About the host
Hosted by David Gibbs

We are your hosts - Helen and David Gibbs. We have lived and holidayed in Queenstown for decades. We are passionate about what Queenstown has to offer. We love waterskiing, mountain biking, skiing, snow boarding, fishing and walking our dog Eddie. We love dining out at our many favourite restaurants and wineries. We get a great kick out of sharing our house with our friends and for the last three years have enjoyed hosting guests at our beautiful Shimmerlake. We set out to make each stay a 5-star experience. Our guests tell us we are doing OK with that.
Why they chose this property
We had a family holiday house ( "Crib" in local talk) at Arrowtown. Our parents would tow our home built water ski boat over to Kelvin Grove (the bay just below us) for us all to to waterski as a family. Our careers took us to Auckland in later years, but we always new we would return to live here. So many great memories of long summer days by the lake, so many more memories being made.
What makes this property unique
Shimmerlake feels "perched" over the lake so that you have a real connection to it and it is a wonderful grandstand to view the boating on the lake.
It is always so warm and inviting on our side of the lake. The other side, closer to town is usually in shade and can be very cold. We can be in town in just seven minutes using the water taxi or 15 - 20 minutes by car, so we feel we get the best of both worlds.
Our neck of the woods is so well served by amazing cycle and walking trails and we have the golf course just a few minutes walk away.
You will see for yourselves where the Shimmerlake name comes from - the lake sparkles and is very uplifting.
And on top of that, as the architect/owner for the house I have made sure that the house is exactly what we want. I hope it is what you want too.
