Description

Our beach house is 50 metres from the National Park and a 2-minute walk (max) to any of Congo's three beaches. (See the aerial photo for our location.)

The house is situated on a well fenced quarter-acre block, with lots of lawn for kids to play on. There are well established trees on the west side that offer shade from the summer sun.

The 250 sq metre double brick and timber house is substantial! It is north-facing, with a veranda that wraps itself half way round the upper level. Recently we have added new decks to the east and west sides, great for outdoor dining and sunning.

Where is Congo?

Congo lies just 8 km southeast of Moruya on NSW's beautiful South Coast. It's about two hours by car from Canberra and four hours from Sydney.

Congo is a small hamlet of about 100 houses -- no shops -- surrounded by the Eurobodalla National Park on three sides and the ocean on the other. It's like the beach used to be.

Congo is well known for its beaches and fishing. Congo Creek is ideal for some relaxed fishing and canoeing. Its tidal beach is great for younger children.

On one side of Congo Point is a relatively sheltered and calm swim beach. The other side has a longer beach renowned for its surf. You can fish from the beach, rocks or underwater for salmon, bream or tailor. Or you can just walk along the beaches and into the adjacent National Park.

A particularly nice feature of these beaches is that you cannot see any houses from them - this coastline is really wild and undisturbed.

The house

The house itself is comfortable and well set up for families or groups of up to 12.

The upper level offers: a large (50 sq m) open plan kitchen, dining, lounge area and sun room; 3 bedrooms; and 2 bathrooms (1 ensuite).

The kitchen is well equipped, with a large walk-in pantry and new dishwasher.

The lounge has a 5l cm TV, DVD and stereo.

Sliding glass doors open out onto the veranda. There is a gas BBQ on the west deck.

The master bedroom has a newly refurbished east-facing balcony and new ensuite bathroom. All bedrooms upstairs have new queen or double beds (with a king-size bed and a variety of singles downstairs).

There is also another bathroom with bath, shower and separate toilet.

The lower level comprises a large bunkhouse area (incl a 2nd TV/DVD), an even larger Games Room, plus a laundry and bathroom with shower and toilet.

The Games Room features a pool table and table tennis, along with a selection of games and puzzles.

The laundry has a new washer and dryer.

  • "this place is paradise!! The house is so relaxing, spacious and provides everything you need to relax and remain entertained on a rainy day. the beaches are beautiful just as the walks to them are. words cant do congo beach house justice. Hilary was most helpful with all enquiries. A must for families and groups!!"
    Bec, June 2007

  • "Believe the blurb! This is a lovely property in one of the South Coast's sleepiest little towns. We stayed with a family of four, but the house has heaps of space for a group holiday/retreat. It has big sunny verandahs, and really is an easy walk to 2 beaches. If you tire of peaceful Congo, it is a short drive to slightly less sleepy Moruya (try The River restaurant or John and Willy's Deli). Happy to recommend Congo Beach House!"
