A special place for families or couples looking for a memorable holiday, or musicians, writers and artists looking for inspiration. Live in a beautiful quiet country house. Catch sunrise and sunset views from the decks and don't forget your camera! Experience total relaxation with the colorful garden, friendly wildlife, birdsong, fresh air. Ruddle's Retreat is the perfect choice for a surprise romantic weekend.
We are very children and pet friendly.
Ruddle's Retreat has a lovely welcoming feel as soon as you enter the property. The atmosphere is deliberately not meticulous, though the house is always presented very clean and tidy, and we are proud of that. There are no signs telling you how to save water or what not to put down the loo! I travel extensively, and I know there's nothing nicer than opening the door and instantly feeling at home.
Guests have use of the whole house except locked cupboards and the shed.
Ruddle's is also advertised on other web sites so please be patient while we double check your requested dates against the calendars. We will generally respond with a confirmation well within 24 hours though.
It doesn't get much better. Ruddle's Retreat sits on top of a hill in a very quiet, beautiful, peaceful and neighborhood friendly lane.
A friendly local taxi service is available. Popular venues are Shotgun, Sarah's Unplugged, Old Bank Cafe and Finbar. There are plenty of great restaurants to try out. There's even a brewery in town. Don't miss the aviary tour at the Botanical Gardens.
Ruddle's Retreat has been a holiday house for our guests for 10 years. Over 60% of our guests are returning guests, and some still return every year.
Ruddle's Retreat can provide a venue for small quieter marquee weddings, corporate training sessions, yoga and meditation days, or 'sensible' events for up to 60 guests. We have a built in SONOS / Spotify sound system on the deck, surround sound and basic Foxtel in the lounge and free unlimited internet access. There's even a piano. Please.. Smoking inside the house is not permitted at all. Smoking outside is fine but cigarette butts do not enhance the beauty of garden, grow into trees or get eaten by parrots. It's a fantastic help if all the used linen is left in the downstairs bath but we totally understand if you didn't really want to leave and just ran out of time.
Please feel at home and enjoy your stay here.

Quiet and relaxing in a beautiful setting (cows and fields and rolling hills). The house is very well appointed, comfortable and clean with a wide porch. And comfy bed! Close to restaurants and points of local interest. We'll be back!
What a beautiful setting for a peaceful Christmas. The thoughtful touch of a Christmas tree made it very special. We thoroughly enjoyed our family time at Ruddle’s Retreat .
We completely loved the contrast to our city life in this beautiful home, still close enough to town for the odd supply , but the property is hard to leave. Highly recommend this place & we look forward to coming back again .
We had an awesome stay with our dog at Ruddle’s the last 4 days. It was exactly as we were expecting. The location is so peaceful and private, yet close to town. The house had everything we needed for our stay, and we really appreciated the toys etc that were provided for our dog. A big thank you to Stuart for letting us move our booking back a week due to cyclone Alfred. Great host with great communication. We will definitely be booking Ruddle’s again.Tony, Fiona, and Hector
The house, garden, location, views and everything else was just so perfect! I can’t fault our stay here. I loved everything about the property. Will be back soon!
A wonderful property in a great location. We enjoyed playing in the garden (kids on the swing and the dog running around), chilling out on the deck taking in the beautiful views and relaxing in front of the fire.
We loved our stay and will definitely return.
We all loved our stay. Such a beautiful home, We would have loved to know the history of the property.

Ruddles Retreat was built about 30 years ago by a chap called Bruce, who was at the time, an Anset airline captain. He brought his family up in the house before moving back to Brisbane. I found the house for sale about 10 years ago. The retired couple selling it found the garden too much for them and moved into Maleny. I set the house up for holidays. About 5 years ago, a young chap arrived on a motorcycle asking about staying there.. he turned out to be Bruce's son. He bought himself, his wife and mum and dad, who built the house, to stay for a weeks holiday. Bruce also planted all of the trees. I have a photo of the garden as an empty field back in the days.. I hope you'll make it back for another stay before long, it's a beautiful spot. Cheers, Stuart.
Just out of Malent town so quiet and private but convenient. Lovely property, we have been several times and always enjoyed a log fire in the lovely lounge. Coffee on front veranda in the morning for sunrise and the back deck in the afternoon for the sun!
The property is so beautiful and private and the location is perfect. It is far enough away from town to feel secluded but close enough for when you need.

Everything and More
Stayed 3 nights over May Long Weekend. The location was excellent, only a few klms from Maleny. Outstanding views, very peaceful and serene. The house felt like home when you walked through the doors. Bedrooms were great, very comfortable and cosy. Everything you could wish for and more was provided. Highly recommended.

How's the Serenity!!!
It was a lovely property to spend some time relaxing at. The outlook was gorgeous & our dog enjoyed running around the large gardens. All the basics we could possibly require to make our stay comfortable were provided & the house was perfectly clean on arrival. A few attention to detail things such as more current property information and replacing the worn bath towels with holes in and it would have been a 5 star review for sure!

We spent Australia Day long weekend there when ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald paid us a visit an cut our power and running water off for 2 days but because of the way the cottage is setup we probably had one of the best times together as a family just enjoying each others company for entertainment so it ended up being an unforgettable getaway. Will recommend this cottage an probably return to experience it in normal Qld Sunshine.
