Newman House was a treat to stay at. It had everything we needed plus more. The location was perfect for the boat trips and restaurants. Would love to stay there again.
Location and views are as spectacular as described. The route from the harbour is up a steep hill and quite a rough road. A person who had difficulty walking would need a taxi. The house has character and retains the 'lived in' imprint of the host's ancestors. The conditions there were quite adequate for our needs and any issues (eg tin opener did not work) were resolved quickly. We were an intergenerational group of 8, which create a bit of pressure on bathroom space, but we expected that.We had a lovely time. Thank you to host Cynthia and housekeeper Michael.
Stunning location lovely big old house, would benefit from some new beds and bedding, but don’t be put off, probably one of the best spots on the island, we will go again.
Beautiful family holiday home which is spacious, warm and welcoming(thank you Cynthia for being an amazing VRBO host). It was so well equipped plenty of everything needed in the kitchen, lovely cotton sheets, incredible views, sunny garden seating, sunset window views, spotlessly clean(thank you Michael and Kate), eclectic furnishings and paintings connected to the family.Swimming with seals on St Martin was our activity highlight. We enjoyed every day.
A lovely old house with a "lived-in" feel. Very well placed for its views and convenient for visits to Hugh Town. Accommodated our party of eight well, including three young children, who loved it.
Newman House is a wonderful 300-year-old English country house that is perfect for a holiday on the Isles of Scilly. We felt very comfortable in the spacious house, which had more than enough room for the six of us.Everything worked great from the booking and information handover (thanks Cynthia) to the check-in and check-out (thanks Michael). We will definitely come back again, and not just because of the fantastic view.
A perfect holiday with friends The position could not be better and the views from the house are spectacular. We enjoyed the garden in the evenings for a BBQ with meats and fish from the butchers in town. This was our second trip to Newman House and we will most certainly returnAbsolutely amazing in all ways
Newmans is fabulous. V unique and quirky. perhaps not for everyone because part of its charm is that it does not conform to a boring typical holiday let but who wants boring? this place is magic. We love love love it.
Arrived and found caretaker who gave us all info on the property and was available anytime if required.
All of us just loved it for its style and character, and would be happy to return again
Its a large house that still feels cosy, with lots of room for the whole family. The location is stunning, you can hear and see the sea and watch the boats come in to the quay. Was everything we wanted, the Everhot oven was a steep learning curve though!
The house is beautiful, and historical. Confortable, well equipped for cooking, games, and overall lovely family time. Well located too, to go and explore the isles. All communication is smooth, and nice. Thanks for it all! Highly recommended house!
A really special house in an amazing location. Wonderful sea views and a great location for exploring the islands as so close to the quay. The house is kitted out really well with everything you might need, the pictures are a bit outdated as they don’t do it justice, the house looks to have been given an update recently with new furniture and carpets. It really is a brilliant place, would highly recommend and Cynthia is a very responsive host. Thanks for having us!
Stunning location. We all loved the house - like stepping back in time, full of interesting bits and bobs. Particularly liked sitting at the windows with unbeatable views, playing croquet, bbqs in the garden, and the record player and old records! Might not suit everyone with only one loo on top floor, plus one in the en suite.
We stayed at Newman house with an extended family group and it was magical. The location is unique with a garden that includes an ideal spot for wave watching. There is so much space in the property with books and games galore. Our favourite room was the 1st floor lounge and its 4 window seats all providing a different view. The walk from Hugh Town is short but steep so some may struggke. What awyou
This house has hardly changed in the 40 years that I have been to stay in this very special family home.Everything is perfect. The only disappointment was having to pay 50 extra for an insufficient travel cot and ok high chair. I’m sure there used to be a good cot in the house when my children were babes.

Thank you for your comments and I'm sorry to hear that the travel cot and high chair were not up to standard and also at the cost! As you know, they were hired in from the local company that organises the linen. We will look at buying our own for the future.
