Historical snapshot with comfort and ambience in spades
My partner and I, and two of our friends recently stayed at Troopers Cottage, as part of birthday celebrations. The property was delightful, outside and in. The cottage is a part of Berrima history, and this has been lovingly maintained by the managers. Having said that, it is replete with modern conveniences. The house is heated throughout, with ducted heating in the bedrooms, gas heater in the kitchen and heaters in each of the bathrooms. If you'd prefer a bit more ambience then there's always the fire in the lounge room. This was prepared and ready for lighting on our arrival.
The rooms were clean and spacious, and filled with period pieces, including lovely brass beds. The cottage would accommodate six easily, so with four it was very comfortable.
The kitchen was stocked with sufficient cutlery, plates, glassware and condiments that you could cook and serve yourself a meal without much fuss. Don't be put off by the lovely Kooka stove, which must be between 90-100 years old. It's gas operated, and easily lit with the matches provided. I had memories of learning to cook on one of these as a young teenager, so I had a great time using a Kooka once more. For the less adventurous, there's a also a microwave in the kitchen. The fridge is a decent size for you to bring and store cold and frozen goods should you wish.
The bathrooms are well appointed, with the back bathroom being a real step back in time. It's been beautifully decorated with items from yesteryear, but it is fully functional.
There's a lovely outdoor area to relax in and meet the local birds. Although it was March, we had a lovely time sitting out there of an evening, sharing our tales of the days.
Overall, this is a great cottage which is within walking distance to old Berrima and its lovely shops. We look forward to staying again.
Thanks you for such a generous review of Troopers Cottage
We have tried to retain the feel of another time in this historic home but with all the comforts we expect today
We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back

A Historic Delight
Troopers Cottage was a delight - much larger than we
anticipated which was perfect for 6 adults. Modern plumbing
and a very quaint kitchen - just like my grandmother's - especially the stove, ancient, but it worked. The location in
Berrima was perfect - very peaceful and a pleasure to sit out
in the garden for our meals. Bonus having a BBQ too. Loved our 4 day stay there, it had everything we needed.
A step back in time!
Great place to stay and very convenient for us , as we attended a wedding at Ben Dooley estate. Trooper’s cottage
is very homely and a step back into yesteryear. All the comforts are included except tv but we did not miss that at all.
Thanks for your kind words - I'm glad you enjoyed your stay
Great old sandstone house in good location and
Really spacious and comfortable house with lovely back yard and really close to town and river walk.
