Loved our stay here. We stayed in fancy hotels in other areas but nothing beat our time in Ubud in this villa. The pool is bigger than it looks, it outdoor showers are great. When opening the gate to our private 2bdrm Villa garden, we knew we were in paradise! The manicured grounds surround the long pool with umbrella covered sun beds at either end. The massive single story Villa has huge glass sliding doors from all rooms which open up to this picturesque pool garden. The air conditioned bedrooms are both very large and roomy, with a comfy king bed dressed in quality cotton linens, relaxing daybed lounge, huge LED tv, plus blackout curtains for glass sliding doors. Both bedrooms include large ensuite with spacious open shower (one suite also has a bath tub). The very massive living area includes several big daybed lounges, a beautiful large dinning table in central area, then a huge open kitchen with free standing island bench and all the necessary appliances, dishes and cutlery required for any cooking needs. Outside is a beautiful open covered BBQ area with prep bench and large dinning table. Most importantly, the staff and management are truely amazing. Manager Gede was always contactable for any queries or extra needs. Daily professional cleaning service, plus fresh linens every 3 days, included. For my husbands birthday, the staff decorated the garden with broken flower peddles laid in amazing designs and a birthday greeting for him, and a lovely arrangement on the dinning table. Truely amazing! This Villa is located in a quiet residential area about 10min drive to Ubud city with easy access to taxi service.

Mertha House is a comfortable home well appointed home from which to enjoy tours guided by the host , Made. Made is a great host. There is a good choice of tours and activities in the surrounding area including organic farms offering meals in a jungle setting, rice fields, coffee plantations, hot springs, temples including water blessings and a volcano. Made’s wife Komma is an excellent cook and there is a good menu from which to choose tasty meals served in house. Mertha House is located in a village of 1800 people and provides a good base from which to experience the real Bali.

From the moment you walk through the door and out onto the decking overlooking the stunningly beautiful view of the garden sloping down to the pool and ocean you know you have entered a paradise like nowhere else. It is an amazing place and like everyone else says the photos don't do it justice. We had a big family group stay at the villa for my wife's birthday. 14 guests in all, using up 5 rooms and it still felt so spacious. The Villa is incredible with views of the ocean from every room. The pool is a wonderful oasis from the heat and you can hang over the edge of the pool all day just looking out at the view of the beach which is right at your feet. A few of the bathrooms and showers are open to the elements and I actually had a shower every night under the stars. It is in the tropics though so expect to have some ants and bugs crawling around your room. We saw a big spider on the wall suddenly get eaten by a huge Gecko lizard living behind the flat screen TV. Wayan the inhouse chef does an incredible job of feeding the guests with freshly cooked pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast, the most delicious curry and satay flavoured lunches and dinners at a very cheap price. She even helped feed our children and was so wonderful with them. The staff are all great. Very unintrusive but efficient in maintaining the place. Wayan hired a photographer for us so we could have family photos on the beach. She organised a couple of people to come to the villa to give fantastic massages. And we had access to a big bus to drive all 14 of us around. The only thing you really need to consider when staying at the villa is that it is VERY far away from everything. Nothing is within walking distance. Access to the rest of the beach is cut off during high tide. There is a really great beach shack/cafe where all the surfers hang out and they do a very cheap lunch. It is about a 2 minute drive up the road. We hired a couple of scooters for the week which were delivered to the villa which meant we could ride to the ATM which is 10 mins away to get money out. And there is a very basic mini-mart about 10 mins away also. Ubud is at least 1.5 hours away and Kuta maybe 2.5 hours depending on traffic. We really enjoyed just slowing down and escaping the crazy pace of Bali and just lazed by the pool and ate and drank too much. The perfect holiday. We will never forget out time at The Cove and it will be a holiday that will be VERY hard to top.
