About this property

Charming 2 bedroom cottage steps from Nature Park

This private, charming cottage in a rural setting is a five minute drive to downtown Courtenay and minutes from local beaches. The cottage offers easy access to all the world class recreation the Comox Valley has to offer, with over 40 kilometers of forested hiking trails steps from your door and Mount Washington ski resort a 30 minute drive away. Park trails can take you all the way to the ocean on foot or by bike.
The cottage is 960 square feet with fir hardwood flooring throughout. The covered front porch is the perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning. There is a shed next to the cottage for secure storage of bikes and skis. The main floor has an open concept living and dining area with a natural gas Vermont Castings stove for cooler days. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals for your group, including sharp knives and a full size propane barbeque. A high chair, toddler chair, Pack and Play, and baby gate are available for your smaller family members. We also have a well-loved trail stroller that we are happy to loan! We offer a number of coffee making options, including a stove top espresso maker, French press, and Keurig coffee maker. A full size washer and dryer are located beside the kitchen and the full bathroom is accessed through the master bedroom or through the laundry/pantry area. The main floor bedroom has a new Casper memory foam mattress, down duvet, and black out curtains.
Upstairs is a large loft for relaxing, with two single mattresses, a smart tv, games and books. The upstairs bedroom has a new Casper memory foam mattress, black out blinds, and a spacious work area. The upper floor has a full height ceiling in the center that tapers down to create a cozy atmosphere. Local artwork and vintage touches throughout the cottage reflect decades of collecting by one of your hosts, including a full set of colourful Fiesta dishes and vintage wool blankets and throws.
As your hosts, we love to share our favourite things about our home town! The Comox Valley (The city of Courtenay, town of Comox, and village of Cumberland) is a recreational paradise with access to ocean beaches, rivers, forests and mountains. Alpine and Nordic skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, and golfing are all just minutes away. The area offers an amazing array of culinary options, including the famous Comox Valley Farmers Market, local craft breweries, wineries and distilleries, an award-winning cheese producer, independent restaurants, and food trucks. Explore the shops on 5th Street in Courtenay and visit the vibrant mountain village of Cumberland to check out the works of local artisans. Depending on the season, have a look at our apiary and see the honeybees at work. Use the cottage as a home base for whale watching and other marine adventures on northern Vancouver Island.

A tranquil stay in nature
Martha and Jim's cottage is lovely and inviting. The whole place was very well maintained and immaculate. With 4 adults and 1 small child we had plenty of room to relax. Since we like to cook we are pleased to find the kitchen very well stocked. The whole cabin had everything we might need. Martha was such an excellent and attentive host. She had lots of great toys for my 4 year old. She is also a wonderful baker! We really enjoyed our time and we will definitely be back.

Wonderful vacation Cabin
Cabin was wonderful. Nicely appointed for our needs and in close proximity to bike trails and river swim holes. Daily visits from two local deer and a couple bunnies made for pleasant views out of the many windows. Not to mention some lovely fresh baked treats that were hand delivered. Highly recommend.

Vintage Cottage
This cottage, and the owners are amazing. The place was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything you could need, including very comfortable beds. Great walking trails are at your doorstep in Seal Bay Park. The hosts, Martha and Jim were super friendly, helpful and attentive, without being intrusive - Martha's home baked scones were the best we have ever tasted. It was a great central location to explore Comox Valley. We loved it and hope to come back again.

About the host

Host profile image
My husband, Jim, and I have lived in the Comox Valley for over thirty years and we love it here. I ran a small bakery out of our home for sixteen years, and sold my goods at the Comox Valley Farmers Market. In my forties, I went back to school to become an RN, working at our community hospital and at North Island College as a nurse educator before retiring in 2020. I'm an avid runner and biker, and enjoy spending time up in the mountains and scouring the local thrift stores. Jim worked for many years as a shellfish biologist, and now that he is retired spends time working with his honeybees and restoring his classic pickup truck. We love sharing our favourite valley spots and can help you plan a memorable visit.

Why they chose this property

The cottage shares our rural property but is set on its own private half acre. The space is bright and cheerful and comfortable for longer stays.

What makes this property unique

There is a Seal Bay Nature Park entrance steps from the property. The unpaved trails of the park weave through close to 1600 acres of coastal rain forest, covering an area one and a half times the size of Vancouver's Stanley Park! The largest loop of the park can be covered comfortably by bike in under an hour, while a walk to the beach and back would be a comfortable half day trip.
