If you are a couple looking for somewhere special to stay in one of the most ruggedly beautiful areas of Tasmania - the Tasman Peninsula - look no further than Wildwood Retreat!
The region is surrounded by water, boasting multiple beautiful beaches as well as the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere.
The retreat is nestled beneath Mount Koonya, part way up the Koonya valley and enjoys elevated views through soaring floor to ceiling double glazed windows on both levels. Wildwood retreat is surrounded by pristine native Eucalypt forest in the picturesque historic hamlet of Koonya on the banks of Cascade and Norfolk Bays. The views are spectacular from the upper level open plan kitchen/dining/living area especially which is spacious and filled with natural light.
Guests will also find thoughtful touches and carefully curated limited edition and original art works throughout the property. The retreat is also generously equipped, and guests will find a generous supply of basics in the guest pantry.
Guests can also request at extra cost a bespoke hamper of local produce, subject to being given sufficient notice and availability.
The kitchen is fully functional and well equipped with stone bench tops and quality appliances, including a SMEG oven and cooktop, Bosch dishwasher and Electrolux Fridge/freezer. There is a DeLonghi coffee making machine also in the retreat using both ground coffee and pods.
The dining area seats four. The living area has two quality leather chairs plus a luxurious goose and feather down sofa for extra comfort.
There is also a flat screen Smart TV in the living are and the retreat enjoys FREE high speed Wi Fi (we are connected to the NBN). We have also provided a selection of games, magazines and books for our guests to enjoy.
The bedroom is also extremely spacious with a European KS bed (marginally larger than a Queen sized bed in Australia) and thermal honey comb black out blinds. The bedroom also accommodates a desk and chair, as well as a leather recliner to relax and read.
The bedroom also has a small TV and DVD player and a small selection of DVD's.
The bedroom ensuite has underfloor heating (for the cooler months) and has a heated towel rail and walk in shower, as well as a free standing bath nestled beneath bi-fold windows so that guests can enjoy a luxurious indoor/outdoor bathing experience.
Bath crystals, bubble bath and candles are provided as well as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and Tasmanian hand made soap. Guests need to provide their own slippers.
OUTDOOR HOT TUB TO DIE FOR!
We are excited that Wildwood guests can now also enjoy the luxury of our fabulous outdoor Hot Tub (New Zealand Stoked Stainless) that enoys beautiful views down the valley over rolling pasture towards Norfolk Bay.
The hot tub is discreetly located directly on the far side of the retreat next to the retreat bedroom and is for the exclusive use of our guests when they are in situ.
Guests need to bring their own swimsuits to use in the Spa and suitable footwear to wear to walk from the retreat to the Spa location. Robes are provided.
Watch the clouds float blissfully overhead as you relax and de-stress to a chorus of birdsong or marvel at the Southern skies and stars twinkling overhead. Bliss!
ECO CREDENTIALS
Wildwood Retreat enjoys a 7 star ECO rating. The property is clad on the exterior in stunning spotted gum that has been sustainably sourced. We have also used recycled timber off cuts to create bespoke doors for the property, including the retreat entry door.
We grow organically, recycle and encourage our guests to both recycle and use the compost bin provided to provide vegetable scraps for our worm farm.
WILDLIFE
Prolific bird and wildlife can be viewed direct from the property, including paddy melons, sea eagles, wedge tailed eagles, parrots and other prolific bird life. You are also likely to see our resident echidna, native hens, wallabies, possums and our resident wombat - though he can be shy!
GORGEOUS LOCAL BEACH
We are also fortunate to have a gorgeous little beach - Shelly Beach - just a 2 minute drive away used predominantly by locals (its our little secret!), that is relatively shallow as tidal and that offers a fantastic spot to have a swim year round! It is also wonderful to sit and enjoy a glass of beer or wine later in the afternoon/early dusk!
PROVISIONS
Guests are expected to bring their own provisions to eat and drink as the property has its own kitchen and cooking facilities. If guests run out of an item or are missing an ingredient however, we are happy to supply this if we can!
ACCESS
The area immediately around the retreat is relatively flat, however beyond that immediate garden (accessed via rustic stone steps) the land is steep, the ground uneven, there is an open dam, unfenced hot tub (accessed by adults ONLY), unfenced stone terraces as well as steep rustic stone steps to negotiate.
Internally there is also a spiral staircase that connects the two levels, due to insufficient room for a lift or ramp.
SHARED + PRIVATE AREAS
The retreat is fully self contained and NO areas internally are shared. All rooms and entire retreat are for the exclusive use of our guests.
The guest garden by the retreat entry area is screened off and is entirely private and for the exclusive use of our guests.
The Hot Tub is also for the exclusive use of our guests when is situ. The hot tub cannot be viewed from our residence.
The front deck of our property adjoins the retreat. This is the ONLY shared space. However, we do out utmost to avoid using the front deck when guests are in situ to ensure guests privacy. In truth, we rarely if ever see, let alone commune with, the vast majority of our guests who come and go at their leisure! We leave the decision whether to interact to our guests entirely! Our guests privacy and enjoyment of the property is very important to us so we do not disturb guests unlessnecessary.
There is also broader acreage beyond the guests' private garden which is another shared area (guests are most welcome to explore our acreage and to go for a walk in the native forest - there is an old concealed convict road that runs through it!).
REGION
Tasman Peninsula! One of the most stunning regions in Lutruwita/Tasmania!
Overall, guests will find staying a Wildwood a truly unique, serene, rejuvenating and relaxing experience. Two nights is insufficient though to truly experience all this fabulous region has to offer. Why not stay a while in one of the most beautiful regions in the world.
Guests have their own parking, garden and entry area.
Guests access the retreat with their own key that is kept in a key safe. The code will be emailed or texted a day or two before your stay.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
We are battling the native fur balls with respects to our new landscaping and the extended area on the land and driveway in is still being landscaped and we are engaging in some bush clearing. However, this will NOT impact on your stay, private areas or enjoyment of the property.
