About this property

A beautifully renovated, wonderfully positioned old Chapel with large garden

The Old Chapel in the heart of one of the area's prettiest villages. Wootton Rivers is within the North Wessex downs Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, with beautiful walks along the Kennet & Avon Canal, the Ridgeway and Savernake Forest. The village has a 16th century thatched pub a few doors down from the Chapel. We are also on the National Cycle Network route 4 as well as near to great restaurants such as Stein's and Dan's in Marlborough.
The space

Perfect for couples looking for a quiet, romantic retreat or young families with one or two small children, the master bedroom is open to the stairs (stair gates top and bottom if required) with bedroom 2 off the main bedroom. (You are welcome to book for three adults as long as you are happy that the person in bedroom 2 must access the stairs and bathroom through the main bedroom.)

The kitchen is fully equipped including dish washer and washing machine. There is also a heated airer, iron and ironing board at the property. The shower room has underfloor heating.

There is a large fenced garden over looking a field, that typically has cows in during the spring and summer. The garden is currently being landscaped but by the Spring 2019 there will be an outdoor eating space just outside the french windows so you can take in the views. Prior to the garden being finished, you are still very welcome to access is especially those who need to let their dogs out (but please remove any dog mess).

Guest access: Key safe

Interaction with guests
We are available to contact most of the time on the telephone but please be aware that we both work during the week and so please bear with us if we don't reply immediately. There will be an emergency contact number at the property. When we are in the village (we live very nearby) we can come to greet you or answer any queries.

Other things to note.
For foodies their is a wide choice of excellent pubs and restaurants in the local area, including: Rick Stein's, Dan's and Zaika in Marlborough, The Swan in Grafton, Red Lion in West Chisenbury, The Outside Chance in Manton, The Bell at West Overton and many others.

For those using the Old Chapel as a base to explore, we are only 20 mins (11 miles) by car from Avebury Neolithic Stone Circle and 35 mins (20 miles) from the more famous Stonehenge!

The Chapel Wootton Rivers
An absolute delight, we stayed for 9 nights and could have stayed many more. Wonderful converted Chapel in a picturesque village with very friendly locals. We would definitely stay there again, extremely happy with all aspects of the property. The hosts do their best to make sure you have everything you need, thank you Oliver and Emily!

Cosy retreat
Just what we needed, a perfect cosy retreat with endless walks from our doorstep. Small issue with a broken toaster which was replaced the same day with no fuss. Nice welcome pack, safe garden for our small dog. Perfect!

Quiet, warm and comfortable cottage.
We very much enjoyed our stay although the weather was dreadful with lots of flooded roads. It was a restful stay in a well equipped cottage.

Great property and location
We had three days at this property and would highly recommend it. Great position in a picture perfect English village, welcoming local pub just a very short walk away and some fantastic places to visit nearby. We took our dog and he had a great time on the walks up the canal as well as Savernake forest. Property is very well decorated jn a restful colour with great amenities and every needed to cook in, eat out or grab a takeaway. Will def look to come back. Thanks for a great few days!

About the host

Your host

Host profile image
We are a family with two young children who moved to the beautiful village of Wootton Rivers from London in 2016 and haven't looked back! We'd love to share it with you.

Why they chose this property

The Old Chapel was originally converted into a dwelling in the early eighties. We had the opportunity to purchase the property in early 2018 and as its latest guardians we renovated and reconfigured the conversion to make better use of the space available and bring the decor up to date. The location in the heart of this very pretty village is wonderful with beautiful walks and cycle rides from the door step and views down the garden across open fields.

What makes this property unique

As part of the renovation we were able to reveal some of the original chapel features which had been hidden for the past 35 years, such as one of the arched windows going up the stairs and exposing the A-frames in the ceilings upstairs. We have turned it into a comfortable retreat, with stylish decor, underfloor heating in the bathroom and luxury, 100% cotton bed linen and towels. There is also an extensive garden with stunning views across open country side which can be seen through the french windows as soon as you step through the front door.
