Perfect for families, friends and couples
About Genevieve Milham
I spent many wonderful years of childhood in this beautiful region of the north east around Beechworth and returned ten years ago to enjoy the tree change. Prior to that I lived in the UK for 16 years and then Sydney (Bondi) before returning to this haven. I studied and practiced architecture. The property inspired me to create a beautiful European style garden reminiscent of those I have enjoyed over the 30 years of my travels. I renovated the buildings to offer guests accommodation and a tranquil retreat for guests seeking special time with friends and family.
Genevieve Milham purchased this House in 2008
Why Genevieve Milham chose Stanley
Beechworth and the region is rich in culture and sophistication. It is one of Australia's renowned wine and gourmet regions featuring great cycling and pristine nature. The unique buildings on this property are reminiscent of places in Provence and Italy and provided an opportunity to create a bridge between worlds.
What makes this House unique
Being at the base of the High Country we enjoy beauty in every season with a gentle temperate climate with plenty of rain. The garden is a picture in every season and the region offers a wealth of interest of culture, wineries and gourmet offerings. I was inspired to create the accommodation and the natural swimming pool to complement the garden and offer guests a unique holiday experience.

We chose this proper for its location, capacity to have a few friends and coming up as pet friendly.
There were no details requesting any further information about having dogs stay or additional costs .
This was something that did require quite a bit of last minute sorting out with the owner.
It would have been helpful to read about this on the initial listing along with the owner living 100m from the guest house in case this did not suit everyone with privacy
. Genevieve allowed us our space although I was initially a little conscious of the close proximity.
There were quite a few rules written in a book once we arrived regarding dogs and additional cleaning costs. This really needs to be written on the site to prevent confusion and unexpected costs along with making a decision to book or not.
Genevieve was helpful with extra bedding and allowed us to use her beautiful vegetable patch.
Overall I would recommend Planetrees to stay, the grounds are truly breathtaking.
I was pleased Natalie called to talk about her plans after making her booking. Over the 11 years I have run my business I find it usual (and a courtesy) for guests with special requirements beyond accommodation to do this. Not everything can be on every website! That gives me the opportunity to clarify our terms and sort out any differences of interpretation in that regard. As stated on our own website, Planetrees allows small dogs but being a rural property with many animals on site and nearby we are not willing to accept large, adventurous/active dogs. Afterall, nature determines a dogs instinctive behavior!
Homeandaway a tick box option for Pet Friendly (yes/no) and nowhere obvious to clarify.
In the case of Nalalie’s booking she proposed bringing three border collies. We had a discussion about concerns and I accepted her commitment to keep her dogs near and controlled. In fact this guests group brought 5 dogs (additional 2 labradors). Natalie kept to her agreement and managed the dogs well. Although we normally charge for animals on site, I let this charge go on this occasion. However, I emphasise that Planetrees will not normally accept dogs without prior agreement with the management and there is a charge. A small dog is up to about 8 kgs!
Instructions left for guests: It is necessary to have tips and terms written and displayed in the accommodation to avoid misunderstanding between the diversity of guests who stay here and the owner/management. These are intended to guide guests. Most are common sense. These instructions are not onerous, but simple directions for all living/sharing this sophisticated property (with its special facilities such as a natural swimming pool) , to be aware about to ensure respect and enjoyment of the the property for all guests/residents.
There are no additional clearing costs to guests unless the property (the house and immediate surrounds) are left in a poor state on departure that requires unreasonable extra work for our staff. The notes indicate what is expected by that request...so there is no misunderstanding.
I encourage all guests booking at Planetrees to read the T and C’s at the bottom of our website page. If anyone finds these T and C’s do not suit their intentions then they can call me to discuss and/or negotiate/arrange cancellation of your booking according to those T and C’s.
Lastly - the Lodge has its own private garden. Other areas/ facilities are shared.
Beautiful property and location. Had a fantastic weekend away with 9 girlfriends.
8 girls away for the weekend
Stunning grounds cosy warm and comfortable. Great beds. The Stanley pub served us a great meal Saturday night. Lovely stay.
Girls weekend away
We were a group of 7 ladies away for our annual girls weekend. Our main reason for choosing this property was the ability to have single beds in most of the rooms so we could each have our own bed. We were originally 9 ladies and this would also have been accommodated with what looked like really comfy roll out beds on the upstairs landing. All the beds and bedding were amazing. We had a great weekend. The Lodge was unique with the log walls and plenty of room for all of us. Sitting by the pool was just the right way to end the day although it was a bit too cold to swim and then chilling in the lounge with seats for everyone. Great facilities in the kitchen, including some breakfast supplies with tea and coffee and we also made use of the veggie patch to add to our salad and one of our ladies whipped up a zucchini soup for dinner! Not too far out of Beechworth and easy to find. We had a really nice weekend, thank you Genevieve and we would highly recommend if you are looking for group accommodation in the Beechworth area
We had such a lovely relaxing experience at Planetrees. Genevieve has a wonderful property with stunning gardens, and the lodge was a very inviting and comfortable. Wonderful stay! Thank you!
Picturesque and the perfect escape
We had the most wonderful stay at Plantrees Lodge. We were a group of 9 adults and the accomodation was perfect for us. Comfy beds, a kitchen fitted out with everything we needed, plenty of space to hang out together and also lots of quiet nooks to find a peaceful moment. The grounds, gardens and pool are absolutely breathtaking. We spent a morning in Beechworth, but hurried back to make the most of the afternoon in the sunshine. We spent the whole day wondering around and exploring the gardens and lounging by the pool and enjoying a delicious meal together in the garden. Genevieve and Zsa Zsa were the perfect hosts. It was so nice to talk to Genevieve and hear about the time and love she had put into making Planetrees the beautiful place it is today. We were sad and reluctant to leave and cannot wait to come back and spend another weekend in this beautiful Wonderland.
