About this property

Sunshine Coast Hinterland Farm Stay

Welcome to ‘The Mission House’, nestled in the rolling hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. This pocket of rural paradise is the place to breathe in the fresh country air and truly unplug from the busyness of life.

Picture the sun setting on a green hillside. Bees buzzing around the herb garden. White ducks waddling up from the dam in a row. A clear sky studded with stars. Adirondack chairs around a roaring fire pit.

The Mission House is situated on one of the most prestigious roads in the hinterland, Cooroy Mountain Rd. It’s just a 5-minute drive to the beautiful country town of Cooroy and less than 30 minutes to Noosa’s iconic Main Beach.

Nestled high on a hill, the home looks out to beautiful Cooroy Mountain, and over green fields where farm animals wander. This is a working farm; there are often goats to milk, baby chickens to hold and ponies who like a comb and a cuddle. During your stay you are welcome to view and pat the animals under our supervision. We find children who visit the Mission House are fascinated by the process of nature, and we’re ready to answer all kinds of questions about life cycles, manure and where eggs come from!

Now you may not be visiting for the animals - perhaps the serenity and fresh air are what you’re seeking. You will have this in abundance; while we are available should you need us, your entire stay can be one of seclusion. You don’t need to interact with a horse or a human at all!

The house itself exudes old-world country character. It’s been lovingly restored and designed for easy living. The hardwood floors and louvre windows have been retained, and the beautiful woodwork is complemented by peaceful whites and blues of provincial country decor. The home features a gourmet kitchen, a formal dining room with mountain view, a cosy lounge with smart TV and reading corner, air conditioning and ceiling fans throughout, and two generous size bedrooms accommodating up to four people.

The house was built by a local family in Proston in about 1938. It was constructed with local timbers including spotted gum, flooded gum, crows ash and some hoop pine. The family relocated the house to Tewantin in the 1950s…board by board. In 1970 the home was purchased by a new owner (who left it to us). It was her life’s mission to help people with their health and spirituality. Not wanting the home to be demolished once she had passed, she left it to us. She passed away in early 2019. Named in her honour, the ‘Mission House’ aims to fulfil the legacy by providing guests a place to rest, restore and reconnect.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCES

On the property you can: play on a trampoline, play ping pong, build a fire (firepit) and interact with animals (by arrangement with us).

Beyond our doors, the glorious Noosa Hinterland has so much to offer! Here are just a few of our favourite local attractions:

ART: Butter Factory Arts Centre

A creative art hub in Cooroy, inside the 1930 heritage Butter Factory building. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, you can wander through exhibition spaces, pick up a unique handcrafted gift in the artisan store or visit the pottery studio.

BERRY PICKING: Cooloola Berries (May to Sept)

Pick your own berries on this working farm, or enjoy a meal made with fresh local produce from the farm and local growers. Relax amid sunshine and fields of lavender. It’s a 50-minute scenic drive through the hinterland forest.

GARDENS: Noosa Botanic Gardens

Situated just outside of Cooroy, the Botanic Gardens are one of our favourite places to unwind! Pack a hamper and picnic blanket! Situated on eight hectares of stunning gardens, there are so many things to explore, from the amphitheatre to the shade garden and lily pond. Explore one of the many curated walking paths, feed the ducks (they like oats and grapes, not bread!), keep an eye out for turtles and other wildlife, or dig for dinosaur bones (children’s sand play area). There are also regular guided walking tours and free musical performances.

HISTORY: Majestic Theatre

Just up the road in the nearby town of Pomona stands the heritage-listed Majestic Theatre. This lovingly restored 1921 beauty is the only remaining theatre in the world that still continuously screens silent films, accompanied by a live piano performance by Maestro Ron West on the beautifully restored 1937 Compton organ, one of only four in the world. This is a truly unique experience!

MARKETS: Eumundi Markets

Australia’s premier artisan market with a mantra of ‘ Make it. Bake it. Sew it. Grow it.’ Held every Wednesday and Saturday, you will find over 200 stalls of artworks, jewellery, sculptures, handmade toys, homewares, furniture, skincare and fashion created by local designers. Oh, did we mention the food? Don’t eat before you go. From French croissants to kombucha you’ll be satisfied.

PLAY: Hinterland Adventure Playground

A nature-based playground for children of all abilities, there’s so much to do! Climbing structures, swings, a water play area and open spaces set in native gardens. There are onsite toilets, picnic shelters and BBQs.

VIEWS: Mt Tinbeerwah Lookout

Mount Tinbeerwah offers 360 degree views of the Sunshine Coast, from the beaches of Noosa to the Hinterland. The great thing is that it’s an easy walk, with the first 150m of the track even accessible for prams and wheelchairs. Even young children have no trouble getting to the top, where you’ll find stunning views, a fenced lookout and shelter. It’s a magical place to watch the sun rise or set; don’t forget your camera!

Check in is from 2pm unless otherwise arranged.
Check out is at 10am.

If you are heading into the Noosa Area, here are some recommended experiences:

NOOSA MAIN BEACH
Our world-famous protected beach is fringed by national parks where you might swim with dolphins, turtles and fish galore. Hire a surfboard, kayak, stand up paddle board or boat, grab your snorkel or just relax o the beach in the Noosa year-round sunshine.

HASTINGS STREET, the 'Toorak of Noosa', is a must-see at night with fairy lights ensuring you feel you are in a wonderland. Both Hastings Street and Noosa Junction, just up the hill, have a great array of café’s, restaurants, and wine bars. Noosa Junction has a cinema.

NOOSA NATIONAL PARK
Explore one of Australia’s favourite National Parks, take the boardwalk and stop at the information centre for an update on koala sightings. Aim for Hells Gate for an opportunity to spot migrating whales at the right time of year, or dolphin pods year-round.

THE NOOSA EVERGLADES
One of Australia’s best-kept secrets and one of only two habitats like it in The World. Over 44% of all Australia’s bird species reside within this spectacular region along with 1,365 species of plants and over 700 native animals. Cruise or paddle tours are available.

As we are in a semi-rural area you will need to have your own car.

Curious about the animals that live on the farm?

We have: 7 Brahman cows, 4 horses, 2 Indian Runner ducks, 3 Saanen goats, 3 Anglo Nubien goats and 10 Silky Chickens.

Along with kangaroos, you may also spot the following native birds: Pacific Black Duck, Purple Swamp Hen, Muscovy Duck, Magpie Geese, White Cockatoos, and Kookaburras.
