Fall in love with pulsing, passionate Buenos Aires

Do you dream of a place filled with fiery passion and energy? Reignite your passion for living in the moment when you book a vacation in dynamic Buenos Aires (BA). One of Latin America's largest cities and as busy as it is beautiful, BA is hands-down the cultural and artistic heartbeat of Argentina. With a thriving LGBT community and heavy European influence evident in its cuisine, arts and architecture, it's sometimes called 'The Paris of the South'. Book Buenos Aires vacation rentals and let the spirited city seduce you.

Things to do

There's not much you can't do in this versatile metropolis

While you're wandering the downtown area, you'll be struck by the awesome Palacio Baralo, an ornate building modelled from Dante's Divine Comedy. The historic tower of Obelisco is also a cool stop. Shop with the locals at Plaza Dorrego, a vibrant square with cafes, a Sunday antique market and fun street performers. In the Puerto Madero dockside district, Casino Buenos Aires is a great bet for fun, and you can hike in the marshes and lagoons at the Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur nature park while you admire the BA skyline. Finally, catch a Boca Juniors or River Plate football match.

Everybody dance now – the tango, that is

Tango was born in BA, which still remains the Tango Capital of the World. So summon your sultry side and learn the dance at 1 of the many 'milongas', or better yet, come here in August for the Tango Festival. Strolling through the city centre, called the Microcentre, you can admire the eclectic mix of Colonial, Art Deco and Neo Gothic architecture, and go shopping for some haute couture in the super-hip Palermo Soho neighbourhood. You'll be famished after all that walking and dancing, so indulge in a juicy steak with chimichurri sauce, and wash it down with a rich Argentine wine.

Just like its people, BA weather is hot and dynamic

Summer's a hot time for Buenos Aires vacation rentals! If you're here in February, you can celebrate Carnival with loads of locals and visitors. Summer temps are hot, averaging around 28 degrees in January. In the spring, Jacaranda trees brighten the streets with vivid purple flowers. Rainfall is most frequent at this time, and the Pampero Wind brings intense thunderstorms. July is the coolest month, with most days falling to around 11 degrees – not quite cold enough for snow. Humid temps and ocean air bring heavy fog that blankets the city during fall and winter.

Natural highlights

A teeming metropolis on the world's widest river

A city as energetic as BA naturally has to be near life's vital resource – water – and indeed it is. It sits on the west bank of Rio de la Plata, the widest river in the world. This is Argentina's Pampas district, made of fertile plains, and home to deer, wolves, foxes and tons of small mammals and birds. Still, BA's a huge urban metropolis so you probably won't see much wildlife wandering the streets, save for some pigeons. For a walk on the wildlife side, visit the nature preserve on Puerto Madero, Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur.
