BOHUSLÄN SEA LODGE
Secluded island retreat • Panoramic ocean views • Private boathouse on the marina • Sauna by the sea • Fully equipped modern house • 35 min from Gothenburg
Welcome to Bohuslän Sea Lodge, a peaceful seaside retreat in the Swedish west coast archipelago, just 35 minutes north of Gothenburg and close to the famous sailing resort Marstrand. The house is located on the small island Lilla Fjellsholmen, connected to the mainland by a short bridge, offering the rare combination of island tranquility and easy access by car.
From almost every room you enjoy panoramic ocean views and complete silence — no traffic, no background noise, only the sea and the wind. It is the perfect place to relax with family or friends, enjoy long dinners with a sea view, and explore the beautiful Bohuslän archipelago and coastal landscape, with excellent hiking opportunities along the rocky shoreline.
Guests also have access to a private boathouse on the marina dock, a perfect place to relax by the water, enjoy coffee with a sea view or prepare for swimming, boating and crab fishing. On the same dock you will find the shared sauna, which can be reserved for private use — a wonderful place to enjoy a traditional Nordic sauna and watch the sunset over the sea.
THE HOUSE
The house was built in 2018 and offers about 108 m² of living space on two levels, designed to make the most of the surrounding sea views. The main floor features a bright open living area with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable seating, all facing the ocean. Large windows and doors open onto spacious terraces in several directions, providing plenty of outdoor space for dining, relaxing or simply enjoying the view.
Upstairs there is a second lounge with a reading chair and panoramic sea views, creating a quiet corner to relax with a book while looking out over the archipelago. The house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and together with two additional beds located in the open upstairs lounge, it comfortably accommodates up to six guests.
The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, ideal for guests who enjoy cooking and long dinners together. Outside you will find two Weber grills (gas and charcoal) and generous outdoor seating areas. Inside the house there is also a piano, books, board games, toys and music instruments for relaxed evenings or rainy days.
ISLAND LIFE AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Life on the island is relaxed and close to nature. Guests can swim from the docks, enjoy the small sandy beach for younger children, or try the classic Bohuslän pastime of crab fishing from the rocks and piers.
For exploring the archipelago from the water, one kayak and one stand-up paddleboard (SUP) can be rented directly at the house. Just a few minutes away there is also a kayak rental offering additional kayaks and equipment, making it easy for groups to explore the nearby islands together.
The area is also excellent for hiking. Several beautiful coastal trails are nearby, including a scenic walk to a hilltop viewpoint about 45 minutes each way, offering stunning views across the archipelago and open sea.
A PEACEFUL AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY ISLAND
The island itself is small, peaceful and very family friendly. There are two marina areas, green spaces for play and relaxation, a playground, and several places along the shoreline where you can sit, swim or simply enjoy the view. A walking path circles the island, making it easy to explore the rocky coastline and discover quiet spots along the water.
Children often spend hours exploring the island, climbing on the rocks, fishing for crabs from the docks or playing along the small sandy beach. Since car traffic on the island is very limited, the atmosphere is calm and relaxed, making it a safe and enjoyable place for children to move around freely. With a bit of luck you may even spot seals swimming around the island, sometimes visible from the house or shoreline.
EASY ACCESS AND NEARBY DESTINATIONS
Although the island feels peaceful and secluded, it is easy to reach and well located for exploring the region. The island is connected to the mainland by a short bridge, making it simple to arrive by car while still enjoying the atmosphere of island life.
The house offers two private parking spaces, including one with an EV charger, and a private boat mooring at the marina. Everyday services and a grocery store are nearby, and the modern Kongahälla Center shopping mall in Kungälv, about 20 minutes away, offers restaurants, cafés, shops and other services.
The restaurants, cafés and harbor life of Marstrand can be reached easily by car, while the beautiful Tofta Nature Reserve, only 15 minutes away, offers spectacular coastal hiking and classic Bohuslän landscapes.
The city of Gothenburg, with attractions such as Liseberg amusement park, museums, shopping and a vibrant restaurant scene, can be reached in about 35 minutes.
A YEAR-ROUND ARCHIPELAGO ESCAPE
Whether you visit during the warm summer months for swimming and island life, or in spring, autumn or winter for quiet nature, dramatic sea views and cozy evenings indoors, Bohuslän Sea Lodge offers a unique way to experience the Swedish west coast.
For guests combining travel with work, the house also offers two workstations with comfortable office chairs, a printer, and high-speed fiber internet, making it easy to work remotely while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
During the colder months (October–March) guests may also use the fireplace for cozy evenings. Guests who wish to use the fireplace should bring their own firewood.
Please note that there is also a small guest house and an outdoor tub on the property. These are not operational and are not included in the rental.
