Beautifully located amidst unspoilt countryside with lovely valley views, and just a couple of miles inland from Cardigan Bay, the three cottages at Penrallt Y Cordde offer the perfect location to enjoy the Marine Heritage coastline. There are several award-winning beaches nearby, remote sandy coves and small fishing villages nestling amidst the stunning scenery. Tresaith, Penbryn, Cei Bach, Llangrannog and Mwnt are just a few worthy of a visit and several beaches are dog friendly all year round.
The three cottages sit within the resident owners’ 15 acres of land, where they have their own farmhouse and pastures, meadows, woodlands, ponds and stream. Each holiday cottage is different but all are equally comfortable and with unique features. The Grade II listed detached cottage, Bwthyn Barri (ref OW9) is believed to have been built in 1711 and is full of character with beams and exposed stonework, and has an inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove.
Y Cartws (ref OW8 and meaning ‘cart’), and Yr Ysgubor (ref OX1 and meaning ‘barn’), have been created from an old stone barn and now offer contemporary accommodation in a sympathetic conversion, also with beams, vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework.
The Ceredigion Coastal Path takes in spectacular cliff top views and ‘Cardi Bach’ buses connect with various points along the route. Designated a Special Area of Conservation, Cardigan Bay is home to bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises, grey seals and a variety of sea birds. You can take a dolphin spotting boat trip from New Quay harbour, or just enjoy fish and chips and watch them from the harbour wall. It’s no wonder that writer Dylan Thomas was inspired to settle here for some of his life.
There are plenty of attractive towns and villages to discover nearby, including Cardigan and its castle, the colourful harbour town of Aberaeron with elegant painted Georgian buildings, impressive Cilgerran, and bustling Newcastle Emlyn. Cosy pubs, chic shops, antique centres and good restaurants in the area, and for the more sporty, there are plenty of outdoor activities available including cycle routes, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and a canoe centre at Llandysul.
Just a few miles further inland the scenic Teifi Valley offers excellent opportunities for fishing as well as attractions such as the Teifi Valley Railway, the National Wool Museum, the National Coracle Centre and falls at Cenarth.
Whether you are looking for activity filled days or quiet relaxation and contemplation, Ceredigion has it all and Penrallt Y Cordde offer the perfect base from which to enjoy your holiday or short break. Shop 3/4 mile, pub and restaurant 2¼ miles.

Lovely Christmas decorations made it look magical.

Lovely Christmas decorations made it look magical. Heating had only been set to "once" which was not enough at this time of year - needed it kept on overnight as the air chilled quickly and set it to "twice" for daytime. A glitch with the welcome pack was remedied the next morning which was much appreciated - similarly sorting run down batteries in TV remote and a missing torch. Batteries on the torch that was there also nearly dead. These things should be checked routinely when the previous guest leaves. No bathroom extras (spare toilet paper provided when I asked) like toiletries or paper tissues, and extras in kitchen kept to a minimum, but the bathroom space feels luxurious and the kitchen equipment is good quality: easy to work the stove; good cutlery, plates and Welsh slate mats. Maintenance work needed, but it turns out the property is changing hands this week: in store for the new owners are a jamming back door; leaking skylight in the bathroom and the condition of windows generally needs renovation. Insurance might be compromised if not all windows at least shut properly, and they had no locks. Generally a homely feel to the cottage, rather than luxury, and I grew very fond of it. It took me a day or two to get the hang of avoiding banging my head on the low beam beside my bed! Lovely having some wood supplied, though you don't get the benefit of watching the glow as the doors of the stove need to close.

Beautiful and quaint cottage.

Beautiful and quaint cottage. Very cosy and perfect place for relaxation. Good decent size of private garden for Jake(the dog) to roamed around. The owners are lovely, hospitable and accomadating- a bottle of prosecco was waiting for us when we arrived which was such a nice gesture. We definitely be going back for sure!!!!

Rural location but not far any beach which the dogs loved!!. Sitting room with log burner and LARGE tv?. Quirky and rustic with low beams so duck or grouse. Well fitted kitchen with everything you would need. Two bedrooms upstairs. Double bed and one a double and a single. No pubs in walking distance though. Garage with shop within 5 miles. A super week at Bwthyn Barri - I cannot recommend it highly enough! A very well equipped and maintained cottage. Owners Debbie and Jon are great hosts. We made a number of day trips to (local) attractions and would recommend St David’s for culture and Corris Mine Exploration for those with teens (under 10s can only do the shorter tour) - ours loved it! Super weather at the end of the week allowed us to make use of the excellent beach at Mwnt and, as National Trust members we also visited Dinefwr and Llanerchaeron.
