Great property situated a stones throw from Hadrians wall.
The cottage was spotlessly clean and contained everything you could need.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to spend time in the area..
The owners were very helpful via email about my arrival and the propetwas not only as described but in a fantastic location opposite the Roman Army Museum. It was a really convenient place to start and my walk along a section of the wall. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay thank you Ali and James.

Thank you so much John, it was our absolute pleasure. We hope to see you again!
We had a lovely stay at the Aquila Cottage. Communication with Alison and James was very smooth, the cottage very clean and plenty of information of the area to be found in the cottage if you might be looking for activities to do.
A very comfortable bed and nice sofa to watch some tv in the evening (we were following the Olympics a bit). All appliances in the kitchen worked perfectly and everything that we needed was at hand in the cottage. Definitely recommend!

The cottage is a short walk from Hadrian's wall and we walked a section of it (about 9 miles) then took a public bus back. The bus stopped right outside the cottage door!
The cottage itself was newly refurbished, clean and with modern appliances. The owner was friendly and helpful.
The property lived up to all our expectations. Lovely facilities, beautifully clean and everything we needed for our few days. Our hosts were great. The local hedgehogs which visited each evening were an added fascination. The situation in Northumberland so close to Hadrians Wall was perfect for us to go walking and explore the Roman history of the area. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely stay at this property which was easy to find. The hosts had left us some delicous scones which was a nice touch. The Property was spotlessly clean throughout. The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of room to relax. There is a smart TV, WiFi and Alexa. Upstairs there is a fabulous shower and a double bedroom.
The property is opposite the Roman Army museum which is great place to visit when it's raining. We also had a lovely meal at the Greenhead Hotel (we did book in advance) which is only a short drive away.

Disappointed with property. Not luxury. Not well equipped.

Dear Angela,
We're pleased that you enjoyed our beautiful location but sorry to hear you were disappointed with our property. This is very unusual for us, as we do our best to manage expectation by ensuring our listing accurately reflects the property and its facilities, which is borne out by the number of positive reviews to that effect. Indeed, we believe that yours is the only review that we have had that has commented negatively upon the facilities provided.
We understand that the word luxury is subjective and therefore a matter of opinion. However the facts regarding our facilities are that the cottage contains a modern, state of the art, smart tv, blueray player, echo smart assistant, washer/dryer, dishwasher and an extra large rainfall shower with a seat, which many of our guests comment upon regarding how luxurious it is.
These facilities are not what one might expect to find in a basic holiday cottage. The cottage has all of these facilities as well as the more general cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, cooking utentils and linens. We are therefore slightly puzzled. The only item we can think of, which we had to remove is a caffetiere. Unfortunately guests were rinsing coffee grinds down the sink, which was causing problems with the operation of our septic tank. However, in an effort to address this, we do provide high quality filter coffee bags in the cottage, and do also provide a caffetiere upon request. Whilst we appreciate constructive feedback, if there was something you felt was missing, it would have been helpful if you had told us so that we could've/could address this. As it stands we're still none the wiser as your review doesn't say.
We, ourselves, were also disappointed. You left 2 days early, without letting us know, when instructions for checking out are clearly stated in the house manual. This left us in a vulnerable position regarding our insurance, which has specific conditions that we must adhere to when the property is unoccupied. We were also very concerned to discover that your husband was about to tamper with the door lock, despite information regarding its operation, once again being included in the house manual. This could have very easily resulted in a costly locksmiths callout had we not intervened.
Whilst we always like to see returning guests, many of whom have become friends, we think its fair to say that we are not what either would chose for a future booking.
We wish you well.
The accommodation was clean, uncluttered, comfortable, quiet, in a beautiful setting with lovely expansive views of farmland and hills on one side and looking to a small wood and lots of interesting bird life on the other side. Perfect as an excellent quality base for walking sections of Hadrian's Wall and exploring the local area. In fact being able to access the wall in 2 minutes walk from the accommodation, as well as the Walltown Country Park for night sky viewing was beyond our wildest expectations. The local bus, stopping at points along the wall, was excellent meaning we could plan A to B walks along the wall and not have to use the car at all, was fantastic - expecially as the bus stop was so close. Fantastic stay all round.

Thanks for the lovely review Abigail. We're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that everything was as expected, or in some cases even better! We really are spoilt here, and stargazing in the winter months particularly, is breathtaking, especially if you're lucky enough to get a clear night.
Lovely cozy, clean and well designed property, great shower and facilities. Just a short walk on to the Roman wall, 20mins walk to Greenhead Hotel for a really good meal, take a torch if you come back in the dark!
We greatly enjoyed our stay in early September. The cottage was warm, inviting and spotless. Our hosts were helpful with advice about local shops and restaurants. The location by Hadrian's Wall meant we were able to have walks without the long drive beforehand.
The shower was lovely.
All in all, we were very happy with our stay.
