Churchyard cottage is uniquely situated at the convergence of the county borders of Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire in the Vale of the White Horse. The cottage is privately set at the top of a very quiet street next to the impressive St Mary the Virgin Church located in the charming village of Ashbury.
It is the ultimate romantic (couples) getaway with direct access to some of the most beautiful walks on the famous historic Ridgeway. Making your stay ideal for scenic country strolls to heritage sites and tantalising your taste buds with local produce at neighbouring gastro pubs. And if you are bringing your 4-legged friend(s) it’s a dog’s paradise!
The cottage is set within easy walking or travelling distance to some of the country’s most popular heritage sights and attractions – such as White Horse Hill, Wayland’s Smithy, Stone Henge, Roman Baths in Bath, The Cotswold’s, the City of Oxford and more…
Its privacy, seclusion and superb location are so necessary for the perfect romantic break and are ideally offset by the closeness of facilities in and around the village of Ashbury. Fantastic Public House – The Rose & Crown is just a stone’s throw away from the cottage and has been reviewed highly by many of our previous guests. Sleeps 2.

Liked: Check-in, location
The cottage needs some TLC as it’s pretty dark and lacks the basic things required for a stay. No freezer in the fridgeLack of crockery in the kitchenLack of instructions for the worktop which I used one day but then it would not heat up the morning we left and I am used to these types of induction platesNo dishcloth providedThe leg fell off the bath A safety mat ought to be provided for the bath The sofa is very uncomfortable It would be very cold in Winter

Wonderful stay in lovely countryside
had a lovely stay in this cottage it is easy to get to has a great friendly pub on doorstep and a path out your front door that leads to the ridgeway for any walks you fancy would highly recommend
Superb weekend away, we loved the cottage and the location. Many fantastic walks direct from the door and the pub which is literally a 2 minute walk serves amazing food
This was perfect for us. The house is absolutely right for a long weekend for a couple in the countryside. It’s got everything we needed and is in a wonderful location, close to country walks pub. Check in was very easy. Communication was excellent.
This is a lovely cottage, perfect for two people and a romantic getaway. The decor is lovely and the location perfect. The pub in the village is lovely and does great food.
Perfect for walking along the Ridgeway which is just at the top of the hill.
Perfect!
Beautiful area with good proximity to interesting sights.had 4 days with great walks on the Ridgeway and local parkland.
Good pubs nearby. Slight lack of nearby food shops with local produce.
What a lovely cottage just up the road from the Rose and Crown pub. The cottage was spotless, had everything we needed and was very peaceful with a delightful small front garden in front of the church. Our two dogs enjoyed the walk up past the church and onto the Ridgeway and we would recommend the Rose & Crown, White Horse and the Royal Oak. Would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing stay.
We enjoyed the lovely cottage the second time, probably not the last stay.
We loved the walks, the landscape is amazing, the people around very friendly.
Thank you very much.
Wonderful cozy comfortable romantic cottage in a beautiful position in a charming village. Excellent dog walking on the doorstep and a great pub 1 minute walk. What's not to love.

Five stars again!! A wonderful second stay!
This cottage really is very special indeed. So many lovely touches too with milk and butter waiting in the fridge.
There are so many gorgeous features and we will most definitely be counting the days until we can return for a third time.
Thank you!

Gem of a cottage
Only a stay a Churchyard Cottage can do it justice. Whilst the pictures and descriptions are spot on, the atmosphere has to be experienced. You don't need to venture out to have truly relaxing time here, but if you do, the immediate area is lovely (take an OS map to really explore) and the local pubs are great. Ideally situated to go further afield as well. Faultless!
Lovely hot water, great location, thoroughly enjoyed our stay with great bath and shower.
Had a few issues with the key safe and front door lock. The woodburner needs some heatproof gauntlets for safety as hubbie got a nasty burn (Screwfix welding gloves would be perfect).
This is my third rental of this property(2nd interrupted by COVID). I just love the quiet location and the lovely ladies that run it. We took a lovely walk on the Ridgeline. With the church in the backyard you hear church bells and doves and that is all. Very nice outside laundry to get our travel clothes quickly washed and I enjoy sitting on the little table in front with a glass of wine watching the sun go down.
