Relaxing after a few hurdles
Getting to the property was a nightmare. Probably need to recommend having a 4WD. Finally found the place and was very stressed so went to destress in the pool which was full of spiders and leaves. Took us an hour to clean. After these initial hurdles had a lively time.
Our young family enjoyed a Wonderful weekend in the Ipakey self contained cottage.
We loved the serene location, away from the city, unplugged from digital world and immersed in a lush valley with native and farm animals nestled in between beautiful mountains.
We had Plenty to do (or not do) at the house and local area for a long weekend.
Will definitely be back
It’s hard to write about this place because I don’t want others finding out about it! This was our second stay and we can’t get enough of it! Has all you can want. With no wifi it allows you to be present with eachother and unwind by the fire in winter or the pool in summer. To us it’s perfect.
What a great spot! Just fresh air and no distractions. Loved the simplicity of it - loved the open fire, well stocked kitchen and beaut views. The bbq has seen better days but no complaints here
After wondering whether or not our stay at Ipakey was going to happen due to the terrible bushfires in the Yengo National Park, we were excited to receive our stay instructions from the real estate. The instructions were very clear which is good as the gravel road in can seem at first to go on for a while although after travelling on it a few times its not that far at all. First impressions of Ipakey were ones of delight as the location is utterly beautiful. Nestled in-between the ridges of the Yengo National Park and with no visible neighbours you really do get the feeling of isolation...perfect!
The house itself is great and has everything you could think of to make your stay homely and comfortable. Its basic, but that's what we were looking for. No TV, no WiFi and no phone reception were welcomely received so the kids had to make up their own entertainment. To this end the excellent pool provided many fun family hours of entertainment, especially when the temperature rose over 35'c. With no air con the ceiling fans struggled on a 40'c day but quickly cooled once the southerly appeared.
The only issue we faced was the verandah and outside tables needing a scrub down as they were covered in soot due to a backburn out the back of the property. Other than that we really enjoyed the stay with no issues.
For those who enjoy bike riding, the nearby Boree Track and Finchley Track offer good trail riding. The later also continues up to the Finchley Trig Lookout 8km from Ipakey (no issue for a soft roader 4wd, 2wd might struggle a little). This took us through some of the worst parts of the recent fires in the area (the trail is now safe from falling trees) with the actually lookout offering a glimpse into the scale of the fire with scorched tree canopies as far as the eye could see towards Gospers Mountain. Well worth the drive for the spectacular view noneetheless.
Local services in Laguna were superb with fresh produce available from the Providore and the Great Northern Trading Post offering pub lunches everyday then beautifully cooked dinners and breakfasts on the weekend.
The same can be said for the Myrtle House Cafe in Wollombi whose breakfasts were a highlight.
At the end of our stay we reflected on what a beautiful corner of Australia Ipakey is set in and would love to come back to stay and see the surrounds in another season.
We had a beautiful stay and restful time at Ipakey. We would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway. The house was very clean, beds very comfortable. Facilities were everything you needed. We enjoyed beautiful starry skies and walks around, seeing lovely black cockatoos and kookaburras.
There are lots of toys and books for children to enjoy when indoors as well. Sitting on the big verandah watching the bush was so peaceful.
Highly recommend this lovely location.
Just loved this spot, everything you need for a great weekend away. Campfire, indoor fire, close to Laguna wine bar with live music. We will be back.

Ipakey cottage stay
Perfect place for a quiet getaway, clean and tidy and beautiful land to discover, a little bit hard to access with a steep slope on the drive in. Otherwise, had a great time.

Beautiful peaceful setting
Fantastic place to stay. Tranquil environment, clean and everything you need including NO TV or Mobile phone service. There were 6 of us and the only problem we could find that the toilet was in the 1 bathroom which made the mornings a little toe tapping if you know what I mean.

Lovely and kitchen well appointed but needs air con in peak summer
Had a lovely weekend though 3 x days over 40 degrees. Pool obviously helped but the house and bed rooms really need air con. No one could sleep.
Kitchen very well stocked with utensils, pans, bowls etc. Everything you need.
Photos on site do not do it justice.
Setting was beautiful and tranquil.
Would happily go back again but not in peak summer.

Great place to escape
More isolated than we realised. But it worked well. The teenagers had no phone , wi fi, internet or tv, so the pool was well used. Great views and sense of freedom. They all want to go again. Property well equipped and comfortable.

Great family retreat away
The place was clean, tidy and well maintained. The kids loved the pool and when it was raining they enjoyed all the toys and books. We woke up to horses in the front paddock each morning and kangaroos on the drive in and out. Take supplies as it is 30 mins to any store.
