Wonderful place to stay
Roman Villa Silj is an outstanding and dazzling place to spend any stay in Rome. We took our eighth-grade students for an educational trip and it proved the perfect location because of its privacy but also connectedness to the city, however I would absolutely return for a private vacation with friends or family. The staff looked after our needs and accommodated some of our weird ones, and also brought us in with warm hospitality and passion for the history and beauty of the location. Highly, highly recommended.

Family Get Away
Excellant Location. Close to Rome. Didnt need to hire a car. Bus stops right outside the gate. We went with 1 teenager, 1 toddler, 1 baby and 7 adults plenty of room in villa for all us. The pool area is great you could spend your whole holiday just lazing at the side of it. Plenty of cool places in and around the gardens. Our bedroom opened out onto the terrace where we had breakfast every morning. The owner provided us with a meal and it was out of this world it was even better than any 5 star restaurant. They were very helpful. A pleasure to do business with. The villa was clean and well maintained and there was plenty of information of things to do in and around the villa. I would recomend going to the Colosseum and St Peter's Square. Be careful when visting The Spanish Steps as it is full of pick pockets, but dont let this ruin your holiday. Make sure you bring sensible shoes with you. The stalls around all the street are always chaper than the shops and alway haggle.

Why they chose this property

This property was part of a huge estate - 14,000 hectares purchased by Bernard's grandfather in 1885. including some extraordinary archaeologiical remains: the villa of Augustus Caesar, the triumphal arch of Emperor Constantine. The estate is smaller now and many of these features are now concentrated here at Villa Anson Silj, which in the early 20th century became a meeting place for eminent artists. The present owner, Bernard, as a storyteller and artist has continued the tradition, with contemporary artists.

What makes this property unique

This property, offers the combination of the city and country living: a fairy tale garden suited for reunions, retreats, meetings, weddings and family groups. A project in search of lost time (quality time) to encourage conversation, listening and “doing nothing” profitably: an innovative mix of stories, art, combined playfully as a riddle and quest as evinced in the book written for this garden "The Garden of Lemniscati" a book cultivated like a garden, a garden written like a book" (stoires illustrated in the garden include Fall of the House of Hypnos (prehistory and myth), Etruscan Song of Circular Time (legend and history), the Egg of Imperial Succession, the burial of Tacitus (history), The Donation of Constantine (history), Roland, Charlemagne, 1001 Nights, the Great Lost Treasure of Jerusalem and Treasure Island, Three Languages Grimm (fairy tale), DA DA-NEO-DA-DA (contemporary art).
