Skiddaw Lodge is situated on the border of the small Burnside Park cabin site, which meant there are lovely views from the terrace, living room and kitchen of Skiddaw itself and the adjacent sheep field. The cabins are very closely packed, so the side windows face the other cabin's windows, but being on the edge meant more privacy from the front side at least. The lodge was quite spacious with 2 leather recliner sofas and a cosy electric fireplace. There was a TV with an inbuilt DVD player (not blue-Ray compatible, which took us a while to figure out!) and a separate CD/radio player. Kitchen was also well-equipped, though dinining with more than 3 adults iside would be tricky. The only downside was a very uncomfortable double bed - it seems that matress really needs replacing as I could feel its springs sticking into me at night. If the matress was changed I would definitely return there as everything else was great and we loved the location, otherwise I might consider looking at other cabins in the Park. We very much enjoyed our stay at Skiddaw cottage.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Skiddaw cottage. We were very lucky with the weather meaning we were able to enjoy some great walks on our stay. The views from the top of Cat Bells is fantastic, and well worth the effort. Being so close to Keswick means after a day of walking you can call into one of the very welcoming pubs for a well deserved pint and a bite to eat before strolling back to the cabin for a relaxing evening. The cabin itself was very clean and the views from the windows was amazing. The only negatives we could find were that the double bed mattress was very uncomfortable, which resulted in us sleeping in the single beds after a couple of nights. This would be the only reason for not returning. But if the mattress issue was addressed, we'd definitely book again. Some people however may well find the mattress to be fine. While not deal breakers, we would have liked to find at least one toilet roll available on arrival. Maybe something the cleaners could provide when preparing for new arrivals. Mattress aside we loved staying at Skiddaw cottage, and have stayed at Burnside Park many times over the years. We would highly recommend staying
