Spacious Studio Downtown. Explorer's Suite (in a 5-unit building). Unit Sleeps 3 people.

The Explorer is one of 5 separate Suites to rent among the Acanthus House. The Explorer is located on the ground floor and equipped with a Queen size bed (an air mattress is also provided in the room) and kitchenette (no oven). This Suite offers a 3/4 bathroom with walk-in tiled shower. It is fully furnished with chairs, new small appliances and an electric fireplace. Wi-fi and a Smart TV is supplied for guests to log-in to their preferred streaming services.

Guests will find that one block from Acanthus Suites will bring you into the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, offering many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, ice-cream shops and art galleries, all within walking distance. On Saturday mornings the local San Juan Island Farmer's Market is a 5-minute walk from the Acanthus Suites!

Any or all Acanthus Suites can be rented for different group sizes!

The Acanthus House is one of Friday Harbor's first important historic homes. Built in 1913, it was a wedding gift for a wealthy merchant’s daughter. It has been beautifully restored. Located in historic downtown Friday Harbor; only 3 blocks from the ferry dock and Port of Friday Harbor and is an excellent option for those coming to explore the island and have a comfortable place to rest at night.

Great location! Walked to everything in town. Only had to drive to the lighthouse. It is an old house so you can hear your neighbors upstairs walking around, if you are somebody sensitive to noise. Easy entry and easy checkout.

Great location a couple min to main street (not the actual name of the street, but you get the idea). We were able to walk around for meals, tours and shopping while having minimal traffic immediately by the room. The room itself was very spacious and clean with a high end rustic feel. We enjoyed having a dining room and space to spread out.

Photos on VRBO were accurate and the location is great. Overall, I would stay here again although I would bring a sleep mask. The light from the hallway (which has a note saying it has to stay on all the time) comes through the transom window over the door to the room...and right into your eyes when you are laying down. I ended up sleeping with a dark shirt draped over my eyes since there was no way to block out the light. Pretty minimal amenities (dishes, etc.) but the bed was very comfortable. Note for people who have a bad ferry/transportation connection time: the management company will not allow any flexibility in check out time - even if no one is staying there the following night.

The Acanthus home (Explorer Suite) is very cute from the outside. The host was also very easy to work with. The Explorer Suite has gorgeous detail with wooden beams, floors, and details. Visually, the rental is charming and has appeal. However, there are some very simple things that were big misses for us. Primarily, the grout in the shower is molding and the towels smelled like mildew prior to ever using them (and far worse with use). Additionally, the room smelled like cat urine. This isn't the end of the world, but was annoying given the cost of the rental for 4 nights. I probably would not stay here again in the future unless the cost came down to match the quality of the room.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location, location, location! A quick walk to “downtown” Friday Harbor. A very cute old house, love the fireplace (has a thermostat for set temps). Parking in back which is essential for this small town. Has keyless entry and nice amenities (fridge, coffee maker, etc. our son sleep on air mattress and all worked out great! The staff were PHENOMENAL with some minor issues (all my fault) Would recommend and would stay again.

It was such a charming place to stay. We loved that it was built so long ago with the beautiful wood furnishing. We especislly loved the picture of the kids and enjoyed thinking about what life was like for them back then. We loved our stay!
