About this property

Mowat Cabin - Miska Haven - Serenity on the Shuswap River in North Okanagan

Nestled in the woods, Mowat Cabin is an ideal setting for solo, couple and group retreats, or a home base for you and your family or friends to enjoy all that nature has to offer in the surrounding area. The cabin sleeps up to four in a open loft queen bed and main floor double sofa bed (linens and bath towels provided), and comes with a small bathroom and shower. The kitchen is equipped with a standard sink, hot & cold tap water, mini frig, gas-fired stove (no oven), toaster, kettle and coffee maker, and all the basic cooking and eating utensils for a "better-than-glamping" experience. Complete with a high ceiling and multiple screened windows, you will feel embraced by the warmth of the sun and the shade of the forest. Come soak up the beauty of the Shuswap River... enjoy a morning sunrise on the deck, a midday fish, swim or float from the dock, and an evening campfire along the shore! With 1800 feet of riverfront and 15 acres of woods, there is no shortage of nature to enjoy on our property. Located just 10 minutes east of Enderby on the north-south Okanagan corridor, 40 minutes south of the TransCanada Hwy halfway between Vancouver and Calgary, and an hour from Kelowna's international airport, we welcome travelers from far and wide. Whether you are looking for a quiet weekend, an extended vacation, or want to plan a romantic getaway, wedding, family reunion, or gathering of friends, Miska Haven is the perfect setting.

Accommodations consist of two private units - a cabin and a yurt - nestled in the woods, set back from the river and secluded from our home. With a booking of either unit, guests may inquire directly to book RV/trailer/tent sites at an extra charge. The cabin is pet-free to accommodate other guests with allergies; cabin guests' pets are allowed on the property but must be kenneled outside. Pets are welcome to stay in the yurt for a fee but must be accompanied at all times. Guests share access to a gazebo, firepit, picnic tables, pond and dock; the river is accessible from the dock for swimming, fishing, tubing, kayaking or canoeing.

The Okanagan is renowned for its orchards, cideries, breweries and wineries, as well as a host of outdoor activities...
- swimming/tubing/boating/fishing on the Shuswap River or nearby lakes
- hiking Enderby Cliffs or Rose Swanson Trails
- road biking from our doorstep, mountain biking on the Okanagan Rail Trail or at Silver Star Mountain Resort
- golf at one of 7 courses within 30 minutes
- nordic skiing at Larch Hills or Sovereign Lake, alpine skiing at Silver Star, Big White, Revelstoke, or Sun Peaks

Comfort, convenience and beauty on the Shuswap
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Mowat Cabin at Miska Haven, from the warm welcome we received from our host on check-in, to our last morning waking up in a comfortable bed and gazing out at the river. Highly recommended.

Paradise Found
We had a marvelous time at Miska Haven B&B! The cabin is cozy, clean and comfortable, with thoughtful homey touches throughout that take your stay to the next level. Diane & Dave are friendly and helpful hosts, and the delicious breakfast option was filled with fresh homemade delights. When we weren't enjoying the stunning view of the Shuswap River, we were kayaking and paddle boarding, hiking, and relaxing on the riverbank. We highly recommend Miska Haven B&B to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation in BC!

Weekend getaway
The location of this property is amazing. Very peaceful with the forest around you and the river in front of you. Diane communicated clearly and made us feel welcome. The cabin was very clean and above expectation. We loved it and would recommend a longer stay as we regret to only book two nights.

About the host

Host profile image
The owners and your hosts at Miska Haven are Diane and Dave Quinn, who recently retired and moved to the Okanagan from Calgary. They were captivated by the property when they first saw it and feel blessed to now call it home. Having also just married in 2018, they are adjusting to their new life together and learning the ropes of maintaining a rural property and running a B&B. Lots of fun and misadventures along the way – or perhaps we should call them “MISKA-dventures“!

Diane and Dave are keen skiers, hikers, cyclists, golfers, paddlers and swimmers, so they have come to the right place! In their first year at Miska Haven, they were swimming regularly in the river (including a Polar Bear Plunge on Jan 1st), paddling and tubing the river, hiking the Enderby Cliffs, biking the backroads, and skiing downhill and cross-country. The opportunities are endless!

Why they chose this property

Diane has family roots in the Okanagan which date back to the early 1900’s, so it’s not surprising she feels at home here. Her maternal great grandparents (James & Pauline Mowat) moved from New Brunswick to Enderby in 1905 to start a sawmill at Mara. Just four years later, at age 14, her grandfather, Patrick Mowat, began his banking career with the Bank of Montreal in Enderby, which remains on Cliff Ave. Patrick trained for the military in the Enderby Drill Hall where Diane and Dave now do yoga! Diane’s mother recounts her father’s memories and how he often spoke about his younger years growing up out west “in God’s country.” Seems fitting for Diane and Dave to name the property Miska Haven as they discovered that, in Hebrew, the name Miska means “Gift from God.”
