LOCATION - 7 blocks south of Main Street
HOSTS - Home to yourselves , but there are other guesthouses to rent on the property
SLEEPS - Up to 4 people; 1 king bedroom & 1 queen bedroom
BATH - 1 bath; large spa tub and separate walk-in shower
KITCHEN - Well-equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, stove/oven, and Keurig coffeemaker
AMENITIES - Smart TV (guest's need to bring their own login information for apps), WiFi, outdoor seating area

CHILDREN - YES

DOGS- YES (Up to 2 dogs that are each less than 30 lbs)

The house does accept up to two dogs but we ask that each is 30 lbs or less. In addition, there is an additional pet fee of $22/pet/night (before tax). Furthermore, we ask that you do not allow the dogs on the beds or furniture, property dispose of their waste, and do not allow them on the furniture or beds. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation.

The house is cute, comfortable beds and living room couch. Nice size kitchen and large bathroom. They had a coffee pot but no tea kettle or small pot to heat tea. The reason for 4 stars was it was on a major road and you can hear the road noise. There was also a very busy restaurant next door. My bedroom was next to the restaurant and Main road. Thankfully, I had packed a noise machine which helped some. I totally missed it, but did not have a washer, dryer or dishwasher. These are common in every house I have ever rented so just didn’t think about it. It rained so drying wet clothes before packing would have been nice.

We enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect; the house is ideal for a small family or even for a couple. The bathroom is super spacious, and in general, everything is very comfortable.

We enjoyed the cute yellow house! Location was great and we were very comfortable! We couldn’t get the tv to work but other than that it was as perfect!

We needed handicap access and Althea was a nice place to stay. The walk in shower and large rooms provided access. I loved the supplies provided from bathroom to cooking, it made it a nice home away from home. We did not know the house was on a major road thru town but we closed doors and rarely heard the traffic at night. Everything was clean. The water for the coffee needed a new filter. It would be helpful to add a horizontal bar in the shower on the side opposite the area to walk in and a bar at the side of the toilet. You would not be able to claim ADA assessable due to the door thresholds, but we were able to get over the humps. When we come again, we will definitely see if Althea is available.

Super cute home, easy access to everything Fredericksburg has to offer. Next door to a restaurant. Comfy couch, perfect size for me, my spouse and one of my friends. Favorite part: the bathroom. Thank you for having local soaps and lotions, we had to go shopping for some on our way home!

This house was fantastic and perfect for our needs! My mom and I were in town for a bachelorette party, but stayed separately from the group. The location is fantastic. It's possible to walk to Main St from the house; however, we chose to drive. It's very easy driving distance to the wineries off of 290. The house itself is so well-maintained and the decor is adorable! It has a really nice soaking tub and open shower. The retro appliances and kitchen is awesome! So fun! We appreciated the snacks they provided at check in too. It's shockingly quiet considering it's off the main road. I was actually in the front bedroom and slept great! Beds are extremely comfortable. The host communicated clearly with check in and check out instructions through VRBO's messaging. There's also a book with check in/out instructions and recommended restaurants/wineries. We would love to stay here again! Thank you so much!

I liked the home. Did not like location. Noisy street traffic and cafe next door. Some cafe customers parked in our parking lot. Also, at the cafe, either customers or employees stood around in the cafe’s parking lot after 10 pm and talked loudly.

Awesome Althea

This cozy cottage a few blocks off Main delivers the best combination of antiques, comfort & modern conveniences. We chose Althea because of the pet friendly option, which is excellent, but they offer so much more. Kitchen and bathroom are roomy with everything we needed. I appreciate that the towels, bath mat and robes are thick, luxurious high quality and beds are super comfy. They even left snacks! Very nice, highly recommend!

No receptacles worked in the tv room except tv. The lamp bulb was burned out. There needs to be a small lamp in entry hall for evening arrival. The bathrobes in bathroom should have been white and they looked not clean and including white kitchen towel that wasn’t white anymore. On street so property was noisey, it was accommodating for us as we didn’t spend much time there.

Sweet and Spacious

Althea is one of four lovely houses at Halo's Garten, closest to the excellent restaurant next door Emma & Ollie's. Rooms offer lots of space to move about, nicely decorated, colorful and comfortable. Well-appointed. Comfortable beds. Soaking, whirlpool, deep tub is a plus. Enjoyed outdoor gathering space in back though my mother swept and cleaned the table before we discovered its charms. No seating on front porch is disappointing. Though located on Washington St, this is generally quiet except for trucks in daytime when guests are usually out and about. Walking next door for breakfast or brunch a plus. We did not care for Krups and would have appreciated water or plain glasses. Only stems and cups provided. Very clean, fresh. Curtains offer privacy but can be pulled back for lots of light and sheers appreciated. A little TLC on grounds and outside would put this over the top. Yes, we would certainly return. This was second stay at Halo's Garten. Last time as a couple we loved the Larkspur. A hidden gem.

A pleasant spot

A fine old-fashioned house—tidy and convenient to the town center. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen had most of what we needed. Only disappointment: no oven or stove top (just a microwave). The TV could use an upgrade (or perhaps the TV remote). The TV showed the icons for Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other streaming services, but even the computer savvy in our group were never able to actually select and open a streaming service. The breakfast restaurant next door is tops—but beware of the crowds. We recommend going early.

BIG PLUS is they allow your fur babies! We stayed during a cold spell in February. May have been the first time the heater really ran, because it blew a LOT of dust into the house which made it uncomfortable to breath (allergies really kicked in). If you are over 6' tall and 200lbs, the shower is WAY too small for you and so is the tiny toilet... Road noise from the highway was significant. Has less privacy than we were hoping for.
