We stayed here with our bridal party over our wedding weekend and it was a wonderful place to stay! Lots of space for a big group and the facilities all worked great.
Check in process was a breeze. Great communication with the owners when we had questions.
Everything was clean and as expected. With plenty of room for 11 people - we all slept comfortably, had plenty of room to make meals for everyone and great space to serve it all. It was a wonderful experience to be able to all eat together in one space.
The important points:
Great water pressure - comfortable beds - lots of hot water - great morning views on the deck for a quiet cup of Joe - funky bonfire pit - and a few bonus visitors from deer, geese and pelicans.
The teens (and men) loved the sound system! And found their way to the lake where a few good sized bullheads were caught and released.
Biggest hit with the group - the Harry Potter Uno card game around the kitchen table with 9 people! Family-friendly home at its finest.
Highly recommend this place for a quiet picturesque place to get away from it all.
The property lists a washing machine. We were charged $0.50 if we wanted to do a load of laundry. The owner requested the money be sent via Venmo. It lists a stereo with surround sound for entertainment. The cable for the sound system in the upstairs loft area was broken, so I could not hook up a phone to the system to play music. The disco ball did not spin. The towels in the basement level bathroom were musty/mildewy smelling and feeling. Under the chairs in the upstairs living room, there were chunks of Irish Spring soap and even a chunk of soap under the fitted sheet in one of the beds. Also, in the downstairs bedroom, along the wall and behind the bed, there was a significant amount of mouse poop. In the upstairs living room/seating area, the small couch had a broken armrest. This was not shown in the photos. The walls and trim had many holes/scratches throughout the property being repaired/patched and painted with the incorrect color paint. Overall the property is nice but not as great as the photos make it seem.

Future renters please know this review is from a biology lab supervisor and she wrote this like she was under a microscope looking for every imperfection which she found. She had my phone number and e-mail and never told me any of this until this posted review. This review also had zero positive comments which I think you should note. My response to her comments:
I am glad to know the cord for the surround sound is not working and I have already order a new one.
The disco ball has working lights but does not currently turn as it was broken by a renter. It is hard to find a person to replace a disco ball in the country but I will do when the down season happens.
This is the first I heard of mouse poop downstairs. I have alerted my housekeepers and pest control team to address. We have not had any mouse problem since renting in 2017.
The arm on the pretty antique love seat was broken by a renter and we have tried to fix because it is a great antique piece so we will try to fix again or we can replace it. It's an arm rest on an antique.
The property is booked every night in July besides two nights. I know I have heavy towels and my housekeepers have asked for lighter towels so they dry faster. I don't think this is the same as "musty".
We took some pictures off the wall in 2019 and had problems matching the grey paint in a few patches which we can try to rematch grey paint to fix. We can touch up the white trim to her liking also in the down season.
Please read reviews from renters who appreciate the 360 degrees of beautiful views of the rolling country, big outdoor deck, comfortable high quality mattresses, big open fully stocked kitchen, beautiful rugs and tile flooring. Joten Lake offers a wonderful space and experience for large groups in rural Otter Tail County. There are two ways of looking at your environment - through the criticism of what you see in a microscope or through honoring the positive beauty around you. Thank you for any question you may have about staying with us - we do aim to please and believe from feedback the property delights most renters.

This is a beautifully renovated property. The views are picturesque and calming. It was ideal for reconnecting with family. It boosts a large capacity but can only really host 5 couples or fewer comfortably. It has a sizable stylish bathroom on each level but the water is minerally and smells strongly of pennies. I’m not sure if it was the hard water or the dishwater but the dishes never felt clean. Each bathroom also had a warning that the septic tank was sensitive and minimal toilet tissue should be used. It has geothermal heating and cooling which worked but made constant noise for those sleeping in the basement. It is very remote being on 45 acres of land, with a long dirt road entrance, which can make trips out for groceries or activities cumbersome and nights with so many curtainless windows spooky. The few windows with curtains were ill fitting and didn’t fully block sun. Some of the furniture is in rough shape especially one couch missing an armrest in a dangerous way. The property has a large deck across the back which was a great place to hang out but got pretty toasty when it was sunny. The upper level is big and open and the kids loved running and dancing up there even if the disco ball wouldn’t rotate. There was an issue with the keyless entry system that never got fixed but the owners had a back up figured out before our arrival. Bring bug spray or bug candles/lamps, being the only light around really drew them in. It was a lovely, secluded place.
Wonderful experience on this peaceful acreage. Watched the sunrise over the lake every morning with a cup of coffee. The upstairs loft was a bonus area with a great view. Thanks for the lovely stay.
