Located on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Townsville is the largest urban centre north of the Sunshine Coast. The wide variety of activities on offer makes it a great place to visit for a holiday with your family or with a loved one. 1) Adventure Sports

2) Check out the Army Museum of North Queensland
The museum has a collection of military memorabilia associated with military units of the past and present. It is a great place to see if you are a history buff.
3) Head over to the Billabong Sanctuary
The Billabong Sanctuary is the place for you if you are an animal lover. The entire sanctuary is filled with a variety of Australian animals. Feeding shows are held every 20 minutes or so.
4) Visit The Strand
With cafés, grassy parks, playgrounds and a marina, The Strand is a great place for all ages. Take a dip in the Tobruk Memorial Baths for a relaxing swim.
5) Check into Reef HQ
Reef HQ is a great place to visit with your children. The aquarium has a series of recreated reefs that a number of turtles, sharks, rays and other creatures call home.
6) Check into the Brewery
The Brewery is the place to go to if you are a worshipper of Bacchus. The bar serves the freshest beers that are brewed only a couple of metres away. Those who do not prefer drinking will be happy to know that the restaurant also serves delicious food.
7) Visit the Cultural Centre
The Cultural Centre is located right next to Reef HQ and is a great place to learn more about the Aboriginal Tribes of the area. You will not only get to see traditional cultural artefacts, but also a contemporary performance by the indigenous people.
8) Try Skydiving
Contact the Coral Sea Skydivers to experience the thrill of a tandem jump. If you wish to learn how to sky dive solo, you can take part in a 9 day course that will teach you everything you need to know about skydiving.
9) Visit Magnetic Island
Located just 8 km away from Townsville, Magnetic Island is an ideal place for nature lovers. The Magnetic Island National Park covers over 50% of the island and is home to a multitude of creatures.
10) Visit Castle Hill
Castle Hill will have you lost for words when you see the views of the region from the top of this heritage-listed granite monolith. Standing nearly 300m above sea level, it is one of the more well known natural features along the Queensland coast and dominates the Townsville skyline. You can walk up Castle Hill easily enough, while the monolith is regularly studied by educational groups to gain insights into the natural environment of this amazing landmark.
