Jolo, Sulu in Mindanao earned its popularity and notoriety mostly for the wrong reasons. A history of kidnappings make this place an unpopular tourist destination. What the news and social media fail to show however are the people – their warmth, hospitality and generosity as well as the natural beauty of this place like this amazing sunrise. After days of immersive travelling, I came to realize that it doesn’t matter if we have different religions, or that we dress differently, eat different dishes, or speak different dialects.
