Stunning Village House with Plunge Pool, Air Conditioning & Walled Garden
Montejaque is one of the prettiest pueblos blacos in Andalucia with a population of approximately 1000.Recently it has attracted substantial financial support from Malaga resulting in the development of well run tourist office , an impressive walkway over a nearby high dam and many fiestas with a main one in May and August ending with a Battle of the Bridge celebration in October. The property benefits from a large fully fitted kitchen with a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave , oven/hob, toaster and coffee machines. Full sets of crockery and cutlery are provided as well as all the usual kitchen staples that you may need to prepare meals. The house is managed by our local agent who is available for assistance 24/7 and it is professionally cleaned after each guest.
The spacious and airy main room is fitted with a cosy wood burning stove for the winter months. Large comfortable sofas, a flat screen TV and with a small sound system are also provided. There is a good selection of fiction and books about the local area and walking trails. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, we subscribe to the premium service and the connection speed is generally excellent.
There are three good size bedrooms. The master bedroom is en-suite with shower ,toilet, bidet and hand basin featuring two balconies with spectacular views onto the natural park below. There is a king size bed with double wardrobes and a chest of drawers. The amazing view of the valley from here together with the fragrance of jasmine below, makes for a great start to the day. The second bedroom has two single beds, a double wardrobe with a chest of drawers and its own Juliet balcony with French doors. The third bedroom has one single bed, chest of drawers and bedside cupboard. The main bathroom for these two bedrooms is fitted with a bath / shower, washbasin and toilet.
The property benefits from a large terrace and a secluded garden overlooking a picturesque almond grove and is a great place to enjoy breakfast in the morning. In the evening there are breathtaking views of the sun setting onto the mountains of Sierra Grazemala Natural park. The private walled garden can be directly accessed from the kitchen or the main room and is ideal for some alfresco dining. A barbecue is provided and we can give you details of where you can buy good quality locally sourced meat, fish and other products. The garden is well stocked with apricot, fig and an olive tree as well as herbs including mint, rosemary, bay, and thyme. Guests are very welcome to pick the fruit and herbs to use in their cooking. In the village there is a recently built public swimming pool and also a gym and an outdoor paddle/ tennis court. There are many idyllic walks from our house where it is possible to see eagles and vultures coasting in the mountains around. Last year we added a plunge pool and our guests have mentioned how much they like it , for cooling down or exercising in the pool. Surrounded by spectacular mountains on all sides, Montejaque is a charming village with excellent local amenities including a bakery, several small mini stores and some excellent bars and restaurants .On booking we can send you a short guide setting out all our favourite places to shop, eat and drink. The historic town of Ronda(15 minutes away)is perched on a plateau above spectacular cliffs and the dramatic gorge splitting the town in two is spanned by the famous 18th century bridge, featured in the Hemingway book. Montejaque is ideally placed for visits to Seville,Cordoba and Granada. The airports of Seville,Malaga and Jerez are almost all equidistant from Montejaque.(about one and a half hours). There are regular coaches coming up to Ronda from Malaga and it is possible to travel by train to our nearby station, Benaojan-Montejaque. This railway continues from our sister village Benoajan down to Gibraltar and Algeciras with onward boat access to N. Africa. There are fantastic walks around the village and a daily bus service to nearby Ronda. However to get the very best out of the area ,we do recommend hiring a car. Parking in the village is straightforward and we usually use a spot located a couple of minutes from the house.

We had a wonderful stay at Lynda’s beautiful house in Montejaque. The house was very comfortable and as described. The plunge pool and shaded terrace were very welcome on hot days. The village itself is charming with plenty of restaurants, and an open air pool.We were lucky enough to stay during the annual music festival.
Lovely village house in great location with fabulous views of the spectacular scenery which surrounds the very picturesque village of Montejaque. It really is a wonderful spot. Great communication with both the house owners and the local property manager.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed our wonderful setting and views from the house and our manager was helpful. Please do come and visit us again .
Lovely house in a dramatic setting. The house is very well equipped and has the most amazing views of the mountains. We loved watching the vultures circling in the distance. There are lots of places to sit inside and outside including a shaded patio area and the plunge pool was very welcome in the summer heat. Montejaque itself has a lovely vibe and bars/restaurants/ grocery stores which made it a perfect place to stay. All in a very dramatic setting amongst the mountains. Lynda gave us lots of recommendations before we left and Isabel was on site to help us with any queries. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend.
Thank you very much for those three weeks of dream.
The house is so charming and comfortable.
The pool is a real pleasure at the end of the day, espacially when you back from a city trip.
The village is so nice and well situed to discover most of Andalucia.
Isabel was very kind and helpful, and gives us many information.
You can go without hesitation.
It was the best holidays in family we've ever been on.

Lovely Spanish home in the mountains
My family of four adults stayed a week in Michael's house and we wished we'd had a few more days! It was fantastic weather, the village was buzzing with a music festival for the first few days of our stay. The mountains and the walking suited us all. The added bonus was the pool at the end of the street, always quiet and even though the water was very cold, it was great to cool off after a hot trek through the countryside.
The house was well equipped and the courtyard garden was cool and relaxing.
We found everyone friendly and the food at La Casitas was great.
Thank you Michael.

So glad you enjoyed yourselves in the village.
Hope it was good training for your Snowdon challenge.

The holiday was very much a last minute decision on my part as I'd just returned from business in India. Not being used to Vrbo I found the process of finding properties in the areas we favored very easy. The website was relatively easy to navigate and the booking/payment process reasonably easy as well.
The description of the property was concise, descriptive and didn't overly embellish the features. Upon arrival we were greeted by Jean Mae (owners agent) on the edge of the village. And after parking the car we made our to the property. We immediately felt at home and settled in. The views from the property are quite stunning and it is not overlooked by other properties.
Montejaque is beautiful little village in a very spectacular location. It has a good selection of bars for tapas, and restaurants if you want a meal. There are shops for food and a bakery for fresh bread and cakes.
There is plenty of surrounding countryside to explore and walk in.
We will certainly be returning it has been PERFECT!!

We are so pleased to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay in our house. Unfortunately your visit coincided with the main event of the Summer, the 3-day August Fair and Festival . As a result it attracted lots of people locally and further afield, making parking difficult during that weekend. I can appreciate with your young family that it entailed a lot of walking with them. We hope that you will return another time.
The beatifully furnished house is situated in the little quiet, charming and very authentic village Montejaque. From the windows and roof terrasse there is a fantasic view of the beatiful landscape. Most meals were enjoyed in the charming yard with green plants, flowers and shade from the sun in the hot hours. Other meals was taken in the small local restaurants and bars. Sunbathing could be done in privacy on the rooftop. We enjoyed however to go to the public pool a few minutes away. For a few euros we would have access to a super swimmingpool , sunbeds, umbrellas and surprisingly good tapas and drinks served by a very friendly staff. The nights were hot in july, but the aircondition ensured our good nightsleep. We made interesting excursions to Alhambra, Granada, Sevilla and Ronda as well as a few shorter hikes and visit to the very interesing Cueva Pilate. If you are looking for touristshops, nightclubs, bars with action find somewhere else. If you are looking for a sense of the real Andalucia go here!
This is our 2nd stay at Lynda & Michaels home, and certainly won't be our last. The home is well-appointed, comfortable, and has everything you need for a several-week stay. It's close to Ronda, and is a perfect base to explore the Grazalema Park area with a multitude of hikes and some world-class cycling.

Lovely house in a charming village
We enjoyed our 1 month stay in this lovely house. Located on a steep street the property is within walking distance to a nearby restaurant and a few bars. There are small mini-markets for essentials, but no designated parking near the house. The kitchen is well equipped, the WiFi is reasonably fast and reliable, and we enjoyed watching BBC on the TV. The two patios offered us great views and we used them often. The weather the first week was cold and damp, and the home’s interior reflected that, but with the wood burning stove and wall heaters we were able to make the living space reasonably comfortable. When the weather turned warmer, the inside became more pleasant. The bed was to our liking. Montejaque was a great location for exploring Andalucia and the Grazelema National Park. The property is exactly as described and depicted in the photos, and we would definitely stay here again if we return to this area.

Overall a very nice property
We enjoyed our stay overall in this pretty Spanish cottage. The property was equipped with everything we needed. We had good bars and restaurants within walking distance. The location suited us for nearby walking. We found the electricity kept ‘tripping’ but this may have been due to a storm during our stay. There was also an existing leak under the kitchen sink and around the dishwasher which we reported to the agents.
Our reception on arriving at the property was disappointing. We had stayed in several properties in the area prior to our stay in Grazalema and had been very impressed by the way we were shown round properties and how things were explained. This was not the case here...I felt that we had inconvenienced the agent; she told us rather brusquely that we were 15minutes early and would have to wait. Her colleague then appeared shortly after this and let us in but did not seem to be able to answer questions about the equipment in the house. This did not affect our stay overall however and when we asked for some towels these were quickly provided.
The beds in 2 of the rooms were heavy duty camping type beds with extremely uncomfortable mattresses.

We are so pleased that overall, you enjoyed your stay in our house. It was most unfortunate that your holiday coincided, with what has been recorded, as the heaviest period of rain for the past fifty years! As a result, the electricity supply to the whole area was adversely affected, which is why the power kept tripping.
The leak, that you mention from the dishwasher, was supposed to have been rectified before your visit, so it was a surprise to us as it had been repaired. We will take this up with our managing agent ........... as will the standard of welcome by her, so very unusual.
None of our guests have mentioned the mattresses being uncomfortable, but this seems a good time , following your comments, to replace them.
We would love to welcome you again if you choose to stay in Montejaque.

Charming and comfortable house. Pretty village, splendid landscape setting.
Loved the house and the seclusion it offered, even in the village location. Wonderful view of the limestone hills from the roof terrace. Loads of wildlife which was one of the principal reasons for coming to Andalucia at this time of year, and we were near several good walks in the Grazelema national park. We could not have been better looked after by Isabel, who responded promptly to our calls for advice. We commend her willingness to greet our arrival so late in the night after our two hour flight delay. The only slight misgiving was that some of the villagers seemed quite wary of us, even though we tried to be friendly. But perhaps that was more to do with our bungling of the language than anything else.

Lovely house but let down by 3rd bedroom
Very well appointed with two external eating areas. 3rd bedroom was disappointing and not usuable during our stay. Having said that we would return - the location is great and the local agent was very helpful.

We are so sorry that you did not have proper access to the third bedroom.
Perhaps if you had made it clearer that you required use of it beforehand, then our agent could have had the beds prepared and the room aired.

Scenic Serenity
The village of Montejaque is a postcard, tumbling into the palm of the dramatic karst peaks which surround it. The place feels magically remote yet the house and the village provide every comfort and are within easy striking distance of major sites. During our five night stay we enjoyed separate day trips by car to Seville and to the Mediterranean coast near Marbella. Rhonda is less than half an hour. Michael and Lynda were always available by email in the months leading up to our visit as was the house manager, Isabel, during our stay. The dining in town was exceptional, particularly La Casita, just a few doors from Michael and Lynda's beautiful house. We highly recommend the Village House and hope to return soon.

Fantastic mountain view
We had an excellent week long holiday in Montejaque. The house exceeded our expectations, it was immaculately clean, well equipped and very spacious. The Master bedroom has fantastic panoramic views to the mountains through the French doors.
The Italian/International fusion restaurant "La Casita" is highly recommended (less than 2 minutes away) and booking advised. A few of the other local Bar/restaurants are also worth a visit, good home made local produce and entertainingly welcoming.
This is a perfect base to explore the mountains and numerous deserted walking/cycling trails in the northern Andalusia area. Nearby, Ronda gets very "touristy" however, it's worth a half day visit.

About the host
Hosted by Lynda Turner
Based in England in glorious rural Suffolk, Lynda is a retired early years teacher and with Michael ran their own furniture restoring business.
We first visited Andalucia in 2004 and fell in love with the beautiful scenery and the Spanish way of living. We were drawn to the vibrant community feel of Montejaque, the amazing opportunities for walking close by and the village's proximity to the beautiful towns of Ronda and Seville.
In 2005 we bought this traditional Spanish village house and worked closely with reputable local craftsmen to transform it to its present state.
We spend several months of the year in Montejaque and the remainder in our home in rural Suffolk or wherever in the world our three children happen to be at the time.
We love to travel and meet new people and in recent years have visited Sri Lanka, China and India. If you have any questions about the area then please do not hesitate to give us a call. We know the village well and if we don't know the answer immediately we will certainly do our best to find out!
