Perfectly located to explore the area. Fully renovated with hand rendered walls, polished concrete floor, full kitchen, reverse cycle heating and cooling with the added luxury of a wood fired heater and a swish bathroom. The wood fired Chiminea creates a romantic atmosphere for some awesome star gazing or to enjoy a glass of wine by.
The large garden is perfect for spreading out a rug and relaxing while listening to the birds.

Mossiface is only 35 minutes from the Gippsland Lakes and the 90 mile beach at Lakes Entrance where you can enjoy the beach, takea cruise on the Lakes or try some fishing.

Guests love spending some time at the new Hot Springs complex Metung where you can enjoy soaking in the hot mineral filled water while admiring a wonderful view of the lakes. Check out the Pub and local shops while there.

East Gippsland is known for fishing with the choice of Lake, open sea and river fishing. If you have a boat the closest launching site is the Tambo River at Johnsonville, a mere 10 minutes away, where you can either stay in the river or motor into the lake system.

Take a day and travel up the Great Alpine Road to historic Omeo and the old gold fields. From Omeo you can continue on to Dinner Pain and Mount Hotham or wind your way home via Cassilis. Alternatively a trip to the quaint little town of Buchan and it's famous caves is well worth doing. Note that you need to pre book to take a caves tour. There is so much to see in this beautiful part of Victoria. Visit our wineries and galleries or explore the National parks and many walking tracks.

About the host

Hosted by Joy Manley

Host profile image
Jeff and Joy have lived in East Gippsland for many years, in fact Joy grew up at Timbarra, near Buchan, on the family farm. They now live in Mossiface and love the area. They cannot imagine living anywhere else. Jeff and Joy are a practical couple couple who love to have a project to work on. For four years they juggled their paid jobs with building a Strawbale house at Timbarra and then renovated this poured earth building, now known as Gingko Lodge. The result is two unique buildings that are both comfortable and inspiring. Guests will love Gingko Lodge's beautiful textured walls, use of recycled and natural building materials and the general ambience created. Jeff and Joy have enjoyed adding lots of special touches to make their guests comfortable and to create a special stay for them.

Joy's love of gardening and art is evident in the beautiful garden and original art works on the walls of Gingko Lodge. Jeff has been a Tradie in the past and enjoys putting his many practical skills to use. He laughingly says that " Joy is the ideas person and he is the doer'.

Why they chose this property

The thing that attracted Jeff and Joy to this property was the location. Close to the pretty little town of Bruthen but surrounded by farms and beautiful views whilst benefiting from the sunny northerly aspect. A perfect location in their minds.

What makes this property unique

This unique open plan lodge is spacious and comfortable with a scrumptious king bed to sink into at the end of the day. Fluffy robes and sheep skin rugs make it easy to get up in the morning.
The poured earth walls and rustic timber post and beam design hide a modern and spacious space with plenty of room to spread out. A modern well equipped kitchen with full stove, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. The large bathroom includes a washing machine.
There is a comfortable couch to curl up on in front of the fire on cold nights. Your hosts will have the fire burning when you arrive on chilly days.
Some of Joy's original artwork hangs on the walls, some of which is available to buy as a momento of your stay.
A large private courtyard includes a barbecue and wood fired chiminea heater. The building sits in a large garden with the hosts living on site. Guests have access to a grassy lawn with shady trees at the rear of the building.
Pets are welcome. Mae, the resident border collie is friendly and loves to welcome visitors, especially dogs. She will invite them to come and play with her.
Horses are welcome with a secure yard available for them. Horses are permitted on the rail trail. Or bring bikes because the East Gippsland Rail Trail stretching from Bairnsdale to Orbost is only 500 metres from Gingko Lodge.
