Stone character cottage, capacity 8 people + a baby in 4 bedrooms with 4 shower rooms. Free WIFI.

Located in the heart of 'The Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park' L'Hirondelle enjoys an ideal location for exploring the beautiful and varied attractions of the Haute Vienne, Dordogne and Charente. Activities: walking, cycling, bird watching, golf, horse riding and fishing, boating and many nearby lakes swimming - and just relax!
Inside, the ground floor there is a large lounge / dining room without wall with exposed beams.

A window-door opens onto the terrace or views of the surrounding countryside are fabulous for every season of the year, with rolling hills, fields, and woods.

There is also a toilet.

In one corner there is a well equipped kitchen, where you can watch the garden and fields.

There is plenty of closet and good lighting and a full range of kitchen utensils.

The tiles are easy to clean. All cleaning products and equipment are provided.

On the first floor are 4 large bedrooms: -2 king doubles and 2 with twin single beds, all with en-suite showers & toilets. Included are bed linens and bath towels.

Lovely Home, Lovely Owners, Nice Hikes & Great WIFI

The two of us and our dog stayed one week at this lovely home, right after travel restrictions for CoronaVirus were lifted. A family would find this gite a perfect place to stay as it is quite large with bathrooms in all 4 bedrooms! Plus the British owners, Gail & Chris, are lovely, attentive to your needs and available if you have questions. And in the time of CoronaVirus were respectful of social distancing and hygiene requirements. Crazy we all have to think about that now! Our goal was to find a safe feeling, peaceful nature setting where I could do daily hikes with our dog and my husband could continue working remotely. The owner knew the speed of their internet upon request and it was strong enough to support a work day full of Zoom Video calls at the same time as video streaming. Since I had expressed interest in hiking in the area, the owners had hike trail literature ready upon our arrival. We hiked the trails right in St. Mathieu as well as a couple of the other routes in cities near by. Hiking brochures and trail markings were great on all the trails. The house was perfect for our needs. Clean house throughout, full-kitchen that was well-stocked with all the equipment you need to cook and eat, plenty of lounge around seating, lovely dining table right in front of french doors leading out to an enclosed private backyard (great for a dog). Just a note for dog owners: dogs are allowed to stay in the home, but they are not allowed upstairs or on the furniture. We had a lovely time and would definitely recommend staying in this pretty gite situated amongst farmland and lovely shaded hiking trails.

Superbe gîte

Le gîte est conforme à l’annonce. Il est très spacieux. Nous étions 4 adultes et 4 enfants de 4 à 10 ans, et chacun avait son espace. Le plus: chaque chambre a sa salle de bains avec toilettes. Gail a été adorable dans nos échanges malgré le fait que nous n’ayons pas pu nous voir lors de notre venue. Son amie qui nous a accueillis a été charmante aussi. Et mention spéciale pour la voisine qui nous a gentiment prêté son barbecue car celui du gîte n’était pas disponible lors de notre séjour. La proximité d’un lac avec plage et possibilité de baignade a été très appréciable. En bref, un séjour au top! A conseiller.

Endroit très au calme

Location très agréable avec ses 4 chambres avec salle de bain et WC accolés, sa grande pièce à vivre et sa terrasse. Loisirs : pistes de randonnées très proches et petit lac à 5 kms. Beaucoup de châteaux et de villages typiques à découvrir... Il nous a manqué juste le soleil pour que ce soit bien.

Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt in diesem schönen Haus von Gail und Chris. Alles war so, wie es beschrieben uns auf den Fotos zu sehen ist. Im abgeschlossenen Garten (sehr gut für die Hunde!) konnte man den ganzen Tag die Sonne genießen. Ein wunderbarerer Ort der Ruhe und sehr geeignet zum Entspannen.

La maison est vraiment au calme. Mais aussi ultra fonctionnelle, tout en étant agréablement agencée. Le jardin permet de profiter de jeux en extérieur et d'un barbecue le midi ou le soir. Le cadre est idéal pour décompresser et se reposer, en famille ou entre amis. Les propriétaires répondent toujours présents aux diverses sollicitations.

La maison est exactement comme sur la description et les photos, elle est spacieuse, il y a une salle de bain par chambre avec toilette cela évite de déranger les autres la nuit. Les propriétaires, accueillants, vivent à côté pratique, nous avons même du leur emprunter des couteaux pour ouvrir des huîtres. Nous avons pu passer un excellent weekend.

A mon arrive a L’Hirondelle j’ai etais acceuilli sincerement chalereusement par les hotes ce qui devient rare dans le monde commercial de nos jours. Je suis reste une semaine ameliorant mes talents de guitariste avec Chris, le sans aucun doute le maitre des cours de guitare. Les repas presentes par Gail et Chris etaient les meilleures exemples de cuisine « maison » que j’ai goute depuis un certain nombres d’annees. En ce qui me concerne ces personnes fantastiques ont le meilleur « Bed and Breakfast » en France. Bravo pour eux et j’ai l’intention de revenir visiter dans le futur proche. Upon my arrival at L’Hirondelle I was greeted by the hosts with a sincere warmth that is becoming quite rare in the modern commercial world in which we live. I stayed for a week improving my guitar skills with Chris the undoubted master of guitar tuition. The meals presented by Gail and Chris were some of the best examples of home cooked cuisine I have tasted in many a year. As far as I am concerned these fantastic people have set the bench mark for Bed and Breakfast accommodation in France. Well done to them and I intend to visit again in the not too distant future.

Why they chose this property

Located in the heart of 'Le Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin', L'Hirondelle is ideally situated to explore the beautiful and varied attractions of the Haute-Vienne, Dordogne and Charente departments. Activities include walking, cycling, bird watching, golf, horse riding, or fishing, relaxing, boating and swimming at the many nearby lakes. St Mathieu Lake is just 5 kms away. Rochechouart with its medieval chateau and good selection of restaurants is a 20 minute drive.

The gîte is only 2 kms from the pretty village of St Mathieu with a petrol station, bank, post office, 2 bakers, bars,restaurant, newsagent and a well stocked supermarket. During peak summer months, the village hosts lively night markets with BBQ and live music.
