The home was very comfortable and spacious, it was well-stocked with toiletries and kitchen supplies, and the added bonus for us "city folk" was the quiet farm setting with the herd of cows! The host provided lots of dining options and made sure the access to the house was plowed several times after the fairly heavy snowfall. It was a great place to relax and not too far from Starved Rock with lots of interesting hiking trails! Highly recommended!
We LOVED our vacation at the farmhouse! It was a great location for the activities we had planned (mainly hiking in the nearby state parks). It was large enough for us all to have our own space, yet still cozy. It was quiet and peaceful, and we were sad to leave! If we come back to the area, I will absolutely plan the trip around staying here again!
We had such a great time staying on this working farm. The farmhouse was so cute and our dogs loved running around the big yard. Our stay was so quiet and peaceful and it was so awesome seeing the cows right out the back windows. Check in was really easy and wifi access was great. The house is very close to Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks which we really enjoyed hiking. Would definitely recommend this home for a relaxing stay.
Exactly the old farm ambiance that we wanted as we attended an outdoor fall wedding nearby. Beautiful night skies, farm fields under harvest and distant silos and wind turbines made for the most magical stay. We were greeted by a line of barn kitties, and enjoyed the occasional moo of the cows/cattle. Neighbor to south had a farm stand with sweet goodies we enjoyed each day. Hope to return. Great stay.
My wife, daughter, dog and I had a wonderful stay at this farmhouse. It was clean, well kept, and exactly as advertised. Our 1yr old daughter loved all the animals around the farm, and our dog loved the big yard to run around in. Very close to both Starved Rock and Matthiessen, easy driving distance to both. Can't recommend this place enough.

Peaceful Country Life
My furbabies, and I really enjoyed staying at this beautiful farmhouse. The property was peaceful, clean, quiet, and safe. My furbabies were also very intrigued, and enthusiastic about seeing cows for the first time. Doug the owner, was very hospitable, and caring. Every morning I enjoyed watching the beautiful sunrise by the barn. If you like the beautiful country life, with peace and quiet, this is the place to be; and I truly recommend it.
Short stay, enjoyed the clean farmhouse, all upgraded bathroom, kitchen, etc. Guest book was great we went to the lodge nearby for dinner many restaurants available plenty of scenery and parks
This is an old farmhouse on a working farm and with that comes what you might expect, inconsistent heat, lower water pressure, and flies. The home is comforable and well appointed. The host is responsive. The listing says 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms but the third bathroom is in the basement down a treacherous narrow, steep, uneven staircase without a rail. No one in our group felt safe using that staircase. So it was basically a 2 bath for us which was disappointing as we wanted 3. Its also a pet friendly place so if you have allergies, it might not be a great place for you. Its convenient to the surrounding state parks and towns. Overall its a nice stay.
Loved the property. Enjoyed coffee on the porch, hearing the cows. The interior of the home was just perfect for us. Will definitely plan another stay. This stay has us contemplating a move back home to Illinois.
We had a great time. It was our first time visiting Starved Rock State Park & we wanted somewhere we could rest after our hike. This was a perfect house for our family of 4. Everyone had their own space to relax while we could also still gather in the living room/kitchen/dining room together (with a view of the cows from the living room windows!). We got lucky with blue skies & fluffy clouds during the day & also were able to see a really beautiful full moon over barns at night. The lightening off in the distance one evening made for really cool views over the corn/bean fields. Thanks for everything!
We were in town for my mom's funeral in her hometown of Minonk, IL. I booked this stay with my mom in mind; I wanted that peace and comfort of the country that we felt as kids visiting her hometown. I also wanted a place where my dogs Bo (14) and Dasher (2) could stay. Knowing I could keep them with me was a big comfort!
We made friends with the cows and the cats, and enjoyed seeing them daily. We were reminded of the simplicity of life yet still had the comforts of such a cute and accommodating home! This home had all the nice touches for a family and the fall decorations were a plus!
Wonderful, comfortable stay!
Our stay was a family celebration of birthdays and early Thanksgiving. The long weekend was relaxing and serene - exactly what we had hoped for. The farm was as advertised and we enjoyed seeing the kittens and cows. As a working farm, there were flies throughout the house (as noted with previous guests) but we did not find them problematic. I assume the farm is on well water because the pressure is very low. We did experience loss of heat upstairs and some miscommunication with the host regarding attention to it. However, it was resolved in a few hours. The oven did not work (we told the host when he came to fix the heat - he had not been aware) and knives were very dull which made the meal preparation challenging. There was no propane in the grill. We found creative solutions and still enjoyed the stay overall very much. The stairs going up to second floor and basement are very steep. There is a Kroger grocery store and Walmart within 15 minutes which is very convenient! Be aware as a working farm, there are workers coming and going all day and through the wee hours of the morning. We did not find them disruptive at all but if you're looking for complete privacy, this may not be the best place to stay. While there are many specific details in this review, our overall experience was WONDERFUL.
