-ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS-
Visitors come to the High Desert for its unique landscape, culture, and recreational opportunities, as well as for the weather - hot and dry summers and mild winters at our high altitude. Joshua Tree and the communities surrounding the Joshua Tree National Park include Flamingo Heights, Pioneertown, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Landers. You’ll be close to all the action at The Desert Hideaway. Some of our favorite options available to you:

–Joshua Tree National Park: 800,000 acres of mystical beauty - Joshua Tree National Park is one of the world’s most incredible natural desert treasures. Sweeping, grand in scale and populated by granite monoliths and voluptuous rock and boulder formations. This quiet land, conducive to meditation and roaming, was carved by extremes in climate - wind, rain and an ever-present, relentless sun. Diverse forms of plant life are found everywhere, but none as unique or prevalent as the park’s namesake: the Joshua tree, standing majestically across the vast topography.

–Pioneertown: Step back in time to thus rustic Old West-style village. Wander through the historic buildings, visit unique shops, catch a live music performance at Pappy & Harriets, and experience the Wild West charm.

• The Integratron: New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.

desert relaxation
After a busy family wedding weekend, this was the perfect spot to do a little hiking and then come back and just relax in the hot tub or sit and read a book on the outdoor suspended bed.

Joshua Tree
We love staying near Joshua Tree and this property has a good location to the park. It was a great rental. The only thing that could be improved as a little more attention to cleaning. (the refrigerator had a quarter inch on dust on top and there were crumbs on the floor that I stepped in with my bare feet.) I cleaned those areas and after that had a relaxing time enjoying hiking, the hot tub and the views. Thank you very much.

Phenomenal stay!
The house was exactly as listed. Plenty of space, beautiful open living/kitchen space with fantastic west facing views. You feel completely isolated in the area with tons of privacy. Two grills, two outdoor hanging/swinging beds, and 1 very clean hot tub. Couldn't ask for a better location with access to hikes right out the door, or just short drives away. Would definitely go back and stay there. Thank you so much for a great stay!!

Perfect Joshua Tree stay
This property is very warm and inviting and so close to the park! The Homestead team was very available to answer our questions. We especially enjoyed stargazing from the hot tub.

Very Disappointing Experience with Property Management
It was a crazy time to be in Joshua Tree with the snow and wind and with all that, we had a really lovely visit. The house was nice and a good setup for two friends getting together. There were several things that are important to bring to attention that made the experience frustrating - particularly considering the large amount paid for three days. 1) The house never felt warm enough throughout the stay. We had each of the 3 units set at 85 degrees in hopes that it would warm the house to anything above 70, but it never got warmer than about 65-68 degrees. When the management company was contacted, there was no resolve to making the house warmer. 2) The listing clearly states that there were 2 separate hot tubs and yet, there was only one. This was a disappointment because with the very high winds coming from the other side of the house (where the hot tub was), we were unable to use the hot tub because there was no barrier to the wind. Further, there were exposed wires on the patio where the other hot tub was removed. When this was brought to their attention, their reply was, “We did our best to update the listing and photos, so sorry if we may have missed something that said otherwise. We have checked our listing and photos again to make sure nothing mentions the old arrangements, apologies again for any confusion there.” This is an egregiously false statement. To date, the listing continues to state differently, and the pictures also still indicate there are two hot tubs 3) The firepit on the side with the missing hot tub also did not work and it was far too windy to use the other one. 4) There was only one wine glass for the entire home. While it wasn't a big deal to use another juice glass for wine, for the price of the home, one would easily expect there to be more than one glass. It was a huge disappointment that two of the features that we valued in our selection of a home (hot tub and firepit) were not available to us. Of even bigger disappointment was how Homestead Modern chose to address our concerns – which was to blame us for not doing even more to solicit help in rectifying the heating, hot tub, and firepit concerns. They referred to our concerns as mere “hiccups”. Blaming the lessee for the improper management of the rental, and not taking responsibility (as the management company), is never a sophisticated way to manage when you fall short.
