We enjoy a a rural and peaceful setting in the hamlet of Foulounoux. We are sorry we have no reviews but we are starting to let from this summer, if in doubt please do make contact and we shall try to help.
Our house is of traditional construction, the wonky floors and imperfections are what make us love it. The large kitchen table is a superb place to put the world to rights and should we get a wet day (obviously rare in the Charente) the English satellite TV and Wifi are a great asset - especially with the children. The views across the Vienne valley are a delight and the cattle will often stick their noses into the garden. River walks are easy in both directions and canoeing is available within a 1 Km. The stone above the door in the rear section suggests it dates from 1640. We do not let it to large numbers of people but you will find there is plenty of space to enjoy and no need to be under each others feet.
We have central heating on the ground floor and hot water also comes from the combi boiler. It can be chilly upstairs in the winter and whilst we often go we have generally not let at that time for that reason. You are welcome to use our garden furniture and BBQ. Is it swish and modern like a hotel - No and if that is what you want it is not for you. Is it charming , comfortable and cozy and an ideal place to relax and have fun - we believe so and we hope that you would as well.
We have 3 children aged 15, 11 and 10 and the location has worked well for us for some 10 years and we always find something for all. We have also travelled with Grand parents and they love it too.
Now we have undertaken the essential repairs to make it comfortable we wish to share our house to cover some bills. We find our visits to France a wonderful opportunity to have family based down time which is often difficult to squeeze in at home. The French life style has become part of our year that we all look forward to. Whilst we live in the UK we are lucky enough to have a number of Charente based friends and helpers and so we can usually resolve any problems relatively quickly. We have only allowed friends to travel before so are new to this but will do our very best to help.
So what can you do nearby? - where to start! Foulounoux is on the edge of the Charenete and in reality we adjoin the Limousin National Park. The nearest town is Chabanais which is a 20 to 30 minute walk (down a tree lined path) or 5 minute drive. It has a number of places to eat and a good supermarket. It is not smart but it is authentic. The area is chilled and rural and remains relatively inexpensive (compared with the UK) despite the weak pound. My father loves it because it feels like going back in town - in a good way. Ball games (and sheep) in the road remain part of daily life.
The children love the lake beaches and their are at least 3 within 20 minutes. Water sports are available at the Base Nautique Verneuil. We have also enjoyed the Velo rail, Adventure Park and the Monkey Park all within easy striking distance. There are a number of swimming pools our favorites being Confelons and Nautillis at Angouleme.
The Castles at Rouchechaurt and La Rochefoucauld are worth a look as is Oradour Sur Glane. A little further is Grotte de Villiers - worth the journey in our view the cave drawings are something else. This is but a taster but would not want people to lose interest by adding to much more here!
Apologies for some of the photographs, I had to use what I had until I next travel!
