Large house with interconnecting gite (sleeps upto 14), on banks of Dordogne in Bergerac SW France with large pool and 3 acres of garden. Rates cover House and Gite combined. No other guests on property during your stay
14th century house with all modern conveniences. Ideal for all age groups. One bedroom has disabled access and facilities.
Bicycles provided, Wifi, TV (UK and French), snooker, table football, gym equipment (adults only)
Surrounding area has water parks, go-karting, chateaux, vineyards and superb restaurants. Ideally placed for visits west to St Emilion, Bordeaux and east to Sarlat and Rocamadour.
Bergerac centre is 15 minutes by bike along river path accessed from the garden. Changeover day is normally Saturday.....other days by agreement
Bergerac airport (15 minutes by taxi) is served by Ryanair and Easyjet and other airlines.

Spacious villa in excellent location

We spent an excellent week, catching up with "old" university friends. The property is very spacious and full of character.The close proximity to Bergerac was a big plus, as it is a lovely, short bike ride away, along the river Dordogne; many bikes are available at the villa. Bob was very welcoming and responsive.

Fantastic house at great location

We had a wonderful time with a party of 3 families. Great that the house is so large. Due to the thick walls it stayed cool inside even though we had several hot days. Highly recommended!

Fantastic family holiday

Beautiful spacious house, exceeded our expectations. So well equipped for all needs. Lovely kitchen, perfect for family meals. Great pool and sun loungers. Loved playing pool, table tennis to reconnect with grown up kids.

Three Generations at Franchemont

Our flight arrived at 9am. Bob kindly let us leave our luggage in the hall while the property was being prepared - very helpful. When we returned at the agreed time, Bob and Heather were most welcoming. After a swim were given a useful guided tour of the lovely house which was more than impressive. Having the ground floor bedroom was very useful as my wife has mobility issues and cannot manage stairs. We made use of both sitting rooms and kitchens which allowed us all plenty of space but with the facility to have bases for our various family groups. The wonderful pool was the main focus for the younger members, who also enjoyed the pool table and table football. Bergerac, a lovely town, was a popular evening venue for sightseeing and eating out, although we did visit local restaurants and village food festivals as well. The house itself was packed with character and was a fascinating place to enjoy being based for a fortnight. The bicycles provided were used by some many times for trips to local shops and for rides along the river. Some of our group arranged for a morning’s canoeing on the Dordoigne which they really enjoyed. In the event of any queries or problems Bob was always easy to contact and was very prompt to assist in sorting things out. All in all it was a very relaxing holiday, and a wonderful place to assemble the extended family to spend quality time together.

We (Bob and Heather) are retired Londoners who have always loved the French way of life. The house is our holiday home. We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of France. We will be here to welcome you (we do not use any agencies) and explain all aspects of the house and the local area.

Why they chose this property

The house is unique. It was an armoury during the 100 years war (14th century). It has been modernised but retains the history and grandeur. The facilities including the large pool allowing a truly relaxing holiday with many attractions in the surrounding areas.
The west wing of the house can be separated off from the main part of the house by closing the two interconnecting doors - we call this the Gite. The rental rates shown include the whole property including the Gite.

What makes this property unique

The sitting room has an enormous open fireplace with 'minstrels gallery' above it. Every room has real character and yet the house has all the modern luxuries you would want. There is space for all age groups to enjoy there own form of holiday. In the hot summer months the thick stone walls keep the house delightfully cool. In cooler times we have a massive central fireplace and a log burner. The house has hosted many parties and notably a '20s themed murder mystery event at New Year.
