Perfect for large family vacation!
Loved the open plan of the main floor with the wall of windows facing the lake. Plenty of room for a group of 20+. Lake was great for the children...easily accessible beach and wonderful pan fishing...even from the dock. Plan to return next year!
This was our second time renting the Forest Lodge property. There was plenty of room for our family group of 10 adults and 7 children under the age of 8. We especially like the top floor kitchen/great room area with a beautiful view over the lake. We plan on returning again.
Lots of great space for gathering on the main floor, great kitchen with lots of room to eat together and just hang out. Bedrooms in basement, which I love an interior room with no lights, great for sleeping. The place is very peaceful and while a big lake, not a lot of boat traffic or noise. There is not a Big Green Egg anymore, but a very workable Weber Kettle grill. Internet and cell service is not great, but if you want to shut down its perfect. Super cool and created some great family memories. Thanks
Our experience with this property was amazing! Communication with the owners was excellent from start to finish. They made sure all of our questions were answered quickly and thoroughly, which made booking a breeze. The check-in process was seamless – honestly smoother than any hotel experience we’ve had.The lodge itself is absolutely breathtaking – the photos online truly don’t do it justice! It’s the perfect getaway we were craving. The location is wonderfully secluded, offering peace and privacy, but still close enough to town and local restaurants for convenience. If I could give a rating higher than an A, I would! We’re already looking forward to staying here again. Highly recommend!
Excellent lodge with significant room for a large family. We brought 23 guests.
Forest Lodge presented a great history for guests, and it continues to produces a uniquely enjoyable vacation. Fishing was very good. We caught many bass and even one musky. Young boys in our group were catching decent bass off the pier. Each bedroom is quaintly decorated. Only negatives are the lack of lighting in the kitchen, right side of griddle didn’t work effectively, and an outlet down by the pier would be a huge plus for plugging in trolling motor batteries.
A Truly Nostalgic Stay with Exceptional Communication
Our stay at this property was absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were taken back in time with the Lodge's nostalgic charm and cozy atmosphere. It felt like stepping into a place with memories, and every corner exuded warmth and character. The property had that perfect blend of old-school comfort with modern conveniences, making it an ideal escape. Equally remarkable was the communication with the property manager, Krista [whom operates forestlodgeln.com]. Any question(s) we had, she was quick to respond and so incredibly helpful. It was easy to get in touch, and her genuine care for her guests really shined through. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and can't wait to return this summer to enjoy the lake! We highly recommend this gem!
Our four sons and their families (19 total) spent a fun filled week at the historic lodge. Krista, the owner, was very pleasant and easy to work with. She met us on our arrival and showed us around. We loved all of the space and openness of the lodge. We all enjoyed the pool table and game table. The kitchen space was great when cooking for a large group. Beautiful lake and we were able to catch plenty of fish for a nice fish fry before leaving. We enjoyed watching the eagles catch their supper and listening to the loons!
Beds were comfortable. Hope we can return again!

Nice place for a large group!
We found this lodge to be a great fit for our entire family. It was spacious, clean and well maintained. We brought our pontoon and the guys were able to fish daily. There was a kayak and canoe for our use and the kids loved the quick access to the lake. High Lake was very clean for swimming. With 12 adults and 8 kids, we never felt like we were on top of each other. It was a lovely time there. Ate at the Boulder Beer Bar [yummy burgers] and golfed at the Trout Lake golf course. Also went horseback riding at Grassy Creek Ranch. I would recommend this place to anyone with a large group. Only problem we had was with the oven not working properly, which we didn't realize until close to the end of our stay. All in all, a nice place to spend some time.
We had a 3 generation family of 9 people- 7 adults and 2 small children 4& 6 years old- the Lodge was perfect for providing so many amenities and spacious areas for relaxing, eating, playing, puzzling, even work. The furniture and decor are very unique and well done, & provide opportunities for pursuing interests, beautiful views, conversation,& games. Kitchen and dining areas are great: huge beautiful granite island with seating, massive wood dining table easily seating 10-12; another round table seating another 6-8 plus nearby patio with chairs and table. Kitchen has all the pans, cookware, serving dishes for cooking great meals plus 3 refrigerators in house. Oh, and we really appreciated little tables for girls to eat and toys. Very nice bedrooms. ( one thing is that some in our party missed not having window in their room; ) two of the bedrooms had beautiful lake views, rest did not, but sleeping rooms were unique, nice comforters and 4 bathrooms in Lodge. We did rent a pontoon boat which we loved having for rides on lake, swimming from boat. The swimming beach is not ideal for little kids squeamish about lillypads and seaweed, but adults and dog had fun jumping off pier. We ate and grilled many meals , also enjoyed dining at Aberdeen’s in Manitowish Waters, Aqualand in Boulder Junction, and discovering Manitowish Waters beach and restaurant area. Other fun excursions nearby were Wildwood Wildlife Zoo park in Woodruff, store browsing in Boulder Junction & Minocqua.
Our recent stay at Forest Lodge was nothing short of magical. Tucked away in the heart of nature, it offered us the perfect escape to reconnect with family.
The lodge itself was beautifully designed, blending the historic rustic charm with modern amenities. We were pleasantly surprised by the spacious and well-appointed rooms. The view of the lake is stunning! The cozy fireplace added a touch of warmth.
The property itself was a nature lover's paradise. We enjoyed exploring the nearby trails, immersing ourselves in the serene beauty of the forest. The sounds of birds chirping, the loons calling and the rustling of leaves made our morning walks truly magical. Paddleboarding, canoeing, beach time and fishing kept us entertained.
The highlight of our stay was the outdoor deck, where we spent hours soaking in the peaceful surroundings and enjoying al fresco meals. Whether sipping morning coffee or stargazing at night, the deck provided a perfect spot to unwind and reconnect with nature. Inside we played pool, foosball and card games each night.
The host was incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that our stay was nothing short of perfect. From providing local recommendations to ensuring we had everything we needed, their hospitality truly made our experience memorable.
Overall, our stay at Forest Lodge exceeded all expectations. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in nature's embrace, look no further. We can't wait to return to this hidden gem!
Very nice secluded property with great views. We loved seeing bald eagles every day and hearing the loons in the morning. The house easily accommodated our family of 11.
If you are looking for a great floor plan for a large family, this is it. The living area was huge & the kitchen was awesome. Bedrooms were downstairs, which worked out well for us. Property is beautiful & having access to the pedal boat & canoe were awesome. Fishing was great too. The property manager as well as the owner were great to communicate with.
We had an amazing time at this beautiful lodge. The photos do not do it justice! Every room was decorated beautifully, and the beds were super comfortable.
The weather wasn't the best, so we enjoyed all the lodge had to offer inside! The great room was the perfect space for listening to the radio, playing pool, poker and other fun games.
The kitchen was equally as amazing providing lots of space for us to cook a large meal, and plenty of space for a sit down family style dinner.
We can't wait to make this a yearly visit!
The property was beautiful. The owner kept the historical integrity while providing the modern amenities to make our stay comfortable. The Great Room provided great gathering spaces plus an oversized mudroom for "stuff" after a day on the lake. To be able to stay here was a dream come true and the house and grounds exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was well stocked with great appliances, and offers an amazing view of the lake. The beds were comfortable and baths were nicely updated! From basketball to the beach to the lakeside deck - the outdoor spaces were awesome!! A wonderful stay that brought the past alive and our families together! We can't wait to return again next year! Thank you!
Very beautiful lodge with a stunning view of the lake. We enjoyed fishing right off the dock, tubing, kayaking, canoeing and taking boat rides around the lake. There was tons of space to spread out for our large family in the lodge. The only suggestion we have is to let visitors know to bring soap, garbage bags, dish soap, toilet paper, Kleenex and paper towels as there were not enough provided for the week. We also would have liked more detailed instruction on where to take the garbage/recycling and the transfer bag process. Overall it’s a very nice lodge in a beautiful setting!!
This place was unbelievable. We could not have stayed in a better place. Krista was great and real responsive to questions. I only noticed one thing during check-in that I wanted to bring to Krista's attention - 5 minutes later Tom arrived to fix the problem. The great room with the pool table and poker table were great for our one rain day. The pier had plenty of room for our boats. We loved everything about this place.
Second year at the lodge. We love the property and spaciousness of the place. Beautiful setting, no issues with the lodge. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms are clean and up to date. Had a great time again.
The Lodge is an absolutely amazing place on a fantastic lake delivering everything one would want from a Northwoods vacation. The history of the former fishing camp lodge turned home is palpable from the original food menus, giant dining room table, fireplace, and wood beams. However, it’s been tastefully updated to provide guests with everything they’d want to host and entertain large groups. High Lake has everything an angler or water sports enthusiast would want. During our stay in high season, we counted maybe 20 total boats on the water, which is exactly what we wanted, but felt comfortable dragging the kids on the tube in the afternoons as well. I’d be remiss not mentioning the eagles - on a sunset lake cruise one evening we literally counted 20+ different eagles as we boated the perimeter of the lake. The listing undersells the Lodge, as the Lakeview from the great room is breathtaking, there is every kitchen utensil / pot / pan that anyone could want, multiple docks allow kids to play free of a tied boat, sleeping quarter set ups are super flexible for groups with kids with varied bed times, plenty of places for teens to have their space, game room / fireplace area keeps the kids occupied while parents can enjoy the great room or deck. It’s location provides access to so much when you realize it’s centrally located between Boulder Junction, Land O’Lakes, Sylvania Wilderness Area and easy access to Minocqua, and Eagle River. I’ve spent 25 years visiting the UP and Wisconsin Northwoods and very strongly recommend The Lodge as it delivers the quintessential experience. We will be back!
Our stay at Forest Lodge was absolutely the best from the beginning to the end of our stay. Mike, the Property Manager, was wonderful and welcomed us warmly. All the amenities and accommodations were first rate. The view of the Lake from the upstairs windows was amazing. The view actually became our "TV"! We spent hours there....especially in the early morning drinking our coffee. Everything about this experience was "perfection". I will be sure to tell one and all of how wonderful our experience was there. Thank you Krista and Mike!
