About this property

cosy, fireplace, outdoor bath

The Retro Retreat is a self-contained holiday house in the heart of the quaint little town of Forrest. A real little gem with a very relaxed vibe it is a lovely place to get away and soak up the Otway Ranges with plenty of activities for all ages to enjoy.
The location is a short stroll to the Forrest Brewery & General Store and very close to the Southern MTB Trailhead making it the perfect location for a mountain bikers weekend away.
For those not into biking there are plenty of other options. Bushwalks around Lake Elizabeth to see the platypus, the Barwon Dam, nearby waterfalls or simply relax on the deck or in front of the fire with a good book.
The house is spacious with a definite retro theme to its interior. Comprising of two bedrooms, dining room, lounge room, kitchen, bathroom and separate toilet. A large balcony extends along the back of the house with seating and a gas BBQ.
The deck overlooks the large backyard and beyond to the hills and dam. Ducks wander up daily and many native birds nest in the trees.
We have added a lovely outdoor bath for you to enjoy the beauty of the night sky whilst soaking your bones listening to the sounds of the night.
A fire pit and seating complete the yard and make for a great night outdoors when the weather permits.
Please note this fire pit is not available during summer or when fire bans are enforced in this area. There is also a pump track for honing the skills or for the kids entertainment.

Cute, cosy, close to town
The property had everything we needed and was very close to the shops and brewery. Beautiful yard with lots of seating options. It really feels like a home away from home. We will be back.

Great views from deck. Kitchen is practical and has the minor bits and pieces. The fireplace is great as is the outdoor bath, best bath of my life!

Relaxing, peaceful Forrest stay
We enjoyed our stay! Clean house, welcomed warmth of the fire pit outside as well as the option for fireplace inside stocked with wood, or the reverse cycle on the wall. Enclosed yard for the dogs (though our little dogs managed to dig a space under the side gate and joined some young fellas from town on their bike ride!!) Facilities were great and a variety of fun things to do in the area to keep family entertained (beach or bushwalking options + Otway treetop walk). Would stay again!! Thanks : )

thanks
A slight mix up to begin with, however our host Phoebe couldn't have assisted us more. Very apologetic and very generous and courteous. The cottage was very homely and had all the little extras that just make it so enjoyable & comfortable. Thanks to Phoebe mainly as she made the whole experience as pleasant as possible at all times. We couldn't recommend Phoebe and Retro retreat high enough.

Retro a mixed blessing
We really enjoyed the overall experience of the property. Sadly the double bed was less than comfortable and the air conditioner on this side of the house did not really work well leaving us hot and bothered on our first night. Very well stockcked pantry cheered us up a little. We were much happier when the weather cooled down.

I grew up in the country in northern Victoria with a fun and loving family. We lived on a citrus farm near the river so spent most of our time outside either climbing trees, riding bikes, swimming in the river or picking fruit for pocket money. I moved into the city later to study and have travelled to many amazing places in the world.
I now live on the surf coast with my lovely man, 2 young sons and border collie pup. We recently moved here after living in the Dandenong Ranges where I fell in love with the forest and all the refreshing air and energy that it brings.
I previously worked in festivals and events and then moved into landscaping and really enjoy providing and creating spaces for people to enjoy themselves. I am now involved in Farmers Markets both managing markets as well as selling my parents delicious citrus.

Why they chose this property

My beautiful man and I decided we needed a house in the forest again, we found this lovely little house and instantly fell in love, it's cosiness and 'retro' vibe took me straight back to my childhood holidays. We love riding around in the forest with our boys who are keen mountain bikers. Lake Elizabeth is just a stunning walk to satisfy our love of nature also. The rural outlook, the privacy and the proximity to the local Brewery, General store and a kids mountain bike track playground ticked all the boxes for us to find our piece of paradise.

What makes this property unique

The Retro Retreat is so cosy with low roofs and a real cabin vibe. The fireplace in the loungeroom is heaven after a hard day exploring or relaxing! The retro theme brings back wonderful memories of my childhood that instantly brings me into holiday mode as soon as I walk in the door.
