About this property
Self catering Balcón del Camino Viejo for 20 people
Balcón del Camino Viejo is a rural accommodation situated in the countryside, close to the Portuguese border, which is 8km away, and set in a Birdlife Sanctuary on the International Tajo Nature Reserve.
The accommodation is 800 m from the village, the restaurant, church etc. It is very well accessed along a peaceful and tarmac road.
Our accommodation is surrounded by 4000 square metres of private land and has two floors:
A ground floor plus a loft which have been recently renovated.
The first thing that attracts guests is that it is very comfortable because of its large size and it offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.
There are two floors, with the ground floor mainly in stonework and woodwork from the area.
The loft area has been specially designed and is equipped for the use and enjoyment of the younger members of the family: video, TV, board games, toys, etc.
The ground floor is open spaced and therefore, the kitchen, dining room and lounge share the same large area, leading out onto a porch, where you can enjoy a lovely breakfast with typical local products and
cakes, while you relax in the peace and quiet of the surrounding farmlands.
The decoration combines the typical rustic features of the area, with farm tools: a trough, ancient bench, hay forks, etc.
The fireplace that heats this floor is Portuguese, and creates a delightful experience to read a good book while it is raining outside and you watch the burning fire.
The surrounding piece of land forms the cherry on the cake, with 4000 square metres of fruit trees, oak trees, aromatic plants and broom bushes, with a barbecue and swimming pool where you can cool off on those hot summer days.
Our accommodation has air conditioning and a heater in every room, plus a fully equipped kitchen.
The lounge-dining room, porch and kitchen share the same area and from the porch you can admire some lovely views.
For those keen on nature, this is a wonderful area because it has its own special microclimate, making it the ideal place to visit all year round.
The spring is, par excellence, the favourite time of year for botanists and birdwatchers alike because of the wide variety of plants and birdlife, although there are species that stay here all year round.
The area enjoys a climate which is between an Atlantic and Mediterranean influence, which makes it a highly protected area given that it is the International Tajo Nature Reserve. Today, you can still see otters, cranes, eagles, vultures, black storks, the eagle owl, as well as tree species such as the chestnut, hundred-year-old olive trees, oak trees, fields with holm oaks and large areas of cork oak, as this is one of the most important areas for the collection of cork.
The beauty of the nearby town of Valencia de Alcántara with its Jewish quarters, castle, synagogue, dolmen area, Roman ruins, hiking routes between Spain and Portugal, as well as the magnificent all year round microclimate, the rich and varied gastronomy, and above all, the peace and quiet offered by this accommodation are more than enough reasons to visit us.
