Balblair House is a unique, spacious self catering holiday home or weekend retreat in the heart of the Yarra Valley. It enjoys stunning elevated views yet is only 5 minutes walk from the shops and cafes in Warburton - approximately 75klms from the centre of Melbourne.
Our pricing structure and minimum charge is based on 6 people staying due to the cost of servicing such a large holiday home though, of course, couples and smaller groups are always welcome.
The outstanding feature of Balblair House is the large, open plan first floor kitchen/living/dining Room opening onto a north west facing balcony and a north east facing elevated deck complete with barbecue.
Also on the first floor: master (queen) double bedroom with walk in wardrobe, second (family) bedroom with two single beds and a folding bed, bathroom with large bath and separate WC. In addition there is a day bed in out of the way corner of the living room.
On the ground floor: two (queen) double bedrooms both with en siute shower rooms. Large recreation room which also houses a double bed settee, folding bed and a cloak room/wc.
Couples, young families, extended families or groups up to a maximum of 12 people can therefore relax, cook, eat, drink, sit and sleep in comfort. Each booking secures the whole house
We welcome any size of party at any time and outline below clarification of our fees:
For up to 6 people staying: $620.00 per weekend or for up to 2 nights midweek stay.
For numbers 7 to 12 add $40.00 per adult, per night and/or $20.00 per child per night (minimum 2 nights).
Longer stays are always welcome and a discount of 25% on the nightly tariffs applies for a 3 night stay, 33% for 4 to 6 nights and 40% for 7 nights or more
Weekly rates are therefore: $1302.00 for 7 nights for up to 6 people staying
The balcony faces north west and looks directly through the Yarra Valley. We strongly recommend the local wine and suggest the simple pleasures of drinks, nibbles, feeding the kookaburras, cooking on the barbecue and watching the sun set between the hills.
The long elevated deck is a haven for 'our birds'. Wild bird seed is provided and cockatoos plus a variety of parrots visit the bird table throughout the day. With care and patience they will take seed from the hand.
The first modification made by the new owners was to remove part of the wall between the kitchen and dining area allowing the chef to continue participating in what is going on.
In our opinion the urban sprawl of Melbourne ends well before you reach Warburton, but is only just over an hours drive from its centre. It can also be reached by train to Lillydale linking a frequent and regular bus service to Warburton.
Warburton sits astride the Yarra River approximately 20 klms from the Upper Yarra Dam (well worth a visit). Walks criss-cross the river or why not take a dip? For other walks the choice is endless ranging from a 15 minute stroll to an all day hike. The Warburton Way from Lillydale to Warburton was the old railway line and is now well used by both cyclists and walkers.
Should you want to 'ruin' a good walk try the inexpensive and grossly under used yet superb local golf course (club hire available). There are also tennis courts, a bowling green and a sports arena. For those who prefer a swimming pool rather than the Yarra a ten minute drive to Yarra Junction will answer the need.
There are numerous cafes and curio shops and the township is well served with excellent produce from the bakery, butcher and IGA store.
Within half an hours drive you can reach the summit of Donna Buwang, visit the cella doors of several excellent wineries, take a trip on Puffing Billy, go to the Races at Healeville, take a picnic to the 14 acre Lotus Garden and or merely enjoy a scenic drive through the wooded hills and rolling countryside.
