About this property

Enchanting chalet in an oasis of nature [new 2021]

CITQ 314379

Just a stone's throw from the P'tit train du Nord and the Val-David–Val-Morin Regional Park, this brand-new chalet (built in 2021) combines a natural environment with proximity to the villages.

Cook delicious meals on the gas stove. Enjoy a coffee or aperitif on the large deck. Tell stories around a roaring fire on the outdoor fireplace (free logs provided by the host!).

Each room has its own bathroom or half-bath. One is equipped with a freestanding bathtub.

DETAILS

A blend of Laurentian style and Thai decor, this wooden chalet combines quaint charm with modern amenities.

I built it with my own hands and decorated it with artworks and handicrafts brought back from my travels in Asia.

The chalet has three floors.

1. First floor. Open-plan kitchen-dining area with cathedral ceiling, 36" gas stove, 36" farmhouse sink, gas fireplace. Bedroom with exposed beams. Bathroom with multi-jet shower column and washer-dryer combo.

2. Top floor. Attic-style bedroom with freestanding bathtub and en-suite half-bath. Other room upstairs: two-person office, two work tables and two chairs.

3. Finished basement. Oak floors. Living room with Thai artwork and large sectional sofa. Bedroom with four-poster bed. Full bathroom.

4. Exterior. Large terrace with 5-burner BBQ, dining area, lounge chairs. Backyard surrounded by trees. Fire pit with outdoor fireplace and Adirondack chairs.

GUESTS' ACCESS

You'll also have use of the parking lot in front of the house. This includes two open parking spaces and one covered parking space in the carport.

Two small rooms in the basement remain inaccessible to travelers. These rooms are reserved for guest storage. Signs clearly indicate the inaccessibility of these rooms.

The other basement rooms are yours to use during your stay: living room, bedroom and bathroom.

LOCATION

Equidistant from the pretty villages of Val-David and Val-Morin, the house is nestled on a quiet cul-de-sac street. It's a large lot with lots of trees. Neighboring houses are at a respectful distance. In the backyard, it looks like a clearing in the middle of the woods. The large windows on the east side overlook a completely natural environment: trees, marshes and hills. You'll hear the birds and frogs singing, depending on the season! There's a very good chance you'll also be visited by deer!

The place is very central in the Val-David–Val-Morin locality. On one side, there is Lake Raymond. On the other, the regional park and the shops of Val-David. In addition, the house is located between the Rivière du Nord and the P’tit train du Nord multifunctional trail.

GET AROUND

By car, you can reach the villages and the Val-David-Val-Morin Regional Park in 5 minutes. The small Vallée Bleue and Belle Neige ski mountains are also just 5-10 minutes away. Mont Saint-Sauveur: 20 minutes. Morin-Heights: 25 minutes. Mont Blanc: 25 minutes. Mont-Tremblant (Saint-Jovite): 30 minutes. Mont-Tremblant National Park: 45 minutes.

On foot, you can reach the village of Val-David in 20-25 minutes. It's a pretty village with cafés, boutiques and restaurants. On the Val-Morin side (also 20-25 minutes on foot), there's a microbrewery (Ayawan) and a bakery-pastry shop (En faim chez nous).

By bike, the 234-kilometre P'tit Train du Nord cycling trail awaits you! It's just a few pedal strokes away. Lac Raymond and its beach are just 8 minutes away.

PLEASE NOTE

** Outdoor furniture is not available during the cold season. Therefore, from December 1 to April 30, you will not have access to the following items: BBQ, patio set, loungers, outdoor fireplace.

Host profile image
Originally from Gaspesie, Quebec, I'm an adventurer who likes to take on crazy projects. During the pandemic, I built a house with my own hands in Val-Morin... the very house where you'll stay!
I travel a lot, especially in Southeast Asia. Thailand is my second home.
I speak French, English, Thai and some Spanish.
I'm also a writer and interpreter (simultaneous translator). Languages and writing are my passions. I have published several books in French including "Relief" which won the Emile-Nelligan poetry award in 2012.

Why they chose this property

Only an hour from Montreal, Val-David and Val-Morin are the most attractive localities in the Laurentians, in my opinion. They are twin villages that are very laid back. I love being out in nature while still having access to the bars, restaurants and shops of the pretty tourist village of Val-David. There are plenty of activities to do in the surrounding area, including downhill and cross-country skiing, biking, climbing, hiking, kayaking and more.

What makes this property unique

I built the chalet with my own hands, using meticulous craftsmanship. It's a house made of pine wood with both oak and cork floors. I also used mature larch cut from the land to build certain elements, such as the terrace and carport.
In addition, I brought back many works of art and handicrafts from Thailand to decorate the house. Here and there, you'll notice Thai and Oriental elements that give the house a dreamy, enchanting look.
