About this property

Ocean Key Resort

These are nice 1 bedroom 1 bath timeshare units with full kitchens and everything you need. The resort is right across the street from the Oceanfront in VA Beach. The resort is ranked 22 out of 115 in VAB and has been totally redone. This unit sleeps up to 4 people and is conveniently located at 4th and Atlantic next to Rudy Inlet at the south end of the boardwalk. Great place to ride bikes or rollerblade. Unit has a full kitchen stocked with pots pans and dishes so no need to eat out. flat screens in every room, really comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, all redone a few years ago. Also directly across from Waterman's Seafood restaurant and the 4th street pavilion on the boardwalk where they have good live music. A few blocks from Grommet Park: the giant jungle gym structure on the beach at the south end of the boardwalk.

An easy walk to the heart of VAB - the boardwalk, restaurants, bars, night life, roller coasters and rides, mini golf, arcades, and the ocean front and beaches. Great place for kids and adults.

The city of VA Beach pays bands and street acts to perform on every other street corner every night between 15th and 30th Street. Free concerts at the several pavilions up and down the boardwalk. Great place to ride bikes or rollerblade. Parking included. Indoor pool and hot tub. Arcade games, gym, activities, grocery delivery from Harris Teeter. 45 minutes from Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg.

We love this hotel because it is the perfect location - you are across the street from the ocean near the huge jungle gym at the end of the board walk. A stones throw from where the boat tours and deep sea fishing boats go out. Also includes access to the rooftop indoor pool, Sauna, hot tub and huge deck overlooking the strip at the Ocean Sands, Ocean Front at 23rd street. This also includes free parking at the Ocean Sands.

Great Experience

The room was clean and stocked with basic kitchen supplies in case you want to make your own meals. The location was convenient to the beach, shopping and great restaurants. We had a nice view of the ocean from the bedroom.

Great Location

Mother/teen daughter trip. The location is perfect; only thing between the property and the beach is yummy Waterman’s Surfside Grille. Located at the end of the board walk, so less crowded but still a close walk to everything. Only downfall is rooms are not very resistant to noise, we heard a lot of traffic 24/7 and other guests from their rooms. Still a great stay for the price!

Great location

Overall great experience. Check in was quick and easy, they even gave us a parking pass before we were able to check in so we could go to our event and not have to move our car. Unit and building were clean in a great location. Parking garage is super tight. Unit had a living room, galley style kitchen and a bedroom. Was perfect for our stay.

Short but sweet

The only bad part about our stay was parking. The parking garage is not set up for bigger SUV or trucks. It’s a nightmare really. They should ask for the type of vehicle you will be driving and atleast allow you an alternative to there small out of date parking garage.

Good but...

The location for us was great. The unit was fairly clean - little things here and there (bathroom in general, sink area) were not clean. There was an AC leak the first full day so maintenance had to come in and deal with that for about an hour. Second day power went out (everywhere in the area) but the AC never came back on. We had to ask twice before it worked. The kitchen isn't really a kitchen and the laundry is a building laundry with 2 washers and 2 dryers - half of which did not work. We liked it for the location but there were just a lot of issues.

The Good, easy to find/get to. The check in took a while and the information provide by staff was minimal/lacking but we were able to get in a few minutes before check in time. The location, though not on the beach was still a good location and easy walk to the beach. The Bad, pretty much everything else. The unit was not cleaned very well and it was really ran down, as is the “resort” it’s located in. We had constant issues with the stove not working, no deadbolt lock on the door, just to name a few - and even though the host moved us to another unit there were still issues with the plumbing that were not addressed in the second unit, and even though it was cleaner than the first, it was still very poorly cleaned and ran down. The building was also evacuated numerous times, once late at night, due to an activated alarm. So we spent a lot of time in the parking deck since we couldn’t access our unit. There were numerous things concerning safety that I brought to the attention of the host and his response was I needed to be interviewed by the police, which I was willing to do. The host said he was going to send someone to the room to speak with me about the safety concerns but no one ever came to speak with me. I have to say this was the worst VRBO experience I have had. I would not recommend staying here.

In short: Clean hotel, but terrible and insufficient parking. The room was clean, and the water got very hot, which was nice for showers. The attendants at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. I didn't like how the pool/hot tub area was in the lobby. There was basically a glass wall around the pool area, making it its own separate room, in a way. There were people NOT in the pool area, but who were hanging out in the lobby watching people in the pool area. I found that to be very creepy. The horrendous parking was by far the worst part of the stay. When they painted the lines around the large support pillars in the parking garage, I think their intention was to not block/lose any parking spaces, but that attempt failed. The way the lines are painted in relation to the support pillars, you end up losing two parking spots, one on each side of the pillar. Then, even when there wasn't a pillar in the way, people would park over the line, making the spot next to them unusable (they should have been towed). It was especially bad at night. The later into the evening it got, the less likely it was that you would be able to find a parking spot. I'm not exaggerating when I say we drove around for at least 20 minutes, up and down the levels in the parking garage, before calling the hotel to complain, and find out what we were supposed to do because we obviously didn't want to drive around the parking garage all night. Only then were we made aware of the parking next door.

Needs work

I have stayed at this property before, and for the price it is great for a small getaway with kids. This time however, when we entered the floor was dirty and had sand everywhere. I know we're at the beach, but the rooms are supposed to be cleaned. The next morning I called the from desk at 0700 to request a vaccuum and mop to do the cleaning myself After 45 minutes of walking around the condo me and my toddlers feet were black.. At 0745 I asked again and just gave up asking. I took a towel from the pool and walked around the entire condo cleaning up the floor. The range cabinets above the microwave were so dirty that I took my finger, wiped grease off. I went ahead and cleaned that as well. It makes me wonder what else is that dirty in the condo that I couldn't visually see. We will not be visiting Ocean Keys again. Cleanliness is more of a priority than the cost of a rental for a small vacation.

Very nice location!

Overall, it’s an OK place for a stay. The building shows its age. The one bedroom units have an amazingly small kitchen and a big bedroom. Staff is very nice. The property offers recycling which was appreciated. Location is great, it is across the street from Waterman’s, one of the best seafood restaurants in Virginia Beach!

Not what I expected!

Pictures do amazing things until reality hits! My idea of a RESORT suffered vastly from this hotel which was short staff making for a frazzled1 person registrar. We only stayed 3 days with problems each day: broken elevator, broken hot tub, then awakened by testing alarms. I also wondered the reason that the listing didn't show pics outside of the bedroom...I learned that there's not much to show. It was not what we expected but being the family that we are we made it work!

Great visit

Nice clean property with kitchenette. Lots of practical amenities. Wish the TV was Smart. Had view of ocean and harbor, even though no balcony. Could use a full length closet or hi hook in bedroom as we were in town for a wedding. Overall give it a 9 for what it is: close to beach and great food and very quiet bedroom.

Overall the space was as advertised, although smaller than it looked in the pictures. The listing of a “full kitchen” was misleading. There was no oven, limited utensils, and no skillet.

It's an average to a simple place. I do feel like in the building people cut corners to make it appear nice. Staff is 50/50 pending on who you talk to. elevators didnt work, some hallways smelled, and The card system the use is a bit older. Key fobs needed to b reset a lot. For the money spent could have had a better experince at other location. I will say having resturants in walking distance along with the beach is nice. the rooms where ok. nothing flashy

Our stay

I could point out a lot of cleanliness issues for the property but I won’t, I’ll just talk about the biggest one I encountered and that was the floor of the condo and it was absolutely filthy !!! I will also take time to complain about the parking structure which had way too many spaces that couldn’t fit normal sized vehicles ! Also the pool basically being located in the front office is a horrible idea !! all in all our stay there was fine we spent majority of the time out and about
