Guest Reviews

  • "Was just what we were looking for to enjoy the Brigadoon weekend in the Southern Highlands as we were allowed to have our two small dogs stay with us in the cottage. Although the weather ended up being very wet and miserable Halcyon cottage was cosy and warm and offered us everything we needed to enjoy our stay."

  • "A lovely little cottage. We stayed for the ANZAC long weekend which meant there was a fair bit of traffic going through Exeter - since Halcyon is located on the mainroad (such as it is) it was a little distracting but not too bad. By nightfall there was very little traffic so a good night's sleep was possible, and a reasonable sleep-in in the morning. Being so close to the train station I thought the noise from there would be a problem but it really wasn't as only a handful of trains seem to go through Exeter. The cottage itself is rustic but comfortable, they have a set top box so TV reception is good and a wide selection of videos and dvds (most of them geared towards kids). They provide quite a reasonable breakfast, plenty of towels, and lovely bedlinen. The gas fires work nicely to heat the house and electric blankets ensure you're not getting in a cold bed. There's a general store across the road which sells pretty good coffee and a wide selection of second hand books at very good prices (I picked up 2 great novels for holiday reading). I didn't dine there but the food looked good (seems all the trendy Southern-Highlanders drop in at least every weekend). I had a maternal chaffeur on this occasion, but since I don't drive I'll keep it in mind as a good spot to get away to that's accessible by public transport."

  • "We stayed at Halcyon for two nights over the Brigadoon weekend in April. The weather that weekend was terrible but when we arrived at the cottage it was very welcoming and once we got the fires going was cosy and warm. My husband, my mother, our two small dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Halcyon and would recommend it to anyone wanting a break away in the Southern Highlands."
