About this property

Big Sky Firehouse. Sleeps 20

Welcome to the old Big Sky Firehouse, located in The Meadows of Big Sky Montana, within walking distance of Town Center. The character of this property is enhanced because a portion of it was once the Big Sky Volunteer Fire Station. Of course the fire poles and trucks are gone, but the history of this property adds to it's charm. The property was moved and remodeled and a new addition was built to transform the 3,200 square foot home into the perfect lodging destination for your Big Sky vacation.

The first floor great room has a cathedral ceiling with a floor to ceiling stone fireplace. The room surrounds you with windows and mountain views. Don't be surprised if you wake up to a moose at your door in the morning. There have been plenty of moose sightings. The recently added custom drapes add to the ambience, and your privacy. An open kitchen with a breakfast bar, dining room, a laundry, three bedrooms with queen beds and two full baths complete the first floor. Climb the log steps to the loft where you will find one large bedroom with four single beds. A 2nd loft room has two single beds under one of the dormer windows, a queen bed under the other dormer window, a full bath and areas for lounging around, playing board games. The downstairs includes two more bedrooms, both with new twin over queen log bunk beds and another full bath. The covered patio off the great room includes a fabulous hot tub for working out the muscle pain of skiing or sore shoulders from a long day of fly fishing.

The property is conveniently located within minutes of Big Sky Ski Resort which now includes Moonlight Basin. Nearby are the private Spanish Peaks Club and Yellowstone Club. Fly fishing on pristine blue ribbon rivers like the Gallatin and Madison are nearby. Farther away (2+ hours) are the Henry's Fork, Beaverhead, and Big Hole. Shopping, restaurants and bars are located in Town Center across the street and are a short walk away. There are hundreds of miles of hiking and mountain bike trails in the area. The west gate to Yellowstone National Park is less than an hour away and of course the City of Bozeman is within an hour drive as well.

Two car garage with remote openers are for guest use.

We would love to have you stay at The Firehouse. Make your reservation today!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Firehouse. House is centrally located and we had plenty of room for our group of 10. Beds, hot tub, guest instructions, location, all 5 star.

Great stay in an ideal location

We were in Big Sky for a skiing trip as a group of 10 friends. The house was more than large enough for the full group and had everything we needed for a great stay. The location was proximate to shops, bars, and restaurants while also being a 15min drive to the fantastic Big Sky resort. Mark was extremely responsive in any questions we had.

Great location

We were very happy with this home. To be honest, I was a little concerned given how reasonably priced it was compared to other properties of the same size, but it exceeded our expectations. The house was clean, well equipped, and had tons of space. The loft area is great for a family with kids and we appreciated the three main floor bedrooms all being of comparable size with queen beds. It made it very easy to share the house with multiple families!

wonderful time

For our group of 14 people (myself, my three children and their families) the arrangement on three levels worked out perfectly. The home is well furnished, as expected. We saw a fox (morning around 7) across the street from the back porch, and saw a moose about one block away while stretching our legs. Wonderful experience.

Our Big Sky Vacation

We had a great stay in Big Sky. The house was perfect for our group of 16, was well supplied, and centrally located. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub, especially after hiking the many nearby trails. The community of Big Sky was great, although many places had not reopened for the summer. We did find groceries to be very expensive and followed the owner’s advice and did our big shopping in Bozeman. The surrounding scenery was really beautiful, and nearby Big Sky Resort was another fun place to visit. All and all it was a great visit. However, my only complaint was the slow response from the owner when booking, when we were ready to arrive, and then no response when I sent him my review of our stay and some things that needed repair.

Highly recommend the Big Sky Firehouse

In February 2016 ten of us stayed at this lovely house for a ski vacation. We've stayed in similar arrangements in Salt Lake City (multiple times), Jackson WY, Sun Valley ID and Banff AB. This house was the best, and also the best value. It's well situated, walking distance to the Big Sky "village" and about ten minutes' drive from the Big Sky ski hill. We were ten adults -- three couples and four singles. Everyone had their own space. (The place sleeps 16, but that would be more appropriate for a mix of kids and adults than for just adults.) A few highlights: well-stocked kitchen; wood-burning fireplace (so much better than gas); convenient hot tub for four to six adults; big open space that encompassed the kitchen (with bar stools), dining area, and living area; even a good washer and dryer. The owner, Rich, was very responsive and well-organized, including dining recommendations. As for the skiing, well, if you like Alta/Snowbird, Squaw, Jackson Hole etc. then Big Sky is very much in the same league. Except with no crowds, even on a February weekend. Big Sky bills itself as the biggest skiing in America and it is. In three days we didn't ski every lift, much less every run. Three of us also took a day to cross-country ski at the lovely and well-groomed Lone Mountain Ranch, which is just 0.5 miles away. The Ranch also has snowshoeing, a fine lunch, and evening sleigh rides and dinners (which five of us went on and quite enjoyed). If you have a late afternoon flight out of Bozeman, also consider a day wandering around downtown Bozeman (Nova cafe, Burger Bob's) or skiing at Bridger Bowl, which is about 30 minutes from the airport. Overall, this is the most positive review I've ever given.

Fall 2016 Retreat was a resounding success at the Big Sky Firehouse!

Wow! What a great "home base" from which to have our fall retreat. We had day trips to Yellowstone and the Museum of the Rockies, in Bozeman. There are many trails and hiking opportunities right out the door and Big Sky is a wonderful place to visit any time of year. The hot tub and a crackling fire were nice in the evenings after a big day out exploring nature. The home, itself, is lovely and well suited for a wide variety of ages and physical requirements (easy to access bedrooms/bathrooms on every level) and we had pinochle games going every night in the upstairs lounging area! We are all big readers and there are plenty of "flop" spots for cozy reading and/or quiet conversation. The living room was well appointed and comfy for our group bible discussions. As a group we rotate cooking and the kitchen was not only laid out well--open and conducive to work and conversation--but it was well furnished for the variety of dishes we made. That is actually a rare thing to find in a rental, usually there are no decent knives or cooking utensils, so take note if you like to cook. One can tell that the Sellman family actually uses this home and the kitchen tools are there to prove it. Speaking of the owners, Rich was very easy to work with and made sure that we had everything we needed to have an enjoyable time and a seamless transition in and out of the house. We do this retreat every year and have for over 30 years. We have had the blessing of staying in rental homes/facilities all over the world and without a doubt the Big Sky Firehouse is in our top ten as far as spacious, clean, comfortable accommodations and overall group compatibility and enjoyment. We would certainly like to stay here again as there are more trails to explore, sights to see and big lunker fish to catch. Thank you again for the opportunity to stay in this home, we hope to do business with you again in the future! Have a great year :-) p.s. Thank you for the restaurant recommendations! On the nights no one felt like cooking it was sure nice to get out and enjoy the variety of cuisine available even though it wasn't "peak" Big Sky season. And, this will sound funny, but the Big Sky ACE hardware was pretty cool...the Henckel display alone!!

Disappointing

We have stayed in at least 20 VRBO, in Breckenridge twice, Telluride, Park City, Charleston, Glacier, Aspen 12 times and in Italy, so I have plenty of comparisons for this review. (I actually give this 2.5 stars, but my average review is ~4.8 stars!) This house has the potential to be a very good rental, but it needs some serious work. The garage is full of new cabinets and some used furniture, so it appears as if the owners have a plan. They need a designer and they need to spend some money on the home! The positives: location to the Meadow Village, good cleaning crew, and lots of bedrooms. The negatives: the furnishings - everything is old, dated and mismatched - it looks like they sent 20 people to secondhand stores with instructions to buy brown furniture. *The carpets desperately need cleaning! *There is WAY too much furniture upstairs (in the ~ 400 sq ft loft there are 2 sofas, 2 love seats and a large sectional, a queen bed, 2 twins, 2 coffee tables, several chests, several floor lamps, several end tables, an armoire AND the ceiling is only above 6' down the middle 4' of the room. *There is a separate bedroom upstairs that has 4 twins (2 completely different sets). This room could be cute as a kids' room but now it's just forlorn. *The mattresses in the 3 main level bedrooms all squeak with any movement - not good for sleep. *The kitchen is poorly equipped. There are 5 glasses and 8 plastic cups. (There are a few wine glasses and mugs.) And again, all are mismatched. Is it that hard to buy a set of glasses at Walmart?? There are a total of 8 forks. With the exception of 2, all the pots & pans need to be thrown out. A big deal is made that this place can sleep 16, but the kitchen can't feed them! *The downstairs has two bedrooms, one with a huge king log bed & twin bunk above. The ceilings are ~7' downstairs so anyone over 4' tall will hit their heads on the ceiling if they sit up in bed! Anyone sleeping in the king below, will hit their head because the boxspring and mattress leave about 18" clearance. The other bedroom has an unassembled bed which appears to be another log bunk. There were some maintenance issues that I contacted the agency about after we left, the most serious was the grease trap on gas grill had not been cleaned resulting in a fire that took 10 minutes to go out, with the grill lid closed. Unfortunately, there is nothing about this house that makes the renter feel welcomed, valued or appreciated. Do not recommend.
