This 18th century wine farmhouse has been completely redesigned and decorated in 2008 by a Danish designer with a passion for contemporary design (more information available on our easy to find page by typing Le Mas des Akènes in Cairanne). You will open the doors of a harmonious, clean and soothing. Chocolate tones, gray, taupe edged with bright white with a minimalist and elegant decor, fine materials and uncompromising comfort.

Mas des Akènes, with its park of 24. 000m2 and no neighbors, nestled in the vineyards of Comtat Venaissin, is above all a place of relaxation lulled by the song of cicadas and the hot breath of the wind in the foliage of the old plane trees (children are not allowed for security reasons) ...

This magical place is dedicated to lovers of nature, arts and wine. Lying in the pool, enjoy a wonderful view of the lace of Montmirail, Mont Ventoux, Gigondas but also world famous for its wines.

Le Mas is also conveniently located within ten minutes of the centers of culture in Provence. Orange and its Chorégies, Avignon and its festival, Vaison-la-Romaine, a city of contemporary dance ... And less than an hour, L'Isle sur la Sorgue and its antique shops or Gordes and Lacoste.

You will choose to stay at the Mas des Achenes in one of two luxury cottages of 60m2 - The Loft Suite or the Achenes of Achenes...

Paradise!

We loved staying at Mas des Akenes. It is the most wonderful property, superbly landscapes, amid the Cotes du Rhone vineyards. The gite was fine - well-equipped and very comfortable. Eating out, beside the pool, with Mount Vaucluse in the background, was magical. Cairanne was a nice place, within easy walking of the gite (by quiet country roads or randonnes), and visiting the Domaine Richaud winery for tasting was a highlight. The hosts were delightful, and helpful. We'd love to return!

Nous avons passé une semaine parfaite au Mas d’Akènes! La propriété est très belle et la suite est joliment décorée. Un havre de calme et de paix ! We spent two 2 weeks in the suite (2 bedrooms) of this comfortable and well equipped house. The location is impressive and surrounded by beautiful nature and wineyards with gorgeuos views to the nearby mountains of the Dentelles and the Mont Ventoux. Frederic and Christophe were taking care of everything and you could see that they love their home. Unfortunately the weather in early may was a little to fresh and windy to use the huge swimming pool, but I am sure you will enjoy it in summer. We can absolutely recommend this place and hope to come back again.

Absolutely gorgeous

This year was our second stay with Frederic and Christophe, after we fell in love with the property last year. We returned with the highest of expectations, which were created due to our stay last year. It blew our expectations away! This year they added a poolhouse which makes the perfect location even more perfect! The location is breathtaking. It is in the middle of wine-country, situated in between the midst of the grapevines. It has a spectacular view of Mont Ventoux and has nothing other than complete peace and quiet! A perfect place to stay and enjoy the sun, the pool and of course the area and its wines! The house itself was to our exact taste, as it is designed with a modern taste, very well executed to our opinion. We stayed in both the Loft and the Suite, and both are great! But what is more important is the outside where you will still most of the time, which is amazing. Like I said, nothing but peace and quiet to get away from it all by the pool or in the poolhouse, or to take a stroll through their vinyard. The owners are just the nicest people you will meet, and will always be open for questions, tips, a small talk, but also very much respect your privacy. The region is great, with Cairanne as a nice quaint little village. For a bit more to do, go to Vaison la Romaine which has a market once a week (do not miss!!). And of course all of the wineries in the neighbourhood, with Chateauneuf-du-Pape as the main attraction. Visit this little village, but also the vinyards in the surroundings. In conclusion, Mas Akenes has reset the benchmark for us, and we will definitely stay as a recurring guest! Cant wait till next year!

Ideale bestemming voor al wie van rust houdt. Prachtig gelegen met fantastisch uitzicht. Het huis ligt wat afgelegen(dus geen andere huizen eromheen), doch dicht bij het dorp! De gastheren wonen er ook maar zijn héél discreet, sympathiek en behulpzaam. De kamers en keuken beantwoorden volledig aan de beschrijving en zijn heel netjes. Een perfecte ligging als uitvalsbasis om de regio te bezoeken!

An amazing place!

This is a place that you would like to keep secret from the rest of te world! The apartment (loft) is perfect, spacious, well maintained, nicely styled, there is everything you need. The garden is really big with lovely 360 degree views at vineyards, olive trees and the mountains. In the area there is lots to see and do, the Vaucluse has lots to offer. Frederic and Christophe are wonderful hosts. We definetely would like to come back again!

Beautiful getaway in Cairanne

I booked La Suite at Les Mas de Akenes as part of a month-long journey through France and Italy for wine education. The location is perfect for touring wine villages in Provence and the southern Rhone (Vacqueras, Gigondas, Chateauneuf du Pape, etc. are all within about a 30 minute drive). The Cote Rotie (northern Rhone area) is about a 90 minute drive, so a very easy day trip. La Suite is exactly as described in the listing, and the property is very clean and maintained impeccably. Kitchen was stocked sufficiently with pots/pans/utensils/dishes for cooking, but you'll need to purchase all food items, including basic staples (e.g., salt, pepper, olive oil, etc.) if you want to cook. Not a big deal for us, since we were on an extended journey, but just something to note for reference. Bedrooms were lovely - comfortable linens and beds, and lots of storage space. There isn't a cozy common area with a sofa or chairs inside La Suite - there are tables in the kitchen and on the patio, and several padded lounge chairs outside - but the weather was beautiful while we were there, so the lounge chairs were perfect for relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine. The view of the sunset from the pool was simply breathtaking! Frederic and Christophe are wonderful and accommodating hosts. The check-in/check-out processes were very easy, and they provided lots of helpful recommendations and directions for restaurants, grocery shopping, etc. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Les Mas de Akenes to friends or colleagues visiting Provence or the Rhone Valley, and will most certainly stay there again should I be lucky enough to have my travels take me back that way again. Merci beaucoup!

Le mas est situé dans un site splendide entouré de vignes et de lavande, avec un immense jardin offrant une vue panoramique sur les alentours. Il est équipé de tout le confort permettant d'y passer un séjour agréable et reposant. Les propriétaires sont charmants, très accueillants et d'une discrétion remarquable. Grâce à leurs suggestions, nous avons vraiment profité de la région, entre détente et découverte…. Un seul regret: nous aurions aimé pouvoir rester plus longtemps dans cet endroit que nous recommandons vivement.
