We highly recommend Ron and Dotty's rental cabin. The view of the mountains and lake meant we didn't have to go anywhere for a beautiful view. The cabin provides everything you could need and perfect for two people. We will definitely be back.
Ron was the perfect host and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. His cabin was a truly magical place with amazing views. Our dogs really enjoyed property as well.
This was exactly as advertised- a quiet cabin in a lovely setting. It was perfect for relaxing but still keeping connected thanks to the great wi-fi. The location was centrally located for hiking and visiting a smattering of New England towns.
This was our second time in this cabin. Comfy and with everything you need. The view from the deck is amazing with sunsets to die for. The host,Ron, is attentive ,gracious and very welcoming. The Mount Holly area is lovely.
This is as close to a tree house as I will ever stay in and it exceeded my expectations. What I did not expect were the brilliant sunsets! There was quiet for reading and suggestions for walks and hikes in a welcome notebook. This was a last minute booking and my questions were quickly answered so I had a better idea what to bring. There's a full supermarket a few miles away where you can buy what you need to prepare meals or there are a variety of restaurants. The hosts home is on the property so for a very senior citizen that was good news and I was able to relax and enjoy Vermont I do hope to return next year.
We gifted my parents a few night stay at Ron's property. They have been there a couple of times before and absolutely love this little home away from home. Ron is amazingly communicative, keeps the house clean, and offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. The property is stunning and we'd highly recommend this rental!
Literally the BEST place I've ever stayed in (IN THE WORLD!)
If you're looking for a scenic place in which to say, this is DEFINITELY your place! Ron was an absolutely AMAZING host who not only made check-in amazingly easy, but the accommodations were phenomenal. He also sent us a VERY comprehensive list of activities to do around the area. We will most definitely be returning to stay there! Thank you Ron and Dottie for making this such a special stay!
This is our second time staying with Ron and will not be our last. The cabin is a perfect retreat away from life to relax and reset! Simply love it! And Ron and Dottie are delightful!
My husband, our dog, and I loved our stay with Ron and Dottie. The listing is just like the pictures however the views are better in person than any picture could capture. Ron and Dottie were lovely to chat with and we look forward to staying again for leaf peeping! Did not leave without rebooking! Totally recommend if looking for off the beaten path and peaceful!
Rustic, cute cabin in the woods. Excellent view of Vermont Green Mountains and rural countryside. 17 minutes from Ludlow! Owner is very responsive to questions and provided information about the area! There are steps going up a hill as well as as the ones pictured in the picture of the cabin.

IDEAL Personal Getaway - SO relaxing
Ron & Dottie's cabin is a fabulous personal retreat space. Comfortable, beautifully furnished, and in a setting that offers inspiring views and a peaceful environment in every direction.
I got to experience almost every kind of weather (except snow) during my week there and the cabin was always cozy.
My dog and I also greatly enjoyed all the wonderful outdoor space to ramble through on the property. We never saw "the moose" but we saw lots of signs!
One small detail, that wasn't really an issue for me: if access to Verizon cell service or wireless internet is important for you to have inside the cabin, you may be a bit frustrated. I could only get the wireless reliably from the corner of the deck. You can get Verizon cell service reliably out in front of the Belmont store (~1 mile away)
However you will probably find, as I did, that the appeal of electronic connectedness pales in comparison to the charms of this lovely cabin in a gorgeous setting.

Andrea, thanks for the wonderful comment....and we've decided that we need to upgrade our wireless connection. I think the new tree growth is now blocking the signal !!! For your next visit we'll have full power :)
Best,
Ron

Charming, well-equipped cabin in a scenic and peaceful corner of Vermont
My husband and I stayed for six days in mid-August in Ron's and Dottie's idyllic cabin on a hill. We enjoyed it very much. The cabin, while simple, is provided with everything one needs, in abundance. It was spotlessly clean and everything was in excellent condition. Facing west, allowing for beautiful afternoons and sunsets, the cabin has many windows, all with screens and shades, so it can be as light and breezy as one wishes inside. Outside there is a huge deck with Adirondack chairs and a picnic table. This was our favorite part... the sunsets were staggering, but we even enjoyed a summer storm. The area is lovely, with fields and woods, near the small and friendly village of Belmont (or Mechanicsville until it was renamed in the early 20th century); and the cabin is set well back from a little-traveled road. It is deliciously quiet. A thick folder put together by Ron and Dottie has tons of information on the area, including menus and maps, and suggestions of pertinent websites to follow up on. Ron was extremely friendly and helpful. He was on call for any questions, easy to contact, and very nice!, going out of his way, for example, to help us find a hike on our last day, and answering all questions (including a couple of unnecessary ones due to not having read the folder) with cheerful patience. He and Dottie gave us delicious large summer squash from their garden. All in all we felt most welcome in a relaxed atmosphere, while at the same time enjoying total privacy. We hope to return. Highly recommended!
We had such a great time here. It’s so quiet and gorgeous but close enough to every outing you could imagine to encapsulate vermont. It’s of course perfect for just staying in a doing a puzzle or playing games too :) the hosts were super nice as well! 10/10 recommend!
We stayed in Belmont for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The cabin was a nice size for two people. We had our two small dogs with us and they loved walking in the fields. The views of Salt Lake and the Green Mountains was marvelous. The cabin is at the top of the hill so there are some steps provided to help with that climb. Lovely stay.
Love this beautiful cottage amazing veiw the owner Ron was very helpfull and attentive to any needs
Love this place and the location of the property.Vermont was amazing can’t wait to go back and I will definitely be booking with Ron again I had a great time I rate everything 5 stars.
It was pleasure meeting Ron and Dottie. They’re wonderful couple. To be honest, our experience was so vibrant and delightful that we didn’t even wanna leave the beautiful and serene atmosphere around the cabin and even around the nearby towns. Especially, if like stargazing, the night sky will make you excited and exuberant. Thank you so much for wonderful experience, Ron and Dottie.
We enjoyed the cabin, the peace and quiet, the view and the sunsets were
Excellent. Just a few suggestions;
The bed was uncomfortable for us,
could use a new one, and a mention
of the stairs to the cabin for those of us with bad knees.

About the host
Hosted by Ron Unterman
My wife and I are retired and live full time in Belmont. This guest cabin sits on a knoll above our house. Come visit us in our little corner of paradise :)
Why they chose this property
Ron's family began coming to Belmont for summers in 1956 and his parents moved here full-time from New York City in 1970. As a teenager Ron worked on a local farm and the family came up to Belmont for every vacation, all year 'round. Ron and Dottie moved here full-time in 2001 and enjoy all of Vermont's seasons -- You will too :)
What makes this property unique
We are in the heart of the Green Mountains between Killington and Stratton/Bromley, and minutes to Okemo. We have beautiful (spectacular!!) views off to the west and northwest (great sunsets). Our cabin sits on a knoll at 2100 feet above sea level and overlooks a lake with a 75 mile view across the mountains of Vermont and into New York State (we see the highest mountain in NY). We are one mile from Star Lake which has a beach and boat access. The cabin is very private being surrounded by 100 acres of our land, and hundreds more acres of friends, family and the State of Vermont. We have our own trail network for hiking, snowshoeing and xc skiing, and there's lots of other hiking all around the town and local area. On our land across the road from the cottage there are four beaver ponds that string along a brook that runs into Star Lake.
..... and we have a moose that visits every now and then [EMAIL us for this picture and many others].
Although private, this cabin is in the heart of the Vermont ski and tourist area so there are lots of restaurants, shops, and activities within 5 to 10 miles (Mt. Holly, Ludlow, Weston, etc.)
