The property is very pet friendly. Loved the natural beauty of the land and seeing the Milky Way at night was a big treat! It was great fun learning about pig farming and experiencing the momma pigs and two week old piglets! We found the small town community very welcoming & fun to explore. Big thank you to April & Steve.

Extraordinary. We loved everything about the stay from the pigs to the porch to the space to the surroundings. It was a true privilege to stay on the farm. We loved sitting on the porch and listening to the bees, humming birds, and birds. Waking up in the morning to the silence of the prairie was especially special for those of us from the city. One of our most favorite stays in all of our travels. We will be back!

Pleasant Stay in the Country

We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful setting. There was plenty of space, and the beds were comfortable. We even enjoyed the pigs! We spent some time in nearby New Glarus. If you want a quiet getaway, this is the place for you.

Best Stay EVER!

We had an amazing time on the farm. The hostess was so friendly, kind and generous with her time and her property. The pigs are adorable and so friendly. The property grounds are beautiful. If you want to experience nature, stay on this farm!

Quick weekend getaway

Beautiful property. Just what we needed. Comfy beds, friendly host and easy check in. Peace and quiet, super close to New Glarus and relatively close to Madison. Cute house and pet friendly. Would recommend.

Driftless farm stay

This was our first visit to this area of the state and we were enthralled with the dramatic driftless landscape. The location of the little farm was perfect- just a few miles from a couple of towns, a state park and yet on an extremely quiet road. The view out the back of the house is simply incredible.

Great place to stay

Wonderful Rustic farm setting. You can sit in the living room or the window seat in the master bedroom and look at acres of prairie and woods. Deer dashing about and birds flitting around eating seeds on the native plants . There isn't a TV so bring your Laptop or several good books to read. The owner is very likable and down to earth. If you want a quiet setting with beautiful views this si the place to stay.

The place was beautiful! Every night the valley filled with fireflies and was magical. The walks around the grounds were really fun and beautiful. The place itself is lovely. April and Steven were friendly and helpful. (The beds were a bit soft, but that may just be personal preference.) Really a fantastic place. Thank you!

Nice getaway

Very nice location and owners. Listing could have been a bit more specific about the duplex style of the rental with a wall separating us. Be prepared to bring paper goods…..Kleenex etc. No frills accommodations. Spent most of our time in New Glarus close by. Highly recommended Kristi’s and Fat Cat restaurants!

50 Acres, on Prairie, Trout Stream?

We were suprised to learn that the host lived in the same dwelling that we were staying in. We didn't realize it was a duplex.

Gorgeous valley

April and Steve could not have been more hospitable. They were friendly, but left us alone, which is just what we want. Steve has restored the prairie in the valley which is impressive. April introduced us to the goofy pigs. This is a gorgeous valley in a gorgeous area of Wisconsin. It is quiet and peaceful; deer sauntered through the meadow at dusk, and fireflies floated across it in evenings;. A beautiful stay. Thanks so much!

Cute cottage, great people

The cottage is about a 15min drive from New Glarus down some back roads. It's a working pig farm, but the pigs aren't a bother at all, and April is a wonderful host who's easy to get hold of. It is wonderfully quiet, with beautiful midwest rolling hills and trees surrounding you. The space has a full kitchen with anything you need, though we just ate in New Glarus on our short trip. No TVs, which my wife and I appreciated but our adult kids weren't sure about. Plenty of outlets to plug in though, and the wifi seemed fine. Buy some bacon, or lard, from April before you leave!

Should have read between the lines.

There was no sign at property entrance to identify it as a VRBO. Very rural country road, it was easy to drive right on by. The unit is an old "mother-in-law's apartment", attached to the owners house. The only entrances were through a cluttered garage or through a lockable shared bathroom/laundry between the unit and owner's house. Since there is only one outside entrance we question the legality of this as a rental. (The fact that this unit is attached to the owner's home should have been disclosed in the listing.) There is no TV or other entertainment (radio, DVD or CD player, or games). The view of the valley was beautiful, but only from the bedroom and living room windows. Since the area around the building was overgrown by grass and weeds the only outside viewing area was from the driveway and then only if we had provided our own lawn chairs. After surveying the situation for about 20 minutes we informed the owner that the property was not acceptable and that we were leaving. No refund was requested, and none was offered by the host. If this had been our first VRBO experience, it would have been our last. Fortunately we have had many really good experiences in the past at VRBO properties.

Quiet, stars everywhere

Great place. Very new. Nice kitchen. LOVELY fireplace. Super nice owners. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there are a few things I think could be better (based on other VRBO and HomeAway rentals I've stayed in): 1. The kitchen is mismatched. That's fine! But having just one wine glass when you advertise that a place sleeps 5 is not. I expect there to be enough of the basics (plates, silverware, glasses, etc) to accommodate all potential guests. There's a note that you can ask for extra linens if you need them, but, if 5 were staying (as we originally thought we'd be there with friends), I would expect a minimum of maybe 8 towels, not 4. 2. The master bed is a double and makes a lot of noise! My husband has LITERALLY slept through tornado warnings & even he commented on the amount of noise the bed makes. (We switched to the second bedroom, which has a queen, our 2nd night.) 2a. I found it odd that the bigger bed wasn't in the master suite, especially since the room could accommodate a king, but that's not a problem, just a surprise. 3. There were more than a few things that needed fixing. As in the shower door handle fell off & dishwasher didn't work. I get that it's winter and probably not prime time for renters in Wisconsin! (And the notes around the house about how things worked made total sense to me.) And, for two people that's not a problem, but, if we were 5, especially since it seems otherwise fairly new, stuff like that would have been a problem. These problems seem easily fixed (by a run to Target or Lowe's and some wood glue) and, if they were, I would totally give the place 5 stars!

Peaceful get away far from the city

Just a beautiful place. Comfy beds and furniture. Everything you need to cook a thanksgiving meal and snuggle by the fire. April was so helpful and kind and doing good work in the world. Can't rave enough about how amazing our time at Dorothy's Range was.

Poor communication and hospitality

My wife and I stayed here for one night. The property is very pretty but hosts lacked hospitality and communication. The check-in, check-out process was very unclear until we arrived. The hosts wanted us to keep them updated on our ETA, which we did, only to find out they left the property right before our arrival which was frustrating. We did not end up meeting them that evening and on check out in the morning, we saw and greeted them, but were seemingly ignored. We were excited to stay on the farm, meet the hosts, and learn about the property, but never had that opportunity.
