The cottage is only a short walk to the centre of the village and sits on the edge of bushland with wonderful bushwalks alongside the river.

Troopers Cottage - a rich history

Troopers Cottage was built in the 1860s as a residence for a senior Berrima Gaol official and his family.

From 1894 until the 1930s it served as Berrima's police station and the residence of three Mounted Troopers (a sergeant and two constables).

The cottage has been fully restored, retaining all its original features - 6 fireplaces, an historic bathroom, a character kitchen and antique furnishings.

Modern comforts in an historic home

Troopers Cottage has central heating to the bedrooms and living room, a working log fireplace in the living room, two bathrooms and a sunroom. A large stone courtyard is ideal for sunny days.

The two Queen size beds and the two single beds have the highest quality mattresses, blankets and linen. The towels are Egyptian cotton.

Guest Reviews

  • "A wonderful location and a really charming property. We are looking forward to coming back in winter. Berrima is a much more interesting place to stay than Bowral."

  • "Lovely spacious cottage that provided the restful retreat I was after. Its great location in charming Berrima is a particular plus. The ovenless kitchen may provide challenges if, like me, you regard the microwave as a waste of space but after my initial reservations I did adapt to the facilities on offer and ate very well thank you. An excellent place to rest a weary head if peace and a change of pace are priorities. "

  • "We loved our stay in this cottage. It has been beautifully renovated and the decor is relaxing and serene, helped by the original log fire in the loungeroom. There's heaps of room and the cottage is in the most wonderful location. We were momentarily set back by the lack of working over, but in the spirit of oldentimes we improvised and had a wonderful evening regardless! Thanks very much for allowing us to share in and experience this wonderful place."

  • "We had a great family weekend at Troopers Cottage. It was comfortable, warm and charming. My 7 year old granddaughter thought it was 'like living in the olden days', which was right - but with all modern comforts. It was a great half way meeting point for our family and we will certainly stay again. Easy, charming and a lovely atmosphere. And lots of information about what we could do while staying in Berrima."

  • "My partner & I visited the property and was shown around most graciously. Both of us loved the atmosphere and the hospitality shown by the Saunders"
