My worst VRBO experience so far
Of my ten plus stays at VRBO's over the years, this was by far the worst stay I have had. It started when the owner texted the welcome information and asked me to park on the right hand side of the driveway when I showed up. When I arrived, there was a car already parked on the right hand side. I found parking and then proceeded to access the studio but couldn't open the gate (a previous visitor experienced a similar issue) to get in. I rang the door bell but received no answer. I tried the gate again but couldn't open it. I then called the owner but received no answer. I did leave a message stating my issues with the gate. I went to grab some dinner and texted the owner hoping to get a response. Nothing. I continued to wait and after two hours of getting no response and not being able to access the studio I drove to a nearby hotel to secure a room. I finally got a call back from the owner explaining how to open the gate. I returned to the house and was able to get into the studio. I greatly appreciated that he had set up a portable AC unit because it was extremely hot during my stay. The AC unit was vital in keeping the unit cool, but also masking the noise from upstairs. This is a basement studio and you can hear people walking around upstairs at all hours of the day and night. In fact, on both nights of my stay, when I had turned the AC unit off, I was awakened at 2:00 am with noise from upstairs. On the second morning wake up someone dropped something quite loud right above my head. If you are a light sleeper like me, this is NOT the place for you. In addition, the bed is a NOT a queen and cannot sleep two unless you are quite small. The wifi password that was provided was incorrect and there was no (cable) TV service as stated. Bottom line: there was a lot of misinformation in the information stated about this property. It is clean and has all of the amenities and because I wasn't there a whole lot, it was bearable. However, I would never stay here again and wouldn't recommend this to any future travelers.

Cute, but noisy
This place was adorable, priced right, and in a nice location. However, I have 2 complaints. 1. The bed is NOT a queen, it's a full. My husband is over 6 and a half feet tall, so this was definitely a problem. I would never have booked here if I had known it wasn't at least a queen. 2. It was noisy. Every time someone used water upstairs, we could hear it downstairs in the basement.

A comfy stay with a caveat
I want to give this place 5 stars, I really do. The check-in process was seamless, the property contact is the sweetest man, and everything was clean and comfy. But if you plan to stay here there are a couple things you should be aware of. First, this is a basement unit which means you can hear a lot of what is going on upstairs. I was traveling with my infant and had our white noise machine cranked up to 11 during the night but when I was up with the baby for late night feedings (between midnight-2am) there was a lot of noise coming from upstairs. Voices, footsteps, something akin to the sound of heavy furniture being scooted across the floor? If we hadn’t had the white noise machine I don’t think either of us would have gotten much sleep. I also noticed a cigarette smoke smell coming through the vents in the middle of the night a couple of times. Second, I realize this is the Pacific Northwest and rain is common, but the unit smelled a bit mildewy upon arrival. It improved with the use of the portable a/c unit and some airing out, but not the most pleasant smell to live with. Lastly, the bed is SUPER comfy, but the mattress is wrapped in Saran Wrap, which I thought very odd. It makes a soft crinkly noise any time you move, and creates a sort of greenhouse effect when you’re sleeping (traps body heat and moisture leaving a damp feeling in the bed). Other than the above, the unit was super clean, all the amenities are there, and it is tastefully decorated. I also really appreciated the host’s availability and willingness to help me with my luggage while I struggled with the baby’s car seat.

small and noisy, but cheap and safe
I took a gamble on a cheap new rental with few reviews and I lost. Some things are bound to get better as the owners learn the process, but somethings can't be changed due to design of the house. I would not stay there again. The only good part was the host. He was very nice. He gave me his cell number and said I could text him 24/7 if there were any issues. Neighborhood seemed safe. Gate to house confusing to open. There should have been instructions sent on how to open it. The Wi-Fi password was wrong in the welcome info that was given to me. The bedding wasn't washed. At least the thin blanket on top of the bed hadn't but maybe the sheets had been. There was animal fur all over the blanket. There was still trash in the bathroom trashcan. Not a big deal but again it felt like maybe the unit hadn't been cleaned in between customers. The bed was uncomfortable. It is a mattress on wooden slates that creak. My back hurt when I woke up. FYI The bed is only a full size, not a queen. That might be an issue for some people. The unit above you has wood floors and there were several people walking around with shoes on. Very noisy so bring ear plugs. The water pipes are very loud when you or the upstairs people use the water. There is a couch that reclines a little for watching TV. That was nice. Be aware it is a small, love seat size and not big enough for someone to lay sideways on. The use of one parking spot in the driveway was good. Don't plan on being able to park on the street. It is very limited and rarely available. (But there would be no need for more than one car since the apartment is designed for a single person) The ad said "Step-free access". If you are older or unsteady be aware the access has a few steps. You park in the driveway (which is a such a steep incline that your door won't stay open on it's own), then you walk across grass, then gravel, then stepping stones down a slopped backyard. There is no hand railing and it can get wet and muddy with rain.

Great little place
This was a great little place for my three-day visit to my grandson. Very clean, and a great location in the Vancouver Washington area. All my needs were provided for, and I like the private little patio. Definitely would stay again. Ray has a wonderful place.
