Wonderful cabin and stay
Cardinal House is beautiful - room to spread out and warm feel to it. Our group went hiking, canoeing, fishing, and sitting by the fire at night. Great cabin, location and extras.
Lovely, quiet and remote.
Very Nice, everything you need is there. Just bring food and water. So relaxing.
Nice to get away from the city and all the electronics.
Heaven on Earth
This is our 4th year staying at Cardinal House and we still love staying here. We host an annual retreat and everyone always says how refreshed and renewed they feel after our long weekend at Cardinal House. On the blue river, Cardinal House is a large house with a big kitchen and central fire place, just perfect for our group of 13. There is a fantastic fire pit with plenty of chairs and 2 big grills, one gas and one charcoal. The big central fireplace inside is a great place to gather the chairs around and visit with friends or family. The owner is highly responsive to questions. Our group highly recomments Cardinal House!
DISASTER! MICE, SNAKE, and lying & non-reimbursing owners - Stay away!
What makes a perfect getaway with 2 small children? If you are into the following, you'll love it.
1) Filthy and dilapidated premises and accommodations (complimentary hole in a roof)
2) Mouse feces on the floor, live mice everywhere (we trapped 4), a live rat snake in the kitchen
3) No air conditioning in the summer (1 fan that sounds like a Jet engine)
4) Owners that promise to reimburse over $1000 for 3 months but never do (they keep coming up with different excuse each time
A real cabin... finally!!
For those of us that miss the real cabin days, the Cardinal house is for you!! Our family of four stayed here this past Sunday - Tuesday (August 12 -14) for a quick get away before the kids went back to college. The house is very large and could have easily accommodated not only us but many more. The decor in the home is just like it should be... feeling like a cabin, all well kept, orderly and clean. The fans are great to keep the house cool and air flowing. The screened in porch was perfect for dinner and I loved the kitchen - very large with the sun streaming in, in the morning - very nice!
The grounds around the house are lovely with a sprawling lawn down to the river. We never left. We brought our kayak and rafts and floated down the river which is beautiful. Our son is an avid fisherman and had a great time along the edge of the river or on the river.
Overall our stay was so relaxing. The hosts and owner were very responsive and nice to work with. Thank you so much!
A little rustic, but great lodging for the outdoors person
We loved this lodge!!! Plenty of space indoors and out. The lot is mostly flat and perfect for yard games like Kan-Jam, croquet, bocce, volleyball, cornhole, ect.
There were even cornhole boards there! (Bring your own bags) Plenty of trees for hanging a hammock or a slackline. Additional information for first timers;
The two bedrooms with full-sized beds...heads are actually located against the same wall with an open ceiling, so not much privacy for more than one couple. The vrbo listing stated wireless internet was available, but there is no WiFi, cable, tv, ect... This wasn't a problem for my group of friends, but would be devastating if my children were counting on it. I had excellent phone service through my service provider though.
The owner/manager were easily accessible by phone and very informative about Blue River information. The cabin was equipped with firewood and charcoal, and the river access was perfect for us! I would love to return to this little "gold mine."
