Fun.
We thought that was all we needed for the opening paragraph to describe this luxury Ontario cottage rental (just in case you're one of those who only read the headlines). That's not you? Then read on! The new owners of this cottage rebuilt it and designed it from the bottom up for family fun. We think you'll agree with us that Sun on a Beach is all that and more when looking for a cottage rental in Ontario.
Located on the sandy shores of Georgian Bay a little north of Wasaga Beach, this Ontario cottage rental has an extensive beachfront area, with panoramic vistas of the water and the Blue Mountains in the distance. If the water is calm, it's like glass...take a floatie and let stress drift away. If the winds have whipped up the waves, a little body surfing could be on the agenda. Everything you want in a waterfront is here - safe and shallow entry for younger children or those less comfortable in the water and magnificent sunsets for all. Once the sun goes down, finish the day with the classic cottage tradition of a marshmallow roast around the firepit.
Entering the main front door, you can immediately see that the upper level is built with the view in mind. The bi-level kitchen/living/dining areas take full advantage of the westerly view. The living room and dining area, along with the south wing, form a sheltered courtyard patio area, which is easily accessed by the sliding doors. The kitchen is a dream. A huge island along with everything you need for great meals is here.
Around the corner is the bedroom wing of the floor. Here you'll find a wonderful primary bedroom! A picture window lets you enjoy a beach view as soon as you open your eyes in the morning. There are 2 additional bedrooms with an additional 7 sleeping spaces. If you're bringing an extended family this seems like a great place for cousins to stay up late talking while their parents half-heartedly tell them to go to sleep.
The lower level has an additional bedroom with 5 sleeping spaces and is the bedroom where the kids will likely claim as their own. That's because it is right next door to an incredible games room which includes table hockey, foosball, a big TV and an arcade-quality retro video game console. We know that you're here for the sun and surf, but rainy days and evenings will no doubt see the family gathering here for fun and laughter!
Think you can tear yourself away from this luxury cottage rental? Probably not, but for those with a wandering spirit, the quaint town of Elmvale is just 10 minutes away for shopping and a few eateries (We recommend The Country Diner for an inexpensive and delicious breakfast). The hotspot of Wasaga Beach is just a few km south if you would like to check out the boardwalk and the city of Barrie is just a half hour away for all your big city needs. Heading North, the historic towns of Midland and Penetanguishene let you soak up a little Ontario history.
This luxury Ontario cottage rental has something for everyone and is one you will want to come back to each year to enjoy.

Close-By Attractions

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is most well-known for the amazing sandy shoreline, but there's also a natural area of 7 hectares that protects wildlife habitat and nesting shorebirds. The Welcome Centre is the gateway to the Nancy Island Historic Site which features a museum, theatre, and a replica of a Great Lakes lighthouse. The Park also features the Wasaga Nordic & Trail Centre, the starting point for over 50 km of hiking trails, with cross-country skiing, skate skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter. (10 mins)
Elmvale Jungle Zoo. Zoo with over 30 acres of winding, shaded trails, providing an up close and personal experience from animals around the world. An additional 25 acres has been left untouched as a habitat for animals local to the area. (15 mins)
Nancy Island Historic Site. Nancy Island Historic Site represents a major event during the War of 1812: HMS Nancy's battle against three American schooners on August 14th of 1814. The island houses the charred hull and artefacts of the HMS Nancy. Visitors to the site can join a heritage costumed staff member and discover the history of the Nancy and her crew, participate in a hands-on historical demonstration, view a video presentation which tells the crew's heroic story, and club to the top of a Great Lakes 19th Century replica lighthouse for the best view of Wasaga Beach. (10 minutes).
Skull Island Mini Golf. World Class 18 hole Minigolf course with a pirate theme. The Pirates have been marooned on Skull Island and are guarding their treasures. Their ship can be boarded but beware, one of the pirates is not far away on his raft. The park is enclosed with beautiful murals of the Caribbean and music playing and palm trees swaying with a waterfall cascading into one of the pools. When you arrive at the eighteenth hole you may be lucky enough to be awarded the Pirates treasure (FREE GAME) if your aim be dead on.
