urta, a borriquete or a snapper.
In Cádiz street you can cover and taste the typical gastronomy of the area, try to enter the bar “El Sopa” or “Juan María” and ask for the dish that they have taken this year to the “tuna route of almadraba”. If you have time try the tuna carpacho in "Francisco de la Fontanilla" or the tuna tartare in "La Ola". Almadraba tuna, of course. If you prefer meat, without a doubt the "Retinto" T-bone steak (autochthonous vaccine breed) in Blanco and Verde and if you are hungry ask for some garlic choquitos.
In the evening enjoy on foot having a drink in the street "El Peñón" or surroundings without having to leave the old town, try "La Tertulia".
If you want to see an equestrian, flamenco or other show, at the Conil Tourist Office you will be informed of the events that are on the requested date and the cultural agenda of the month.
Environment and Activities in Conil
Conil de la Frontera is located on the coast of the Janda, just 40km from Cádiz, the capital. From here and less than 1 hour by car you can visit the Natural Parks of the province: Sierra de Grazalema, P. N. Alcornocales, P. N. del Estrecho, P. N. marshes and Breña del Barbate, P. N. Bay of Cádiz and P. Doñana National.
Sea lovers can go kayaking all along the coast, surfing in the Palmar, Kite surfing at the mouth of the Salado and Castilnovo, snorkeling in the Cala del Aceite, diving in the Fuente del Gallo and Cala del Puntalejos.
If you like angling, you will enjoy trying to capture the show mackerel, horse mackerel, and robalos, or hopefully catch a gilthead.
If you opt for the bicycle you can do one of the “52 bicycle routes through the province of Cádiz” reflected in the guide published by the Provincial Council.
For those who practice trekking, I encourage you to “jump the Cabrero” in Fr. Sierra de Cádiz, “ascent to Risco Blanco” (request prior authorization) in the Alcornocales National Park, “Torre de Meca y del Tajo” in the La Breña and Marismas del Barbate National Park or a walk taking advantage of the low tide from the beach of Los Bateles to the Trafalgar Lighthouse, passing by Palmar Beach (22km round trip).
If you are an ornithologist, I recommend a visit to Fr. Bay of Cádiz to contemplate the flamingos or observation towers of the metropolitan P. Los Toruños and Pinar de la Algaida or the passage of migratory birds throughout the Strait.
If you prefer horse riding you can ride a horse in one of Conil's riding schools, watch the show of how Andalusian horses dance in Jerez (take advantage of a visit to a winery) or attend the Equestrian circuit of the Sun in Vejer.
If you like Archeology and History, be sure to visit Cádiz and the Museum of Las Cortes, the Archaeological Museum, Gadir and the Tavira Tower among others or the archaeological site of Baelo Claudia in the wonderful beach of Bologna.
