Wading into Long Island Sound

We had a great trip. The water is very calm; it would have been great for kayaking or paddle boarding had we been able to bring them along. The beach is nice and sandy but the water barely gets over waist deep in the roped off section- wonderful if you have little ones. The house was nice, clean, plenty of rooms and beds (but only 2 bedrooms with AC which was thankfully enough for our needs). Towels and sheets were more than ample but we only could find a handful of washcloths which had us doing laundry every night. Mystic was not too far (the belugas at the aquarium were awesome); nearby Niantic was great (caught the local fireworks over the bay and we were quite impressed). I liked all the local ice cream shops we tried (but, to be honest, i’m pretty easy to please when it comes to ice cream). If you go, check out the Book Barn; they sell gently used books cheap ($1 for most paperbacks) - you’re sure to find something to read while hanging out on the beach without having to worry about it’s condition when you finish.

It is a nice family oriented house & neighborhood, with beach access.

A very nice area. However, one neighbor thought it was ok to run the lawnmower @7:30AM! On Saturday! This was our second year renting this house. The owner told me they will be doing some renovations this winter. That will make for an even more enjoyable vacation. Looking forward to next year!😊

UNWANTED GUESTS

RECEIVED AN EMAIL 8-8 FROM THE OWNER EXPLAINING THEY HAD TO HAVE THE HOUSE SPRAYED FOR "BEACH ANTS" AND THAT IT WOULD NEED A DAILY VAC, AND WAS I OK WITH THAT, I REPLIED NO PROBLEM. ONLY TO BE BITTEN BY FLEAS WHILE THERE, WE BOMBED AND SPRAYED ALL OF THE AREAS WITH RUGS, WITH SOME RELIEF, UPON RETURNING HOME I INFORMED THE OWNER WHO STATED, SHE "HAD SPENT TWO DAYS THERE PRIOR TO OUR ARRIVAL WITH NO PROBLEMS. MYSELF,GRANDSON AND DAUGHTER HAD BITES ALL OVER OUR FEET AND ANKLES,AS WE ARE NO PET OWNERS THEY HAD TO COME FROM THERE, WE DIDN'T GO WITH THEM. NOT ONLY DID THIS LEAVE A BAD FEELING ABOUT OUR STAY BUT, I FELT THE OWNER SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORTH COMING WHEN THIS INFORMATION,BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANTS AND FLEAS. NOT A RELAXING VACATION, MORE WORK THEN I WOULD HAVE DONE AT HOME. AND HOW DO YOU UPROOT YOUR GRANDKIDS AFTER YOU ARE ALL SETTLED IN FOR A "BEACH STAY" I FELT HER RESPONSE TO THIS SITUATION TO BE LESS THEN PROFESSIONAL. DON'T NEED A DEGREE IN ENTOMOLOGY TO RECOGNIZE FLEAS FROM ANTS,THIS WAS NOT WHAT WE BARGAINED FOR. AS TOLD THE OWNER,WE LET THE PROPERTY MUCH CLEANER THAN WE FOUND IT

The previous renter had reported sand ants which I informed you of on 8/8/17. Myself and my family were at the house the week previous on and off and saw no evidence of what you report. That being said ,I did in fact have the house sprayed for any issue regarding what was reported prior to your arrival with our contracted exterminator. I also contacted our cleaning crew who cleans every Saturday during the summer and they reported seeing no issues when they spend 3 plus hours there a week preparing the home for the next renter. It was the recommendation of the exterminating company to vacuum daily or every other day based on what they had sprayed. I advised you as such and even offered to send over the cleaning crew to handle if it was not something you were willing to do. You checked out on 8//19 and it was not until the day after check out on 8/20 that you made ANY attempt to contact me in any way to report. There were multiple ways to contact me as the welcome book included my cell phone and email and we had been corresponding through the rental website. If that was myself I would have contacted an owner immediately! I would have made immediate arrangments to go to the property and inspect and had someone go to the house with an expertise to inspect and treat.I was not given this opportunity as an owner, Nor did you give me an opportunity to inform a future guest of what you claimed you found. We are a pet free home and do not allow pets of ANY kind due to the allergies in my own family. Neighbors in the area take notice of ANY activity or what may appear to be misuse of that house such as that and do in fact report back me. I have gotten zero reports this summer. This is my family vacation home as well. We take great pride in it. Upon your check out I had the home reinspected again, inside/ outside/attic/basement, the exterminator found no evidence of any type of flea but again found some ants because food had dropped inbetween the counter and fridge. I travel quite a bit but while I am home I am only 45min-1 hr from the property. If there was any issue during your stay you should have reached out to me so that I could have addressed concerns and attempted to fix any issue you may have had immediately. This is the one and only negative review we have ever had as I take great pride in communication with guests and are selective with whom we rent to during the high season.

Simple, with plenty of room.

Loved our stay, and liked it more the longer we stayed. Not fancy, but plenty of room. My wife was impressed by how well stocked the kitchen was with cooking gear. The owner was very accommodating with our unusual and early scheduling. The owner was also very responsive when we had a question.

Nice time in Niantic CT

This April (2017) we have been in the house. It is big enough for at least eight people. It is in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. The forest and the beach are a few hundred meters. Kim (the owner) has solved any doubts we have had Really, a very appetizing place to spend a vacation David

Good sized house in a great location

It's a nice house. There was plenty of room for my family. The beach was a 5 minute walk.
