WINERIES: wine tasting & sales, beer brewing, food, cheese, chocolate, sweets, olives, galleries, specialty shops, teahouse, herb gardens, picnics, tours

WOLLOMBI VALLEY: gateway to Hunter Valley and offers many attractions to those who take the Route 33 tourist drive via Calga /Peats Ridge turnoff on the Sydney Expressway. The drive winds through Bucketty then follows the original convict built route of the 1840s to historic Wollombi Village. The work and promotion of the convict and aboriginal heritage of the Wollombi district certainly contributed to the award going to Wollombi. The services to tourism and the welcome to visitors to the Wollombi Valley are the keys to Wollombi's success. The Valley has many unique attractions and facilities to the delight of overseas tourists and Australian city dwellers alike. Visitors can relax and enjoy the hospitality of the Village in the fine restaurants or enjoy an ale with the locals in the tavern, visit the local boutique wineries, bushwalk or horseride through in the picturesque valleys around Wollombi. These are just a few of the many attractions of the district.

BROKE FORDWICH REGION: Nestled on the edge of the Yengo National Park, and just two hours from Sydney and one hour from Newcastle, the Broke Fordwich area is in the centre of the Hunter Valley. In 1994 the Broke Fordwich area was the first region formally recognised as a separate viticultural sub-region of the Hunter Valley. While historically, it is one of the oldest wine growing areas in Australia, it is only in the last 30 years that Broke Fordwich has started to become an important player in Australian winemaking. The sub-region produces some of the best quality fruit in the Hunter. Today the area boasts over 70 “Boutique” vineyards. Ten intimate Cellar doors are scattered throughout the valley, and offer a wide range of award and trophy winning wines for tasting and purchase. With first class cafés, licensed restaurants, cellar doors and farm shops offering a diversity of excellent wines and a gourmet selection of local produce……

HUNTER VALLEY GARDENS: Nestled amongst the foothills of the Brokenback Ranges in the heart of the Hunter vineyards is Hunter Valley Gardens, one of Australia's premier tourist destinations. Created by Bill Roche, who along with his family form the Australian owned company Roche Group, the entire property now spans over 300 hectares. Purchased by the Roche Group in 1998, the key components of this award-winning property include Harrigan’s Irish Pub, Lazzarini's Restaurant, Roche Wines, Hunter Valley Gardens Village, BBQ and picnic grounds, childrens playground, aqua golf, putt putt and a beautiful Chapel for private services, weddings or christenings. The "Jewel in the Crown" however, is of course the Hunter Valley Gardens themselves - 25 hectares of spectacular international display Gardens that will amaze you with sensational sights, colours, fragrances and adventures all of a standard you won't see elsewhere in Australia. At Hunter Valley Gardens there is something for everyone!

ADVENTURE: biplane adventure flights - scenic and acrobatic, hot air ballooning, scenic joyflights, helicopter charter and scenic tours, tandem & mountain bike self-guided tours, horse riding and 4WD night wildlife tours plus more

Guest Reviews

  • "Very comfortable and spacious. Lovely new bathroom. Will be better when the kitchen is renovated but it has absolutely everything to make for a very pleasant stay. We have told our Cessnock friends and family about it and they will also recommend your property for larger groups wanting to see the wineries and at an affordable rate."

  • "Our group really enjoyed our stay at Coal D'Vine Cottage - handy to everything and well equipped. Very cosy in Winter just using the gas heater and ceiling fans. We would definitely go back again as it is great value for all!David "

  • "VERY COMFORTABLE, VERY CONVENIENT, DEFINATELY RECOMMEND IT"
    Phil, June 2008

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Coal d'Vine cottage. It was in fairly close proximity to the wineries while at the same time being close to the shopping. The house was neat, tidy, clean and apart from the kitchen pretty new. Nothing else that i looked at in the region even comes close to value for money. VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER!"

  • "Coal d'Vine is a spacious, almost completely renovated cottage, centrally located with all mod cons and ample off-street parking. Plenty of comfy beds, lovely bathroom, outdoor dining /bbq area. Huge fenced backyard. Perfect for large families or groups. Excellent communication with very pleasant owners. We had a lovely stay and will certainly be back. Highly recommended."

  • "We stayed in the Coal d'Vine Cottage CESSNOCK with 2 couples and 2 children and the house was perfect for our needs. There is everything you need for a great stay. The bathroom appears to be newly renovated and is lovely. While I understand that the owners have plans to renovate the kitchen soon, we had no problem with the facilities. The bedding arrangements were ample and the loungeroom provided a comfortable room in which to relax. The large plasma TV and selection of DVDs and CDs were great. We would have loved to use the BBQ facilities, but the weather did not permit it. The location is perfect, as it is only 1 minute to the centre of Cessnock and about 5 mins to the wineries. We couldn't have asked for better accommodation. Our children were well catered for with a bath (complete with a duck!), appropriate DVDs, great bedding and heaps of space to run around in. Much better than being cooped up in a hotel room, and for a fraction of the price. I would highly recommend this accommodation. We are already planning to return in the near future, this time with even more adults to further reduce the cost per couple. To David and Hillary, thank you for your excellent communication, easy payment options and fantastic facility. You will be hearing from us again in the very near future. Regards Sarah"
